Augh, it was so hard romancing Thane. I got the 'reach and flexibility' conversation and I had to pick the option that I just wanted to spar.. I don't just want to spar, Garrus! >_>

That is what I picked because I stupidly thought the "I didn't mean it like that" (or whatever the phrase was) option was the 'am not interested' option :crying: I know am stupid, as am thinking of correcting my mistake regarding Grunt being replaced by Kasumi I might just start my Renegade FemShep again and make the right choice regarding Garrus this time round. Although part of me thinks leaving it till ME3 will make it more sweeter when it happens?

You know like those "will they, won't they?" moments, gah, decisions, decisions.

Hah, I had the same issue, though Garrus admitting that he doesn't want to have his ass kicked by a human woman is pretty awesome.

Thane's romance was ultimately worth it, but I can't help but see Mel Gibson when I look at him, which freaks me out sometimes.

lol! I didn't mind Thane, but I felt like he was trying too hard to replace his wife. Like he didn't really love Shepard, he just convinced himself he cares about her because he's lonely and needs someone.

When I heard Mordin explain how can't touch drell skin for long without getting a rash, I started to wonder why he's the more 'socially acceptable' option than a turian. It obviously isn't much better from a health-conscious perspective.

So taking that into account and Garrus winning the personality points, Garrus is totaly #1, IMO. ;)

Really.  Interessssting.  So we get unlimited cuddling with Garrus PLUS some CAN ingest provided they're free of an allergic reaction . . . Posted Image

Well, mild rash, and licking him can give you awesome hallucinations. Like licking a toad.

Thane was created from the ground up for the sole purpose of being attractive and romanceable, while Garrus wasn't. That's why it's more 'acceptable.'

Pfft. "Acceptable." Maybe it's just because I'm a guy, but I wasn't terribly attached to Thane. This is just my opinion of course, but I just wasn't buying the whole "repentant assassin" act. I just thought Garrus's sources of grief and anguish made you feel for him more, weight of the galaxy on those weary shoulders.

They didn't necessarily say 'awesome' hallucinations. Imagine making out with him, things are just getting hot and heavy and all of a sudden you see spiders everywhere. >_> <_<

See, that's part of what turns me off about Thane, though. He's suave, but I don't find him physically attractive at all, so being told he was designed to be the perfect LI is kind of irritating. It's like being told a movie is the best movie ever before you even see it, doesn't let you form your own opinion about it.

I think the fact that Garrus is more popular than Thane despite all of the Thane advertising makes me like Garrus even more.

I liked Thane's dialogue, as it was more in depth than the rest of the team's, for the most part. I don't think I could ever feel that much for him though. Plus, I'm with SavageLycan on the repentant assassin thing. Most of his actions were "his body" and not "him". Pfft, lame cop-out to avoid responsibility for being a contract killer, IMO.

As a guy, I can't really say much about the physical attraction of Thane or Garrus, but Garrus was a lot more likable for me anyway because you can see how world-weary he became for the two years Shepard was out of action. I thought it added a lot to his character.

Wait, what? Are you serious? Posted Image
I haven't tried the Thane romance yet, so I have no idea either way, but...wow.

Why do people find it so difficult to like one romance without belittling the others? I come in here to talk about Garrus and all I see is Thane haterade. What the heck does Thane have to do with Garrus? They're completely different characters with completely different romances.

I can safely say that this is flat-out wrong and if you listened to some of Thane's conversations he flat-out says that's not the case.

He has NEVER been marketed as the "perfect LI." All that was said was that his aesthetic was the most challenging to design because the devs wanted to make him attractive as a potential love interest (something they had never done before with male aliens.) This was not an issue for Garrus because his design was already set. People really need to stop embellishing this.

This makes no sense. Garrus has been around for years. He's been a steady fan favorite for years. What do you expect?

Wow, I hadn't heard that about Thane before. xD It might be a bad idea for Shepard to try that right before the suicide mission though. She could have hallucinations of her team turning into Reapers for all she knows.

I don't hate Thane at all... One of my Shepards is going to romance him in a future playthrough. I just like Garrus more. :)

Nothing wrong with that! :D I much prefer Thane as a romance but Garrus is and always will be my space home-bro and I love him to pieces. I can safely say I like both, so it irritates me when it feels like people are driven to put down one as if it helps the other. Wuht?

And someone has linked the Rhodes Garrus wallpaper, right? I love his style, Garrus looks so playful in it.

I haven't found an excess of Thane hatred around here, though I agree that within a discussion about a certain LI, discussion of other LIs is a loaded topic.
I like to think the Garrus thread is better than that though, quite a few of us (myself included) have no problem with Thane and I'm smack-dab in the middle of doing his romance on a secondary playthrough.

I have no hate for Thane. I loved the romance. Garrus is still my favourite, but Thane's was very emotional. And depressing. It was well-written, as was the rest of the game. The only character I can't get into is Jacob, which actually works out well, I don't have a Shepard for him to romance.

It's not that I don't like Jacob, I do, he's a great friend... he just doesn't do it for me romantically, but more power to those who like him.

... And Thane still looks like Mel Gibson.

Bad timing, maybe? (Not trying to be sarcastic mind you, because idk, we've had several long stretches without Thane being mentioned until just now)

Granted, you know very well how I feel about Thane, so yeah.

@ Mek - Good point, I have a thing with bad timing. I normally drop in right when things get awkward.

I don't mean to derail this thread or anything but, much like Garrus (or the lovechild of Garrus and Samara (...)) whenever I see what I perceive to be INJUSTICE I rush right in and try to push people against walls and knee them in the crotch and so forth. Feel free to sic a Shepard on me to reel me in when I get too "NO, YOU!"

OH! And I'm sure this has been talked about already but I haven't run into it yet -- is there any discernible difference with Shepards who didn't recruit Garrus in ME1? I never could *not* pick up the turian because, let's face it, leaving him to sulk beside the elevator is heartbreaking.

Well of course he's going to say that's the case, but he's fooled himself about things before. And I did say that was how I felt about it, that's not necessarily how it was supposed to be. Maybe I just liked that better because it adds a dimension to the romance I had with him and my Kaidan-romancing FemShep, like they both start out using each other unintentionally and then in ME3 it becomes actual love.

Maybe not 'perfect', but they have flat out said that was the only reason he was created, to be attractive to the ladies. Which strikes me as kind of smug.

I'm not trying to say Thane sucks or anything, I actually like the character, I just like Garrus better. I just brought up Thane because I had just finished his romance, and because of the feeling I keep getting that people on the boards think Garrus is the worst option simply because of physical incompatibility, and I was trying to point out that there were hurdles for him, too.

EDIT: Augh, what's with the weird formatting this forum keeps doing?

Garrus will be my male Shepard's best friend!

I actually liked most of the characters. I didn't care for Miranda at first because she wanted to put a control chip in Shepard's brain, but I started to like her more after the loyalty mission. xD I wouldn't insult the characters I don't like though, because a lot of people do like them. :)

Aww Irraca don't be like that, it's all good. Poking fun at the characters is what happens in these threads, they do it all the time in the Thane/Tali ect threads too. I don't go into the other threads and go OMG HOW DARE YOU INSULT MY BOY/GIRL/SPACE MONSTER!!!
It's just a fun game we all love. Lets all not forget why we are all here. :)

Also i always wondered about players who didn't get Garrus in the first game. How is that explained, i wonder?

I finished playing my first run though ME2, and the first squadmate to go was my Garrus. I threw the controller down and screamed how I completed his loyalty mission and knew that my Shepard should've screwed him.

Then I found out there was a technique to having all of your crew survive...

See? If your femshep had just put out, Garrus's trip through the tubes of doom would not have been in vain!
