Does anybody know how to recreate the Turian voice effect in Adobe Audition or the like? If not, its time we started working on that, I think :3

I've tried in other programs, but not been able to come up with something satisfactory. It's harder than it seems.

I'm almsot certain that Garrus will return in the third one and hopefully we might see FShep and Garrus share a quick kiss at the end. And whoever said about the scouter hiding a tear of his was a nice thought. If there was a turian tear that would make the whole romance beautiful.

Perhaps we should start by finding a clear soundfile of Brandon Keener, so we can see whether or not our experimental effects make his voice sound like Garrus' does. Anyone got something usable?

@Tootles  Yeah I keep seeing people saying turians are avian-inspired.  I do see some influence but before I read that I could never decide what they were based *most* on.  Even now I don't think they are more avian than any one other thing.  To me they look like a mix of bird, cat, a little reptilian (maybe even a dinosaur -- especially the eyes, for some reason, I guess b/c they are small -- which would tie in to the bird qualities anyway). Anyway, it's just interesting. It reminds me how the creature coming up in The Last Guardian (by same guy who did Shadow of the Colossus) is a mix of many different animals but it's not predominantly any of them.

ok L-O-L for some reason that was NOT what I was expecting, caught me off guard...thought it was gonna be a close up of a turian mouth when he was laughing or something...but, good to know.  Also "for science" ^^

Aris Ravenstar, thankyou for the pictures. They were just what I needed, but I didn't know where to start looking (The answer, obviously, was the Garrus love and adoration thread! For all you Garrus related needs). Well, I have no excuses for not drawing fanart now!

Didn't try it but maybe the definition of what the flanging is could help:

"Flanging is an audio effect that occurs when two identical signals are mixed together, but with one signal time-delayed by a small and gradually changing amount, usually smaller than 20 milliseconds. This produces a swept comb filter effect: peaks and notches are produced in the resultant frequency spectrum, related to each other in a linear harmonic series. Varying the time delay causes these to sweep up and down the frequency spectrum.

Part of the output signal is usually fed back to the input (a "re-circulating delay line"), producing a resonance effect which further enhances the intensity of the peaks and troughs. The phase of the fed-back signal is sometimes inverted, producing another variation on the flanging sound

Thanks! I know about flanging and that you can use it to synthesize reptilian voices. Krogan and Drell voices should also use flanging in some way (if not mostly). I think it works well because many real reptiles sound a lot like this. Sal****er crocodiles for example sound a lot like Krogan, for they too have deep rumbling voices that ripple through you.

Flanging is the only clue I have for this puzzle. But there are good news: I've recorded the line that Brandon says in the ME2 documentary which came with my CE. And I think I may have the right effect already; surely not the same one that Bioware uses, but it sounds very much like Garrus to me. Unfortunately, Brandon sounds like Garrus already :D I hoped the difference would be greater to make it easy for me to compare both versions.

@Kim Shepherd I'm with ya. Honestly, I think turians are one of the most original looking alien species designed. In the past they've all been some sort of variation on "the greys", or insectoids, or blobs. Bioware really broke the mold with these guys.
