Am I using it incorrectly or is hold position broken?

OK, so I'm trying to get rid of some red templars, and sure enough they cheat by bringing giants along for the party. I'm trying to kite them away from the templars, since they are near impossible to tackle together AND they're all 2 or so levels higher than I am. To do this I tell my party to hold position while I aggro the giant and lure him over. If I mistakenly aggro the templars as well, I'd fall back until they stopped chasing me, and since the giant was slower, he'd fall behind, making it easier to divide and conquer.

The thing is though, those three idiots "behind" me refuse to stay put. No matter how many times I tell them to hold position, they keep charging forward anyway. Bull seems to be the leader of this little insurrection, which hurts me dearly because I though we were buddies. :( Is this an issue for anyone else? Is there something I'm missing? I hope so because I'm at the final part of this dungeon and I'd just like to get it over with.

It's not broken, but it is clumsy and can be infuriating.  Check this:

Will give you a little more insight as to how it works.

Thanks, Oryctolagus, I think I see what my problem is (exiting tac cam eventually clearing the command). Clumsy indeed...

Thanks, again.

This is my biggest peeve at the moment.  I want to tac-cam, give commands, un-tac-cam.  Hopefully a bug, hopefully patched.

hold position is majorly broken not working as it should anyway makes it hard when you have like 3 seconds to say light 4 torches trying to get your party members to light them is a joke when whenever you switch between charactors they grp up with you needs fixing badly.

I switch from Tacticam to normal play a lot (I play as a Rogue) and the AI tend to stick where I tell them to, except in a couple of situations: 1) when they're out of range of any enemies and 2) when I've tried to place them before the battle has started.  There are a couple of things you can try if you haven't already:

- Change their preferred behaviour to defend themselves rather than attack the player's target.

- Don't make them do a basic attack on a  specific target, since this seems to cancel the Hold command.  You can get them to attack specific targets with abilities, though.
