It's the voice. Listening to Garrus talk is like...

Okay, I'll stop there because what I was about to say was wildly inappropriate. ;)

Actually he does. He's just more subtle about it.

"You can change your pants in a moment" and "dance crazy" come to mind. But yeah, Garrus is far more vocal and his snark is priceless.

Well, yeah, you didn't know? Quite a number of the Thane 'mancers were former Garrus fangirls who jumped
ship. XD I don't "get" the attraction, but whatever floats peoples' boats I guess. :P

That's not fair and you know it. I can't stand this "US AND THEM" attitude some fans have. A lot of people love both of them. They're very different characters.

Er...what does being "fair or unfair" have to do with this? No need to be sensitive over it.  The truth is you have quite a number of individuals who DID jump ship for Thane.  I've read far too many posts from people who've admitted that to even begin believing otherwise...especially when they are the ones who've said it. :)

We have Garrus and Thane is hardly a "threat" to the romance.  While Thane's alright in my book, I don't find him particularly attractive in any capacity...I have a right to that opinion just as others have the right to not be attracted to Garrus (or to be attracted to both).  That doesn't necessitate an "us vs them" outlook, certainly when Thane isn't a threat, it just means people have different opinions (and those of like-opinions tend to enjoy sharing them with each other). :)

Honestly, and this is 100% opinion here, I think Garrus definitely didn't find Shepard physically attractive at first.  He says he doesn't have a fetish for humans, he says he's never considered cross-species intercourse (Not even asari, Garrus? Really? Wow.)  and I believe him.

But he finds her attractive as a person, and I think that can lead to an eventual physical attraction.  I'm sort of basing this on my own experience here:  When I was playing ME1, I didn't see Garrus and immediately throw down my controller and yell, "HAWT.  GONNA HIT THAT LIKE A TON OF BRICKS!"  I gradually found myself looking forward to his conversations
more and more, until one time (I remember it quite clearly [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/love.png[/smilie]) I came back from a mission, hoping for some new Garrus dialogue to unlock, "Hope Garrus has something new to say, Whoo-hoo! He does!" Pause, reflect: "Man, I sure like listening to him tal-OH MY GOD, I'M IN LOVE WITH HIM, AREN'T I?!" [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/andy.png[/smilie] Called my friends, confessions were made, weird looks were recieved, support groups were had...and I eventually came to accept it. As the game went on, I started finding certain things about him physically attractive, and then those same traits in other turians.

My point is, I think physical attraction to Shepard is something that's not particularly prominent in the beginnings of the relationship, but I have a feeling that it's gonna (or already has) snowball into physical attraction.

Just the way I see it.

Wow, yeah, that's pretty much how it happened for me. :P Well...there weren't any support groups, I just kind of accepted that he was an incredibly attractive character on a number of levels.  I haven't looked back since. XD And I agree, I don't think Garrus was physically attracted to Shepard in the beginning, but he was more drawn to her as a person.  I think by the time the love scene comes around, Garrus has found some level of physical attraction for her. :P

I totally agree on this. Thane is absolutely amazing as far as character depth and design goes, and if you bring him on Samara's recruitement mission he sassed Shepard so I'm quite sure he sits on some calm and collected sense of humor, heh. Having both Thane and Garrus in the party is such a luxury and I love Bioware for giving me these two malien hunks to drag around on dangerous missions.

I think you can get that "not attracted in the beginning" vibe because he was not intended as LI in ME1, so the writers had to figure out how to jump from  gender neutral Garrus to LI. They did it pretty good actually, but IMO there is no problem in turians/humans attraction seeing how Turians "like"  Asari.  And romance without physical attraction is just friendship, so if he is LI he is sexually atracted. that's my logic, but I can't be sure of course.

Oh, I agree wholeheartedly.  The relationship builds up very well and by the time you get to the romance he's attracted to Shepard on a physical level. ("And your waist is...very supportive." XD)  You can't get to that point and not have some level of physical attraction (and like you mentioned, it would just be a close friendship if that were the case).

The best thing about his romance is that he behaves awkwardly. You could expect something like that from someone like Garrus, he doesn't look like the type of Turians that get's all the Turian females. Another thing that might make things like this is the fact that he's Turian and Turians are very disciplined, they basically spend all their lives being disciplined, I bet romances aren't easy things for Turians.

Thane is being humorous when he tells Mouse he can change his pants later? I didn't know that was physically possible, I thought he was being serious. XD

Romance: with humans, yes, he's definitely awkward.  Getting turian tail? Garrus has that covered. XD

WHAT DOES HE SAY?? I MUST HEAR THIS THANE-SASS!!! Seriously, at times I think that guy is more serious than . . . someone really serious. DAMN MY LACK OF APPROPRIATE METAPHOR!!

Also: I think Garrus totally gets all the Turian women he wants. I mean, he's the most badass guy in pretty much any room he walks into, and Turians are a warrior society. Their females would be ALL OVER that. Not to mention he sounds much more suave and experienced in ME2, as he's showing more of his own personality.

But why have we still not seen these mythical Turian women? Are they invisible???????? :(

And I just recruited Garrus on my second playthrough. I believe Joker's line when you ask him about that missions is my favorite in the entire game. "ALL RIGHT, Commander, Garrus is back! Which is awesome, cause he was totally my favorite! Huge pole up his ass. . . "

I have to stop playing to laugh every time I hear it. And I just feel like there's some kind of /backstory/, there. Like Joker tried to get Garrus drunk once and epically failed, or Garrus got pissed at him when Joker played some kind of prank on him.

I don't know about that, seems to me like he'd get nervous with any kind of romance which makes me like him even more. I think the same thing would happen to me.

Umm no way, Garrus is not nervous when it come to sex with his own species at all. Several lines prove this. When you're manshep, if you call him ugly when he asks about his scar he says that he was always the one the women were hitting on and now that he's got the scar maybe manshep will finally have a chance.

Secondly when romancing him it's kind of obvious that the tiebreaker with his fellow turian was sex, not sparring. Garrus is not akward around the ladies at all, it's only femshep who makes him nervous because he respects and admires her so much that he doesn't want to accidently do or say something that lessens her respect and/or trust in him.

The developers seem to be implying that Garrus is as confident with the ladies of his species as he is with his sniping skills.

Didn't you hear his "Reach and Flexibility" story? That totally ended "and then I hit that good." (Paraphrased for ease.) So there is one in-game instance of Garrus having hot, casual sex with a female Turian he had just spent over an hour beating up (and being beaten up by). That sounds pretty smooth to me.

It just doesn't feel right romancing Kaiden though...I really can't think of him that way  - he's too...too...not Garrus.

This. Although change Kaidan to 'any other LI'. Totally this. xD

Garrus sassed way better in the Samara mission, Thane was just replying to him. No offense to Thane. ;)

On another and slightly more disturbing subject... Because of the ties to avians and the fact that Garrus was all about a supportive waist, am I the only one that thinks Turian women are all round or barrel shaped? rofl.

Garrus is totally badass in ME2. My femshep ****ed his brains out Image IPB. I always have Garrus in my squad. Him sniping + tungsten ammo = pwnage.

I LOVE THAT LINE!!!! I've only seen it in YouTube videos, but I'm uber-excited to experience it in the game for myself when I do my playthrough as a manShep (gotta romance Jack; she CRIES!).

I'm really hoping there are a few other lines like that between manShep and Garrus. All bro-y and blustery and such.

While Garrus simply saying that doesn't conclusively make it so (he could be pulling it out of his ass, or actually teasing Shepard because women all always throwing themselves at Shep). But even making the joke shows a rather high level of confidence. Personally, I wouldn't be surprised if it were true. His charms sure work on Kelly.

I guess I was wrong then, I did hear the whole thing about that. When I first heard it I thought it was going to end with him having sex but then I thought he didn't. I see now that it's only with Female Shepard, it still makes the romance interesting. Next time I guess I'll have to think in a dirtier way.

The sex dripping from his voice is at least 10x stronger than usual by the end of that story!! And "more than one way to work off stress." The second way is sex, lol.

I don't understand why the different LI fans can't just get along. I appreciated Thane's romance, it was really touching, and I don't really have any interest in Jacob, but those who do, all the more power to them. As for Kaidan, I was firmly in the "Kaidan or bust" camp until I played ME2, but I still love his character and Raphael Sbarge is still my #1 voice actor.

Can't we all be friends? :(

I've perused other threads, and it seems like people from all parties seem to feel threatened by those who aren't in their 'club,' so to speak. Like they think that someone loving Garrus more than Kaidan/Thane/Jacob is somehow a threat to their own playstyle choices. I don't get it.

Same. Sure, there was that one incident before the game was released where some people on this board were accidentally dragged into an argument that developed with a couple of Samara fans after it was revealed that Garrus was the final LI in the game - but other than that things have been surprisingly cordial between the different groups. Or at least, fairly cordial compared to how I'm used to seeing fans of different characters react around one another. *shudders as she thinks back on some of the anime fandoms she's been exposed to and just how nasty the fans can get over the characters*
The main posters on this thread have also done a wonderful job of keeping things civil for the most part. I have yet to see any real animosity towards the other fans here. Maybe a few playful jabs here in there that could be mistaken for attacks, but nothing like a whole page of just 'zomg so-and-so character stinks and so does his/her fans!!111 lolz!111 *insert caps and emoticon abuse here*'.

I still love Kaidan. I've said repeatedly that his meanness to Shepard makes me like his character all the more. One of my Shepards will stay romance-free in ME2 to wait for him.

I also like Thane. I think most people here like Thane's character. I'm trying out that romance, too.

I believe we /are/ all friends. It's not like we sit in here cursing Thane's name and bashing people who dare to be attracted to Kaidan. (Personally, I would hit that all day, every day. Just saying.)

I really don't understand the attraction to Jacob, though. I flirted with him a bit, but then I was like, "Meh, no personality." He is very pretty, though. Maybe I could have a Shepard do a shallow rebound from Kaidan with him, then drop him like a hot potato when Kaidan shows back up.

"Shepard, did you sleep with a Cerberus operative?"
". . . I was lonely. And sad. His abs reminded me of you."

As long as we're not being friendly with Jacob or Miranda fans. :pinched:
Nah, just kidding.

I myself have got no problem with fans of a particular LI. I did like Kaidan (though I loved Garrus) and I enjoyed the Ashley romance for the simple fact that you got to throw her belief in God in her face. And LIara made me laugh with the cliche 'it's more than just sex' line.

And Thane's romance seems to have a nice intense emotion to it, Tali's is uber cute, and Jack's seems... I dunno. I just like the fact that she seems to realize it would be better for her to be more social and friendly, or something. Jacob and Miranda's romance didn't seem to be anything more than 'you're hot, I'm hot... SEX!!!'... at least from what I've seen. As for Kelly... I haven't really seen anything and don't care to since she's eyed Garrus and so I want to just kick her for that (but I saved her... can't believe it).

BioWare's given us a multitude of LIs this time and I'm happy for the choices we've got (although I find the fact that there's only a female available for a same-sex relationship a bit sexist). And of course I'm entirely happy to have Garrus, who seems to have the best of the romance subplots, at least for me. I like the awkwardness and that final moment of vulnerability. That touched me that most compared to any of the others. Although I've got no gripes with Tali's romance and am totally hooking her up with my male Shepard.

Okay... just to cut this short and get back to what I was getting at... BioWare gave us a bunch of great choices and we should just revel in the fact that we have so many and hope for the best for everyone and their romances in ME3. No need to fight. We can have who we want, no one needs to fight with anyone else about who's better.

Although... maybe now we gotta be careful about fighting over the one we all love. Let's not tear Garrus to shreds. There's enough to go around.
