I didn't find it that hard, but I did like others have said, and went back whenever Cassandra said she heard fighting. I still managed to find the things they told me to find, no problem, but I didn't get to spend as much time looking around and looting as I would like. Seriously, these timed quests are not my favorite mechanic. I realize they are trying to convey a sense of urgency but I don't like them ![]()

I got all of the loot, and all of the objectives, and saved Berris. How? clean one room, run to hall, clean antoehr, run to hall, it takes time but, you can do it all.

If they didn't something would make a thread complaining about the lack of urgency....again

This is part of the reason why I'm glad I'm pro-mage. I don't want to babysit the templars and come back every 5 seconds just so one guy can't die.

This. It's easy to keep him alive while still getting all the loot. There's no reason you have to do it all in one trip.
Go to one side bottom, explore and loot until the meter ticks 50%, go back to the hall. Rinse and repeat.
Go to that same side on the top just to make sure you got everything.
Do the same on the other side. Congrats on your loot.
If you want, you can keep doing that over and over to collect the demon claws for research.
There's no reason to let Berris die.

Eh I just went back after recruiting one or two templars (depending on how much I waffled about).
Just did it on nightmare. It's not that bad as long as you're doing decent damage. (To my chagrin I realized I had freaking lighting staff and mostly lighting abilities. *grumble*)

It might be a lot harder on a more difficult setting but he is one npc I would throw a barrier at. ![]()

He dies if the bar drops below 30%. You actually have quite a bit of room to play around before having to return to the hall.

Shayna, they joined the order. They knew what they were getting into. I say let 'em die.
If you're old enough to get this, I approve of you.

Really? I did the quest on 4 different playthroughs and was able to vacuum the area without him ever dying. Not bragging of course, I just had no idea he can actually during the questline. I thought he was essential, like Fiona, in asserting the alliance between the Templars and Inquisition. Interesting.

Didn't realize this was a regular thing, is it really that hard to keep him alive?
From personal experience it's really not hard at all. It takes like 3-5 minutes for the bar to drop to 50%. Plenty of time to explore/pillage the area.

I guess the sense of urgency worked on me then ![]()

Oh, sure.
I still get so lost in Therinfall Redoubt. Midway through the encounter with Envy, I start to wish Cole would help more. xD
Side Note: I really wish Fiona wasn't essential. Here, have a rant about that:
Edit: It's not even that I necessarily wish her harm...it's more that I don't understand why she needs to be at Skyhold when her counterpart (Ser Barris) is actually off 'saving the world one seriously mucked up situation at a time.'

Well to be fair, she's overseeing her fellow Mages. They still consider her Grand Enchanter/Leader, and the leader should always be with the people.
Ser Barris is not as much a leader of Templars when he's out saving the world. When he gets promoted, yeah.
Still I agree to an extent, it would've been nice for Fiona to have a greater purpose than just standing around in the library. An operation or two, some implication on the main story, anything.

Well if you ally with the mages, Fiona gives you information about where you can find the rest of the rebel mages while if you conscript her, you get an operation where you interrogate her.

I guess, but it really pales in comparsion to Barris' operations.

I did end up missing some loot I think... But if you know you've saved all but one Vet you can then run around and collect loot, run back, collect loot on the other side, run back, then save the final vet and get most of it.

I've been going through 3 or 4 forums on this topic, though I've been looking for any other effects by not doing the flag ritual. i am not sure how much if helps but you can enter a place as many times as you like. for instance. i go get the lyrium then return to the hall. i go get the templar in that area and return to the hall. i then search the bottom level for loot and return. then i search the upper level for loot and return. then only do i go over to the other side. i get the first templet, run to up the ramp get the second templar, return to the hall. search the bottom level for loot. return to the hall, search the top level for loot return to the hall. then unlock the door and search the dungeons for loot and return. barrus survives every time. i takes a long time but you can get everything, no need to rush it.
best of luck ![]()

Forget about that second son of a dog lord! What about Lord Esmeral Abernache?!
I conscripted the templars, and I don't think I got any of Ser Barris' Chore Table missions. The wiki says if you conscript, the missions might not appear due to a bug. So I guess it's hit and miss.

He died also in my game (to be honest I didn't know he could even survive since I never read wiki or guides before the game) but I have already fixed it in the Keep. That's why I love that tool.
