Installation Failed!

The installation of Mass Effect 2 has failed.
A required Setup file is missing [Z:\\\\\\\\data\\\\\\\\english.rar]

I see the file it needs on the second cd, but it never prompts me to swap.

just closes the install with no back button or recourse.

ive rebooted and tried again 7 times now

*********************************SOLVED****************************
IF THIS WORKS FOR YOU PLEASE POST A THANX TO KEEP IT BUMPED!

Odds are you dont even need an external HD, but I used one cause i only could free up 15 gigs on my PC

I copyed the first CD contents to an external HD into a folder i named masseffect2

then i carefully copied the contents of the second CD into that same directory

make
sure you go into the data folder and then into the autorun folder and
copy these contents so you dont just overwrite the folder

then i just copied everything else in the data folder over. overwriting any duplicates.

then just go back and double click on the setup

Step by step:

1. Copy ME Disc 1 using an image burner (used Daemon Tools Lite and saved it as a .ISO not .mds)

2.
Finish copying Disc 1 and then repeat the process for Disc 2 (my disc 2
appeared to quit at about 50%, and disc 1 was only about 2.67 gigs big).

3.
Virtually mount Disc 1 (using Daemon) and let it install, leaving Disc
2 inside the tray after burning (I can't say if you should or shouldn't
burn disc 2, but mine was in the tray and I did not have to mount the
.ISO from disc 2 so you do the math).

4. It should run through, no disc swaps.
5. After install put in Disc 1 and play. Confirmed. No errors. Succesfully connected to cerberus network and started game.

Daemon tools download here - http://www.disk-tool...download/daemon
For
info on how to copy and mount images look it up on the site. I did not
purchase Daemon tools, shouldn't need to purchase and I trust this
software (have had it for over a year and worked on my XP).
I am running windows vista ultimate, crappy hardware stuff.

Use this! Much easier than going through one by one!

******* EDIT*******
Certainly go ahead and try these methods if your having these problems, but remember, if you cant even copy the files off your CD's  without getting an error, none of this will help you.

Im starting to see a trend

I think Bioware skimped on the quality of thier DVD's or quality of the burning software ie: burn speeds, etc

People are getting errors all over the board, different files etc but it all seems to boil down to bad discs

Since MANY people are confirmed able to install fine off the DVD's

I think the best solution is probably to just go back to your store and exchange

You could probably just manually extract the rar file into the Mass Effect 2 installation directory.

This is just terrible. I've spent an hour and a half extracting .rar files into the proper places. Only to get "PhysX" failure or something like that. I can't do a repair install or anything. Here's to spending 50 bucks on a real nice game. I should've illegally downloaded, I hear they have NO problems. *sigh*

There is a PhysX installer on one of the disks.

Edit: In the software folder on disk 1 there is a PhysX installer, run that.

Couldn't find it in time. I assumed since I had unzipped everything to its proper place that it'd go through. I was wrong. It erased all of the unzipped items, and I'm not doing that again. I booted in safemode and tried that. Didn't work, same problem with disc 2. Then I booted my linux partition to see if I could get Wine to install it in the right place, of course that failed.

Now I'm copying the images and going to try and do a virtual install and hopefully that'll conquer the disc 2 error.

This is the link I first used to know where everything unzipped went - http://meforums.biow...31883&forum=127

Nothing about PhysX failure, but assuming that's the only thing I missed people could try that. This sucks.

Edit: Also I did not see a "repair" option that they were talking about in the manual install guide.

You don't need to do a virtual install, just manually extract the missing files from the RARs on the disk to the proper locations on your hard drive.

Virtual install seems to be easier. I'll let you know what happens after Disc 2 finishes copying... I'm not going to go through every damn folder again, sorry.

Edit: At least not tonight, no way in hell.

Yea, same here. Copying the disks and doing a virtual install is working. My god! haha I walked away and walked back, it didn't even ask to swap discs. I have both 1 and 2 copied, but 2 is still in the tray. I mounted the first disc virtually and well... So far so good.

Only help about wrong keys I can offer is to make sure you have everything right. I know my redeem for cerberus wasn't working because the "G" looks exactly like a "6" on the card..

and yay! lyssol I'm a little over halfway, you can open it and hit any key to continue and all that?

If that's the case we should suggest copying and virtually installing. Daemon tools worked just fine for me in doing that. As long as you have a valid CD-Key I suppose it'll work.

4. It should run through, no disc swaps.

It's confirmed so far.

in torrins instructions. once you have the image made of the first cd. just left click on deamon tools icon at the bottem right of your screen and then click mount image. then browse to the location of the saved first disk image.

I did the workaround using Daemon Tools, and it worked perfectly. Thank you guys so much.
