Here's a comparison of the best crafted bow versus best crafted Bianca. Since Bianca cannot have a Mastercraft slot, I figured it'd only be fair if the crafted bow uses critical crafting (+10%) for its mastercraft slot.
 
As you can see, while Bianca has slightly more attributes, it has significantly lower weapon damage. 167 vs 140 is going to be pretty big when it comes to ability damage. It's also worth noting that Bianca can actually reach 105% armor penetration, by sacrificing the 14% attack, which is not a great trade since AP has no effect after 100%.

Something slightly less obvious which may be worth considering in these comparisons...



with the stock Arms VI and some custom parts Varrics gets pretty insane crit damage bonus coupled with high crit rate and attack gain (custom made enhanced Arms III can offer a bit higher base damage per shot/dps but at the expense of these attributes, even with best materials I couldn't quite match them) I'm not sure how close the best crafted bow can match these factors on other characters, and thus if the gap between them isn't in the end more narrow that it'd appear at a glance.

Lets not forget why varric only uses a crossbow. Because hes a merchant, and a story writer. Not a trained fighter. Take his crossbow away and his like a helpless baby. I mean, when ya look at it that way the crossbow is ridiculous. I mean Bianca is really carrying him through all this, and making up for his shortcomings. The guy can't even use a bow.

The best thing of archers is that besides doing as good or better damage than DW, they do it from a safe 50 feet distance and don't require second by second micromanaging to keep them alive in higher difficulty settings.

Also gotta love Flask of Fire +4x Longshot to clear rifts/creature camps before they even know what hit them, or Full Draw + Stealth clearing the whole game solo. Lame, but overpowered.

 

Archers suffer the most at the start of the game. Once you get a specalization, archers come into their own DPS wise. Even early game the advantage of the archer is that you can pick off ranged attackers without having to move into melee with them first. This is great vs fade rifts and those bloody wraths.

If you aren't an Uncle Scrooge and use some decent dragon bone on Bianca's updates you can actually make it a decent weapon.

Dragon Bone is used for both Aiming and Grip.
