Garrus Love and Adoration

Greetings, my fellow Garrus fans =)
I must say I really enjoy reading all those pages of Garrus love and discussion. Now let me contribute to the thread by bringing up a question that passed my mind when I read the email from Dr. Michel (you get it some time after recruiting Garrus).
Do you think Garrus has been in a serious relationship before? Something permanent? The way Dr. Michel words it in the mail sounds like he didn't have time for that. I think she writes something like "always so busy with his crusades and grand passions that he focuses on them to the exclusion of everything and everyone else".
Any thoughts?

Damn, did anyone else notice the sheer explosion of GarrusxFemshep fanfiction pieces that popped up over the last few days? It's almost as if someone just hit a switch and now everyone is rushing to write one. Heck, even I'm trying to write one - though the awesomeness that is Garrus is making it near impossible for me to write anything with a serious tone. He and my femshep are just too prone to bantering back in forth good naturedly with one another, and I'm having absolutely no luck in reining them in at the moment. It's very frustrating... o__o

I think he might have attempted to have a few relationships like that in the past, keyword being 'attempted', but he honestly struck me as someone who was unused to being in a longterm and/or meaningful relationship. I'd imagine he's much more used to quick flings to relieve stress than anything else.Honigkuchenpferd87 wrote...

@ Devija: First, that picture with Garrus and your Fem!Shep is adorable. Second: How do you manage to make beautiful people all the time? I must know the secret. As for Jack and Fem!Shep's interaction: I know! My Fem!Shep's heart was crushed when Jack blew her off after burning through her dialogue. She wanted more and was rejected--so she ran off to talk to her BFF Tali to make everything right again.
XD I wish there was a secret I could impart with the wave of a wand.
Anyway, do I think Garrus has ever had romances and relationships? I think he's tried a few times but never had anything of substance for the long-term. He's a dude of action, always on high-risk situations and moving from place to place for training or capturing baddies or doing his vigilante thing (the past two years). So I can see him as having flings and brief romances, but nothing deeper than the likes of what he talked about. Y'know, the convo he had about the female turian he got down with.
Also, I'm rather unsure how turians view relationships and what they entail. They could be very different than what a human expects out of a relationship. But seeing as how the writers pretty much humanized every alien race in ME2 to the point of them being barely unrecognizably different than being humans with masks on, I'm sure it won't be a problem.

Woah, that's a great picture. Poor guy, that missile really did a number on him, hopefully in ME3 his face looks a little less like ground beef.
Is this during the loyalty mission?

'is that what you want?'

Edit: Oh, and new conversations become unlocked whenever you finish a mission (the Cerberus Mission Complete screen). So make sure you talk to everyone after every round, because they don't stack.

Wow...that certainly is something to ponder.
Garrus does strike me as a casual guy as far as relationships pre-Shepard goes. He has yet to speak of any past romances, broken hearts, unrequited feelings, and so on. Perhaps Garrus doesn't have any exes - which, really, would not be surprising. Since the time you met him in Mass Effect 1, he really only talked about work. It seemed like the majority of his life, bringing justice to the galaxy was his passion.
Maybe it still is his one true love. And who better to serve it with than with the galaxy's unsung (by the council, anyway) hero, Shepard?
Hm. That was really cheesy. I really don't know XD
Imagining him with anyone other than Shepard is...difficult. Something I can't say about the other love interests in Mass Effect 1 and 2. I would say that is biased but as far as LIs go, I am quite partial to Tali, Jack, and Ashley (pre-Mu Realy Kaidan, too, I guess) along with Garrus (well, duh).

As a gay man and a man who wants Garrus just as much as you, would you be offended if Garrus ever did have an option for male shep as well? Some girls (most) would prefer to have Garrus be a pure ladies man in their minds. If he ever did have an option for us gay men who love him, would it ruin or tarnish what you have with him?
I ask because Bioware would need to consider this kinda thing too. Many people would object, even if his sexual actions would be decided by either straight people or gays (and he wouldn't be labeled as being either). The 'option' for him to be with us guys would still most likely offend more people than I imagine, though.
I can role a femshep and be happy with loving him that way, so I'm kinda curious if most women would be as accepting of a maleshep option as I am with femshep.

oh heck no (for me). If we women are offered Kelly as a LI as well as the MaleSheps, why not have a Garrus/MaleShep romp as well?
I'm very open to any kind of relationship. The fact that no game has crossed into this realm is a little disheartening. BioWare tried it with the whole Liara thing in ME1 for femsheps, and Kelly was the added hook in ME2, but still couldn't just cross that little line into male/male relationships.
Seems that female/female (or female - like) realationships are the only acceptable 'same-sex' relationships that are gonna be accepted at this time.

seeing that Yaoi amongst anime/video game fangirls are widely accepted (and actually READ and watched by more females than males), I wouldn't see why this would be a bother to that same crowd.

Why would we be offended? Frankly I think it would be wonderful if Garrus was made into an LI that could be pursued by both genders. Everyone deserves a chance to have their desires come true in game, and out of all the LI's currently available I think Garrus would definitely work best as a bisexual romance option. He likes Shepard for who he/she is after all, I don't see why gender would necessarily factor into and muddy that equation.Von Verrikan wrote...

I'd have absolutely no problem with it as long as it was equally as well done as the femshep one. Shepard is Shepard right? Garrus even says that it isn't her body he's attracted to but her personality and force of will.
However, I doubt Bioware is going to retcon Garrus' femshep-only status in ME3, which is a shame for the gay/bi men who wanted to romance him as their own gender. At least he's a possible romance despite his alien qualities and biologcal barriers though.

There isn't a thing I can think of about Garrus that screams he is straight...and it has been pointed out before in his thread that his flirtation lines are rather gender neutral.
I was going to write some shpeel about Zevran from Dragon Age: Origins and how wonderful he turned out to be as a bisexual option but I just noticed something when playing ME2 a short while ago. I never noticed this before, but after calling Garrus up, there are two wine glasses on the coffee table. Even if this appears when you call up any of the love interests, for Garrus this is just particularly hilarious!

I totally got this vibe in ME1. Come on, this guy comes in all superhero and is like, 'I'LL SAVE YOU!'... Uh, who wouldn't fall for him?Madolin wrote...
Honigkuchenpferd87 : I always wondered if Dr. Michel had a huge crush on Garrus, and Garrus was too busy being super turian cop guy, at the time. hmmmm...
As for turians in general not being so into monogamy, look at that one (general?) in love with the consort. He certainly wanted more than sex, so much that it was eating him up inside. I think turians generally have the same ideas about relationships as humans. Some want flings, some want more. I want to imagine Garrus is in the latter group.

Absolutely not. I support and encourage a bisexual Garrus! I actually think most/all Turians are omnisexual. The male Turians we find more often than not ping my gaydar for whatever reason. Plus, Garrus has very subtexty lines in ME1 that he says to Shepard regardless of gender. In ME2, he continues the trend of seeming quite gender-neutral about Shepard and their relationship. He sees her more as a human than a gender. I found that very intriguing.
I think you'd be surprised at how many people support a gay Garrus option. Perhaps it is anomalous to Garrus fans that we're mostly very open to Garrus being something other than strictly hetero.
