This is the spoiler section so I can talk freely, right?

Need I remind people that Varric can die depending on your world state that you import? If Hawke let him keep the red lyrium shard, he becomes possessed and the Inquisitor has to either put him down or let him "live" as a shell of his former self.

I think you might have read somebody's fanfiction by mistake.  Varric's a big boy and takes every precaution against the red lyrium.  There are no downsides, and if anything, it's only a good thing to let him keep it.  Anybody who claims to be his friend should let him keep it.

That was part of a list of ''spoilers'' I read before playing the game, alongside ''Hawke is captured by mages or templars and is awaiting execution''. I'm pretty sure it can't actually happen.

The follwers should die permanently if you run away from the batle and they were dead. This would make the game a lot more engaging and tense, in a good way.

That's just loony.

I was in the same boat, was a pleasant surprise that I hadn't been dealt with true spoilers haha.

Well, in a game based on story. Having a companion die in a fight against a bear would be pretty stupid. Wouldn't it ?

Not at all...it was a combat with a 400kg beast, why cant my companion die? Of course, I can save him if I stay in combat and defeat the bear. But if I ran away, why shouldnt he die?

IMO, stupid is he "dying" in front of me, then I run away for 10 seconds and he magicly appear next to me..the system we have right now is, at least, lazy.

That's just loony.

Maybe with the current system yes, but there's ways to implement this and make the game way more immersive.

You can "lose" when everyone is dead, what usually only happens if you run into a dragon and cant run.

But, this "impossible to die" really bothers me. No permanent death for the followers make the combat pointless and without consequence. You can almost always run and everything will be ok, everybody will ressurect and will appear by your side seconds later.

Its really a bad gameplay choice.

In a time when games like Dark Souls are praised because they are a challenge, DAI system forgives everything the player has done wrong and dont punish him. Its one of the major mistakes of DAI, IMO.
