I've decided to play as an artificer archer and will probably go with Cass/Blackwall, Sera and Solas.

However, i am confused about all the mage skills and can't decide which build for Solas.

Can anyone help me here by showing some builds for Solas? I mean what actual skills do i choose for him, since i really don't know what "ice focused" means.

Thanks a lot!

I'd max out his Rift mage tree when I get it, except for maybe the focus ability. Keeping everything constantly 30% weakened is just too amazing. Barrier is a must have of course, maybe grab the threat reduction passive as well. Then you just need to add some damage on all of it, i'd grab upgraded immolate and work my way down to fire mine. Multi elemental might have been nice bud it bugged my solas so that he stopped casting spells. :(

Solas will be your barrier/support mage. Thus he is simple to build:

- Get about everything in Spirit. You can decide yourself if the mana/stamina regen and revive is worth it, but I take it anyways.

- Winter's grasp and the passive to the left of it(the name escapes me now..). Later on you can also grab the mana-on-stand-still passive and Fade Step.

- About everything in Rift mage. Weakness is huge, more mana is huge, control is huge.

- You could get Energy Barrage for more dps, or go down fire as well. Your preference. Spirit/Frost/Rift Mage is the core/defensive.

His most important abilities are:

1) Barrier. 'duh!

2) Winter's grasp. CC and set up combos.

3) Dispel. Dispel is love, dispel is life!

4) Veilstrike or Stone*whateveritis*. Rift mage abilities for weakness debuff.

Everything else is optional. Just remember to reserve his mana at 30%/50% so he don't spend mana dpsing, when you'd need it for barrier, winter's grasp or dispel!

You need three things as a Rift mage, the rest is up to you:

1) Rift tree - all of it, except the focus skill

2) Flashpoint and Clean Burn passives from the Fire tree. I also take Wall of Fire (or Fire mine. if you have Friendly Fire off)

3) Energy Barrage, upgraded, for damage and for it's synergy with the fire passives.

For the early levels - Barrier, Winter's grasp, Fade Step.

I built my Solas (but I play the 9 companions shifting them regularly) as a pure support, I took most of his rift tree so far and a big part of the spirit one. He can be both DPS oriented or very supportive kind, both are efficient, a mix of two aswell. If you plan on using only him as a mage and want him to have decent damage try not to focus him too much on only one element (or at least use the targeting properly so he doesn't end focusing the only ennemy with armor to his element).
