Barris died in my first templar playthrough and I was mad that, once again, the black guy was a redshirt.

As soon as the brown stuff hit the fan in Therinfal, I thought "Ugh, I doubt this is going to end well for you, buddy" for just that reason, and was likewise annoyed but not entirely surprised when he did die. My bad for not taking that timer bar more seriously, I suppose, but there is still that element of having seen it coming.

I didn't learn that he can survive until 20+ in-game hours down the line, and by then I didn't want to go back and replay all that stuff all over again, obviously. But next time around, I'll bloody well make sure he lives.

That's the advantage of multiple play throughs. You get to change who lives and who dies.

I'm always hyper-attentive about timers, so as soon as the bar dipped below 2/3, I'd drop everything and zip back to the Great Hall, even on my first pro-templar run. There is no limit to how many times you can return to the Great Hall, so if you only make it a few feet in before you have to turn around and go back, so what? Besides, if you return to the hall before the timer dips below 50%, you only have to kill 2 horrors.

Fun fact: You can go back later and scoop up loot even after you've found all the veterans. Yeah, you still have to go back to the hall when the timer starts to wind down, but you don't have to miss out on loot. Since the red templars respawn endlessly, it's a great way to pick up extra xp and goodies. Of course, that assumes that you have inventory space for all of it. I always run out.

Forget about that second son of a dog lord! What about Lord Esmeral Abernache?!

I conscripted the templars, and I don't think I got any of Ser Barris' Chore Table missions. The wiki says if you conscript, the missions might not appear due to a bug. So I guess it's hit and miss.

Here the promotion with templars conscripted: https://account.xbox...76-e00e7fe465df

It was possible before patch 2, but since then its no longer possible.

Wow had no idea he could die! I played on both Nightmare and Casual and not once did I let that happen. I guess I'm just also super aware of timers. It never crossed my mind that he could possibly die. I was thinking he and Calpernia were somehow meant to have possible plot armor to be in the next or future game. If you side with the Mages... the Haven boss fight is Knight Captain Denham so he could have possibly escaped Therinfal. Also Calpernia doesn't exactly die if you choose to fight her. She throws herself off that waterfall but she could have survived.

I agree with what was mentioned earlier about being happy if all the Templar stuff was kept within one path. I really wanted the Certainty blade. The Staff of Corruption is useless in my side with the Templars playthrough.

I'm usually frantically obsessive about this sort of thing, but in this case tried to make a deliberate effort to be more chill and not let the game stress me out. Sod's law that I picked a context where there actually are consequences for not stressing out.  As someone who tends to clamor for more consequences, I actually kind of like that, but it did still give me a huge guilt trip when I found out that I could have saved the poor guy.

(Needless to say, the timed/approval mechanics at Halamshiral had me in knots again later on ... though there were no sympathetic NPCs whose deaths I would have mourned in that cesspit.)

Dang, just came to check and see if this had been fixed yet, and was hoping for good news.  Frickin' frackin'.  I like to disband the Templars since it gives a better ending in the epilogue...but missing out on Barris' stuff is a real bummer.
