FFXIII-2 was such trollery

As said before, FFXIII-2 ends with a 'Yay you won! Whoops, rocks fall and everyone dies!', but the final secret ending ends with 'Oh, and the guy you thought you beat, you didn't even truly beat, and he was witnessing everything you did from the start and was ready for it.

 

Each FF has a sort of commentary on fate. It seems to boil down to 'Fate will happen, everything is destined, but you can determine enough of what you'll be WHEN it happens, that you become part of fate in a way that no entity can truly understand, even 'God'.' Fairly anti-Christian but that's par for the course for Final Fantasy. Even as Serah and Noel fail, their courage prepared the world for not obliteration, but the shepherding to the New World that Lightning is ordered to proceed with in FFXIII: Lightning Returns.

Not an ending per say but there's this moment in Witcher 2, where Geralt can be killed by Iorveth's men for talking **** that surprised the hell out of men when it happened.

Tales of Destiny had one where if you won a supposedly "unwinnable" fight you got an ending where instead of being captured and eventually saving the world from destruction you simply go off and become three thieves until the end of days.

 

I was initially thinking of something like Chrono Trigger with the 13 endings but the Destiny one stuck out because it's the only other alternative ending... and it kind of made sense within the course of the game, etc.

In more recent times Wasteland 2 had a pretty funny one, you go in the main base and there's a museum of sorts with like an old toaster, etc, but also an old nuke. The tooltip is like "wonder if it still works." If you click it boom there goes everyone and the game ends and credits roll.

When you shot the Catalyst on the face w/o choosing the other 3 choices - ME3.

 

I did this accidentally w/o knowing what will happen. I was like "I don't want too!" *BANG* then boy that dude got pissed off  then the end lol!!

 

The other one is from AC: Revelations, I think. It was such a cliffhanger that I uttered "WTF" then suddenly desmond said "WTF" too LOL

I don't think it's an alternate nor secret ending tho. It is, in fact, the intended interpretation of the ending of ME3. 

 

 

Or...... Not. 

 

It's easily the best "alternate" or "secret" ending I've ever seen in pop culture in the last 20 or so years. 

 

It was so epic and so, just well..... Correct. That it started movements and changed BSN, lol. Even forbes covered it. 

 

So, the Indoctrination Theory is the best alternate/secret ending I've ever seen in a creative medium in quite some time.

Frankly I don't bother with anything that is not in the finished product, I've heard so many "real" endings that it's just pointless.  Most people seem to agree that what we got was much better then what we could have gotten anyway.

 

The ending were you had to choose between "Let the Reaper's Harvest because a bigger threat is coming" and "Kill them and hope for the best" was rather flimsy (with even less choices for the user) and being indoctrinated is just a horrible concept as again, it makes choices not matter.

Bioware did say they did the ending in such a way as to allow us to make of it what we will. Some of us choose Indoctrination Theory.
