Well, when you think about it life is basically just an endless fetch quest.

Do tell.

oh i can deal with people challenging my opinions, i just dont like it when they say that i shouldnt voice them at all, which is what you did  . If you dont think this thread should exist, why bother replying to it?

back on topic, this is the first time i find myself constantly being bored in a bioware game and certain aspects of the main story are so ridiculous, more specifically when it comes to the wardens, the plot is so bad   the rest of it is nice, but the wardens and their role in the plot and the reason for their actions is pure cringe.

thats why we have video games, to escape from real life, and its hardly a good comparison, because irl nobody asks me to skin 10 cows or pick flowers. The fetch quests in dai are even worse than the ones irl :D

..and yet people STILL have a problem with everything bioware does.
Are we even serious?

No offense at all OP but:
Have you actually realised the magnitude of this game?
i am 60 hours in , nightmare with friendly fire and i just got to crestwood:
The off story quest with the undead threat is seriosuly of EPIC proportions.
And these EPIC proportions quests are in every map!!!!

seriously dragon age inquisition sure has it's faults but it is the best game bioware has ever produced!!!!

People were complaining for everything in da2 and while this game is the exact opposite of da2 (non personal story, an epic story, TONS of HUGE areas as opposed to da2, more characters, more everything) people still have a problem.

Hell, DA:I is propably the best game i ve played so far!!!!!!

As for endless fetch quests: have any of you realised that these are totally optional and you can anytime priogress in the sotry? power points are in every corner!!!!

good luck getting back to kotor or DaO after Da:I
People always find a reason to nug (pun intented),
"blah blah da2 has small maps, the same areas, blah blah, boring characters, blah , blah, waves of enemies, too fast combat, no tactical camera, a non epic story, blah blah blah mass effect 3 sucks etc"
I can only omagine how me4 shapes to be after this game.
Also give the devs credit: the world is alive, fantastic to roam at, dense most of the time with tons of different things to do; this is not a game about killing only, just relaise that.

you said in another post that you have only seen the game from videos; you don't own it.
This game is not an offline mmo: do not tet the few "fetch 10 mob leftovers" fool you at all.
There is a story behind everything.
Also if you dont like the game and you dont play it at all then why are you in these forums?
I would not comment at all in a game i would not own at all.

Open world does this game a disservice in some respects, I think.

By making it "open" world, they skimped on side content and just added as much stuff in as possible. The game, for me personally, doesn't really start until 30 hours in. I haven't done any main storyline missions past acquiring Skyhold because the actual Bioware game is in-between. I'm talking to characters, I'm doing personal stories, I'm getting the occasional cinematic scene where the characters are given an opportunity to develop beyond "Commander. Mercenary. Soldier. Diplomat."

It's a difficult one isn't it? I mean, Ioannisdenton is quite right in pointing out that Bioware have done great work in crafting some terrific environments, but it's equally true that the sheer size of Inquisition has become a story diluting distraction to many - myself included. For what it's worth, Origins still remains the high water mark for me in that it comes the closest of all the DA Games to finding that sweet spot between balancing size, pace and story content.

I agree with you OP. Most of the optional content isn't even worth doing.

Well, when you think about it life is basically just an endless fetch quest.

Nah, it's far more boring.

Good grief...you want a game with fetch quests?  Try Destiny.  Talk about mind-numbing, going over the same ground 50 times for spinmetal or some other material that you need in dump truck quantities.  After that train wreck, this is a breath of fresh air.

Personally, I love a game where I can explore every inch of the world looking for secrets.  I find that most of these quests are structured to keep you moving forward on your exploration.

I also love the fact that there is a synergy between all these small quests and the ongoing Inquisition.  This is the first time I've played a game where all these actions tie into my own role as a "general" of sorts, orchestrating a massive, complex effort.  Sometimes I just turn the game on for 15 minutes if I'm pressed for time, just to go to the war table and see what little side quests I can initiate from there.

Honestly, if you don't like games where you explore and look for loot, why would you play an RPG?  I just assume everyone who likes the genre really enjoys that part of experience.

actually most tactical rpgs, real tactical rpg not games and/or fans trying to avoid admitting it's an action rpg, have very little of that as a rule. get a old school tactical jrpg to see what I mean. you can look for a western one but that is a lot harder to find.

rule of thumb when looking if it has a little bit of everything it's probably action rpg, if it's all about large scale, relatively speaking, turn based battles it's likely tactical.

Wasn't Origins full of 'fetch' quests?

Grey Warden ritual was a fetch quest at Korcari wild, Go fetch the ashes to save Arl, Go fetch the scarf from the werewolf, fetch acorn for the poet tree, fetch some pelts for Cammen, fetch some blessings for Redcliffe soldiers, fetch key to get Sten, fetch the Grimoire, fetch stuff for Wade, etc..

All of those "fetch" quests began and ended with cinematic dialog where your character could make many decisions.

Edit, this was meant as a response to the "people living in the past" thread

The thing is, they could have used the resources and time they had to make a very solid 50-70 hour amazing rp experience, instead of 20-30 hours interesting content and 110 hours running around huge maps collecting stuff, killing bears and skinning cows for no apparent reason.

Don't blame Bioware for that.  There was, and still is, this big drive for open world adventures; one that I simply don't understand.  Everyone knows that open-world means watered down content.  I happen to think Bioware did a pretty decent job actually considering the challenges.  I have always preferred a more linear, focused game.  But people constantly deride linear games.  Corridors they call it.  No freedom they say.  Well here you go: an open world Dragon Age.  And a damn good one.  Yes, there are fetch quests.  Go here, collect X of this, craft Y this, kill Z of these.

I also would have preferred a more condensed 50-hour game, but I'm happy with the game the way it is.

"When a man is young he is an untameable lion. When he's older and marries he becomes a beast of burden"

Ancient Chinese Proverb

Dragon Age Inquisition is a mature game and marketed after a suitable audience. Some of us are actually used to doing real life things that we find boring. If your life is such that you find a video game tedious monotonous torture, just wait.

In all seriousness, there aren't that many fetch quests. The stuff you're doing on the side is contextual, and most importantly optional.

I'm disappointed by the length of the main story as well. I also feel like the world just... died after the main quest. Some story moments were a confusing mess or just poorly executed. There were some moments that I liked, but the short story, ending, and post-game did not meet my expectations of a BioWare title.

That wasn't why people hated it though.

It was the repeated/reused environments, bugs, lack of customisation and interaction etcetc...

I don't think I've ever heard anyone complain they disliked DA2 because they focused on the story too much.

Lies.

The first thread I saw when I came here was about how the DAO story narrative was way better than DA2s and that DA3 should be more like DAO. It had like 100 pages.

The DAI core questline the same length as the DAO quest line if not longer though...

If you are removing the companion quests, zone quests, and necessary side quests from the equation then that's wrong. That's as much as part of the story as the actual core plot...

BioWare games have always revolved around the concept of companionship. ME2 takes this to extreme as the core plot was only 4 quests long, while the companion quests constituted 70% of the game's content. (not an exact estimate but pretty close).

DAI has nine companions and three advisers to interact with, each with their own quest line.

You cannot conveniently ignore that. This is a BioWare game. Companions will always be part of the main storyline.

I agree that it is not an endless fetch quest game. I am just in Emprise du Lion and the quest to rid the area of threats is very engaging and nice. N u will meet a character from the book. it is good. True, i wish there will be more cut scenes and more interaction with this character etc. but the world is so big and the main quest is fun enough to do that i am ok with it.

Well...who DOESN'T want more of those? :P

Some people claiming that there is a lack of them is just plain delusional though.

.........................

I'd argue that is more of a criticism on how the story was told and arguably its quality or setting, not the fact that the quests within game itself had a focus on storytelling.

really not sure how this game is a grind 9other than putting up with the ghastly UI), I wish I had a way to turn of XP, I'm a completionist and out leveling things so fast. The thing about all these fed-ex quests is that you really dont have to do them. I wish they (like a lot of other games) dont show us where things are, it makes games less about exploring and more about becoming a checklist.
