In the middle of playing DA:! and having a blast. A huge world, great story telling, wonderful writing, and that overall immersive experience I love from Bioware.

I'm a bigger fan of ME than I am of DA, though. Like everyone else, I've been eagerly awaiting news of ME 4. Having played the new DA, it strikes me that the new ME game will have some similarities to this: vast canvas to explore, lots of characters to interact with, personal and strategic combat.

No, Bioware isn't going to reskin DA to be ME. But I think the scope of DA gives a general idea of how ME will play out.

Thoughts?

I think ME:Next will be quite heavily influenced by DA:I. Won't say that it makes me very optimistic though (not pessimistic either). The game has some points that I like and some points I dislike (at least, judging by videos, didn't play it myself).

What I like is how companions are written, how Bioware finally stopped using underwear sex scenes, beautiful environments, crafting system

What I don't like is static non-cinematic dialogues, focus on the rule of cool rather than combat effectiveness, disregarding previous games to fit a gameplay mechanic (lack of healing spells) and (which I only heard of) outleveling zones rendering them useless.

I'm also not optimistic about bugs and console-focused controls.

They are both on Frostbite 3, so similarities are inevitable. As far as scope and scale are concerned, BioWare has repeatedly talked about the Mako and exploration. If that's not a clue the world will be more open world, then I don't know what is. DAI certainly didn't do everything right, and hopefully Montreal can take that feedback and use it to improve NME's experience.

ME4 having DA:I's bafflingly stiff animations is not something I would call promising.

DAI is not only BW's first game with Frostbite engine, it is also their first next gen game.

They definitely will take DAI as starting point for ME4 but further improve it.

Or more like: They have to. DAI graphics aren't really that impressive, the PC version is almost disappointing and it's controls outright terrible. Much room for improvement but Bioware sure knows where to polish and tune by now.

Storyline first then gameplay mechanics, if theres time slap some make up on it,  just get the first two right and I'll by it!

Always remember!  "You don't look at the mantlepiece while they are stoking the fire" :P

I'm looking forward to seeing Mass Effect 4 in the Frostbite 3 engine if its being used, some of the environments in DA:I looks amazing.

Yea, but DAI ending still sucks ass and this thing they were talking about is funny. "To complete the game completely you will need about 150 hours. 50 for main story and 100 for side quests." And what it really means? The story is about 15 hours long and the "sidequests" are about 100 hours BUT they are all the same: collect 64755645 shards, collect 48 books, close 3 rifts, kill 10 wolves. I mean WTF is this MMORPG or Dragon fuc***g Age?

ME devs said ME4 will look visually one generation ahead over DAI. And I hope scope is much grander then DAI, since I didnt feel ANY scope in DAI

ME3 Omega and ME3 mp have shown that BW Montreal are certified master level programmers when it comes to tangible gameplay mechanics like graphics, sound and controls.

I just hope that they can transfer all of that mastery to the Frostbite engine because BW Edmonton couldn't pull it off so I know it won't be easy.

It will be heavily influenced by DA:I and in that E3 sneak peek it looked very much like DA:I in its rendereing and even reused some assets... but: I think as with ME3 the final product will look a lot different. Until 2012 most showcases of ME3 were using the ME2 rendering and lighting. The final game had a completely different color and tone.

DA combat and graphics have always been pretty lame, in my opinion. Sadly, DAI not only continued this, but made it worse by making a story-driven RPG into an open-world grind.

Mass Effect, on the other hand, found a recipe for great gameplay with ME2, and made it even better with ME3. I got the feeling that they realize there's no reason to abandon that great gameplay. One of the few comments we've received basically said that the gameplay will be very familiar. As long as they continue to tweak and improve, the gameplay should be good.

I'm a console gamer and love ME combat. The PC crowd seems to equally enjoy it. DA has never achieved this, in my opinion. It's dated visuals, animations and gameplay are all hurdles that ME has long since left behind. They are very different games, for which I'm grateful. If DA were my IP, it would combat-wise become medieval fantasy Mass Effect, wailing and moaning of the masses be damned. Diluting the story by spreading it across an open-world put too much pressure on the IP's weak points: combat mechanics and character animations.

Mass Effect and the vastness of the Milky Way galaxy make for a much better open-world canvass than Thedas, in my mind. Mass Effect has the mechanics (and hopefully animations) to keep the open-world from becoming a grind. At least, that's what I hope.

The real question is whether BioWare finally finds someone who can make lifelike hair? My BioWare avatars always seem to be wearing horrible plastic helmets in lieu of hair. ;)
