Gahh!  I finally caught up on reading the whole thread.  I only joined the forums so I could have a proper place to squee.

I never expected to fall for a turian when, but somehow he grew on me.   I was so sure Garrus had a crush on Shepard in ME1, but I guess I was just projecting my own feelings on him.  The little things I took for as signs of a crush were probably just marks of his respect for Shepard.  That darn respect.  I really hoped he'd become a LI, but I wasn't holding my breath.  Oh I have little faith...  I remember thinking BW was just trolling Garrus fans with Kelly wanting to "hug" him, Dr. Michel stalking him, and a conversation 'bout his sex life on top of it all!  But my all my misgivings turned to giggles when I immediately saw that I could flirt with him.  Thank god I had the place to myself, otherwise my roommate would've been weirded out by my sudden urge to squeal and run around the house.

Of course the romance left me wanting more.  I was kinda afraid it was going down the fwb route, but my remaining doubts have been eased by reading this thread.

I also want to throw in my support for a bi Garrus.  Actually when I couldn't romance him with my femShep in ME1, I thought, 'Ohh, he must be gay.  Neat!' And played through as male to no avail.  Part of me thinks every character should be bi, so that everyone playing can be happy with the LI of their choice.  But then there are the gamers who would be upset by that.  Sigh, and its really not true to life.  Not everyone is willing to swing both ways: Some people identify as plain old straight.

I so hope we get more romance from Garrus in ME3!  There's no other guy or gal to compare.  Part of me wants to go back and have Kaiden as LI1, so I can crush his heart in the last game.  The way he treated Shepard on Horizon really pissed me off.  I wish there was a renegade interrupt to sock him in the jaw.

Garrus didn’t oppose the idea off the bat because he saw it as a way for him to help Fem!Shep out. But as the relationship progresses, it becomes less about “blowing off steam” and more about making it something special and meaningful for the both of them.

This, completely. It's obvious that his awkwardness came from a place where he realized he cared about her, not from being uncomfortable and not wanting it.

I really hope you can tell him off for telling you off, since I'm doing this with my second playthrough (albeit with Thane, because I didn't want to put poor Garrus in the middle of it like that). I think my InfiltratorShep is actually rebounding with Thane to get back at Kaidan. Poor Thane. :(

Hey guys,

Dunno if this has been discussed before, but what did you think of Grunt's whole killing-turians humor? I don't understand why the "what about Garrus" was the renegade choice- personally, I think that was more paragon because Shepherd was concerned that Grunt's prejudice may affect the other teammates. Personally, I thought it was the better response option.

I don't quite understand why Grunt was so pissed at Turians either. I mean, I do since obviously Turians went to war with the krogans and introduced the genophage, but for him to be that racist when the turians had not affected him personally was kind of poor judgment on his behalf. Hell, I could definitely understand why Wrex would say something like that, having experienced the fallout of the genophage and many turians in his lifetime, and yet he never said anything to the extent of that.

Ummm...well...I think it's just because Grunt is...Grunt. He's not really pissed off - he made an exciting relevation that he must hate turians because that is the way of things apparently, except Garrus you know. Because Garrus is a turian, not turians, which makes perfect sense obviously. Yeah.

Back away, towards the door, no sudden movements.

I actually found that conversation disturbingly funny though. He was so excited about it and you're going...o--kay. I'm leaving now.

I actually missed the Garrus option last time because I was playing full Paragon and have a tendency to not look at the Renegade options to be tempted down the path.. I thought it was really sweet the way she was all protective of him.

Well, I think Grunt was just looking for some feeling to cling to. That's what Krogans do, they find reasons to beat on people. Sometimes they don't need a reason at all. Grunt was trying to feel -something- about -anything-. And anger and rage just happen to be the go-to emotions for Krogan. He had all of these images and things in his head from Okeer, so of course the prejudice against their old enemies the Turians would be in there.

Is it sad that I get super excited when I see that there's four new pages of discussion I haven't read? (We all know it's not, cuz you guys are awesome.)

I wanted to weigh in real quickly on the bi Garrus question...

I'd like to think that I wouldn't care, but I do remember losing a little bit of interest in the Sky relationship in Jade Empire when I found out he could swing both ways.  For some reason it's a turn-off. (I never really was turned on by the guy on guy thing either. Personal tastes) The best way I can describe it....hm...I guess I must've felt like I wasn't special anymore.  No, that's a terrible way to describe it. *sigh* I dunno, it's silly.

THAT BEING SAID, even though the relationship would lose a little bit in my eyes, I fully support a Garrus relationship for the fellas.  I'd take a personal hit for my HeadCannon because I think it's too damn unfair that a guy who wants to romance Garrus can't, but hey, if you're a girl it's totally ok.  Girls can also romance Liara in the first game, so I just get a little irritated thinking that guys who want M/M relationships are pretty much the only ones left out of the equation.  Doesn't seem right.

I dunno, I'm not too great at explaining myself when it comes to stuff like this.

Oh, and off that topic...that Afternoon Delight video had me in stitches. STITCHES.:D

I kind of feel similarly too. I guess you just get really into the romances and if you're not a person that would date someone who is bisexual in real life, you get the similar feelings with this character you've become invested in. It's weird, and it doesn't all together make sense, but there it is.

But for me it's also about how I've always been envious of the guys' LIs, always felt like they had a little more thought put into them (especially in ME1.. heck, I think the Male Shepard got a lot more thought put into him all around). So when characters like Sky in JE come along where it feels like they finally did it right for us girls, you
find out that the guys can have him too and it's like, if there's any male LIs that are worthwhile it's only because they're for guys too, and then you feel like they're still not considering their female audience very much. That's how it is for me, at least, but then I've been carrying that chip around on my shoulder for a while.

And that said, I still stand by my statement that I wouldn't really mind if they had made Garrus bisexual, since it wouldn't really affect my gameplay.

So this is the Garrus thread I heard about. Well took me the best part of yesterday but I finally got on. Amazing to see how many people have replied to this thread since it's inception. And I can see why the respect is well deserved.

Needless to say I was plesently surpised that Garrus was in ME2. One half of my reaper kicking squad. Upon seeing him it was like the remergance of an old friend. ANd how better to start it of then against those that were better armed and had more manpower. Just like old times. I'm surprised no one commented on the merc hold out on Omega. Thart is easily one of my favourite parts. And with Garrus at my side makes it more enjoyable. The music really gets you ready to battle but anyways, I digress. Firstly, mad props to Bioware for bringing back one of the popular squaddies back. and also for the job they did for his character. I never realized just how rich they had made his persona until I played ME2.

During his loyalty mission, how he came across about wanting to kill sidonis worried me a bit as it wasn't him. All it too was a small nudge to get him back on the path. Still what he did to Harkin though was satisfieying. Never liked him.

And the innuendos that stem from the conversations made me laugh. Who can forget the heatsink? But also how he seemed unsure about "blowing off steam" with FemShep. That was nice touch I thought and the fact that he is willing to try, but the bit that seemed to secure it was him mentioning about not having a fetish for humans. Saying it was not about that but about them, which hinted he was interested in the commander which made me smile a bit. But the final bit came when he wanted to try it with FemShep and he sounded so sincere in saying it.

But to me the romance scene was easily the best. The writing was well thought out and the timing of the music was spot on. And how it conveys the emotion was also strong and well thought out. Femshep touching Garrus cheek said absolutly everything. Poor Garrus had benn through so much crap that he deserved FShep I believe. I also hope that he will return as a squaddie in ME3 and that the romance does carry on and that it wasn't a one night stand but looking at how you can invite Garrus up after the game, it seems that it is highly likely that there is something more to it. At least, I would lke to believe there would be. I'm guessing that in ME3 the love plot wll be of some importance. And what would happen if it ever got out that GArrus and FShep were together. I'm certain that Garrus' father would have something to say.

And who here also has an in game vendetta against the Blue suns? I do. They were the ones who injured GArrus after all. Still heres hoping that in ME3 the romance will be something more and Garrus will be a Squaddie.

Excellent post, and name, Mr. Heatsink. ;)

I hadn't thought about the Blue Suns being the ones to get him, honestly. I just killed so many of those darned gang members that it was getting confusing. That said, you do seem to run into the Blue Suns an awful lot, so that helps make up for it, I guess. I'll bet Garrus had fun on those particular missions. >8D

@Nadia: lol at that emo, dejected-looking Garrus. xD

WHy thanks Aris. Just a few little things that I picked up on. The Blue suns are quite numerous but then again they are the largest Merc band in the terminus systems. And while I do enjoy killing them, what I really want to do is find their main base and wipe out the chain of command. Sorry if it's a bit personal but the Blue suns have a lot to answer for. I was thinking of people to show their support for Garrus being in ME3 to take a still of your shepard wearing the Arisake visor. Garrus wears an eyepiece so lets show our support for him. A "Support Garrus in ME3" campaign.

I found it amusing yesterday when I was doing Grunt and Mordin's loyalty missions and on one of them I had Garrus with me and I was walking past those two krogan that are in that tunnel near the landing pad area the kodiak is in and one of them said the line about wondering what a Turian looks like... and I was soo wanting the option for Shep to say "There is one standing right in front of you, is their a problem!" specially as it was said after I'd killed the Thresher Maw lol

I take Mordin and Garrus with me everywhere,  so I was a little disappointed when they didn't receive much recognition on Tuchanka.  I mean, the two species krogan hate more than any other, and nobody even noticed.  I think that was a missed opportunity on Bioware's part. (Plus, I would've loved the opportunity to defend Garrus, ehehe. Maybe headbutt some people on his behalf.)

...WHO ARE ALL YOU PEOPLE WITH THEMS SNAZZY AVATARS?

Whoa. Caps not intended (yay, Ventrilo hotkey!) but I'm leaving it that way.
Anyway...I thought this was established pages ago - Shepard would totally wear wedding armor. But...you know. I could actually picture her getting secretly excited picking out a dress, but then going with the armor anyway.
Personally, I see her being comfortable with one of those quickie Vegas-type weddings. Or, hell, just one day going up to Joker and saying "Marry us." Which...doesn't make too much sense since he's the pilot, not the captain.
What the hell...what am I going on about...?
Quick! Something more on-topic! Um...an epilogue that actually had a cutscene and not just walls of text would be preferable. I'M LOOKING AT YOU, DRAGON AGE.

Yeah, FemShep would definitely be for the no-hassle wedding. Not like she has any family to invite if you picked two of the three origins, anyway.

FemShep doesn't seem to keep in much contact with her parents. Considering the email from Hannah Shepard only comes after you've done a few missions or visited a few places, it's likely Spacer Shep would elope and then receive another message from mom months later in all caps saying something like "WHAT THE HELL, HONEY."

@ aznsoisauce: I need to commission a Garrus advice pic now. Something about “Take your shields down.” “Done it.” :police:

Lol! I'm a bit burned out on the Advice Garrus macro for now, but I'll try and figure out a way to put the "shields" one into some advice meme form...But, you know. Someone could always beat me to it.

EDIT: So I found out those wine glasses I tried to cleverly point out earlier were always there on Shep's coffee table (or, in Shep's case, alcoholic beverage table) irregardless of whether you invite an LI up or not, I just never noticed them there before. Kind of disappointing...and a bit disturbing.

Hmm...Re: Garrus is a fling.

I think it starts off as a way to relieve tension. Something else to focus on while they're running around the galaxy, killing people and taking down evil people, just like old times. It's exciting for him, but mostly because it's someone who's proven herself to be physically capable and is more or less mentally stable (YMMV, though Renegade Shep seemed less crazy this time around, thankfully).

I think it *does* grow into him wanting to make it worthwhile, but it's still because he respects Shep as a person and as a commander and doesn't want to mess it up and insult her or ruin something potentially good for them both, not because he's in love with her. Only at the resolution of it does he, in my mind, open up to the love possibility. That's the impression I had, at least. I don't think in either game it was much about love, either, no matter who you chose - it's always convenience, desperation, perhaps very strong attraction... but no one really says "I love you" (maybe Tali does? Or it's so heavily implied that she may as well have?).

But it was most evident in Garrus' romance and that's what irritated me the most. Because the way he approaches it at first is the way he approached it with the turian woman. Although it does become sweet at the end, I really rather wish it was a little less casual at the start.

Though if that means giving up the innuendo, no thank you. Innuendo over sweetness any day.

The return of Garrus and Tali as party members and romantic interests in ME3 would be win.

Bi Garrus is good for me...as long as we get Bi Tali, as well.

Well it could all start of as a fling, but these things tend to grow. Also if it was just to blow off steam because of the mission, why would you be able to invite garrus up afterwards? I believe that there is something more there. It starts off with him just doing it because he respects FShep, but I believe that the romance will play a nice chunk of ME3. Also, Garrus and FShep get very close when they lay on the bed. I want a dev to pop up and say that there is somehting more. That would make my day.

Garrus is an awesome character, sorta like a cool best friend.

Remember his first convo with Shepard after his recruitment mission, commenting on his scars

Garrus: Ah for the best. Everyone was ignoring you, and hitting on me. Time for you to get a fair shot.

Re: Bi Garrus

As long as it didn't affect the Garrus/FemShep romance, I wouldn't care. I'm all for M/M romances, especially if there are F/F romances, but.. well.. I'll be honest. I'm selfish when it comes to Garrus, I can't help it, I've wanted him as a LI since I first played ME1.

Re: Bi Garrus

I wouldn't have any problem with it either. I'm used to M/M and F/F realtionships. Thats what makes Bioware a maker of great games. But if it wasFem only then hey thats cool as well.

I don't know what Mass effect would be without Garrus actually. I really hope that they don't make Garrus as a fling or as a NPC in ME3. the writers wrote a heartfelt and touching scene with Garrus and FemShep which shows that even over a speices barrier love can still bring two people together and thats beautiful. They really should expand as they showed a lot of respect to our fave turian and it seems only fitting that they should carry it on, maybe with Garrus finally coming to terms that he does feel for FemShep or vice versa. They have really set him up beautifully. And judgiung by whats being said, I guess it should be that Garrus would be a continured Love interest and squad mate.

Tali > Garrus > Liara. I loved Liara, who broke my heart in ME2. Tali teased me on a bit, and I still hope it has potential. Garrus was there with his reach when I needed him, he is so cute as he struggles to compliment Shep. :P It made both of us feel better.
