Confirmed the virtual install, it works HORRAY! Used alcohol 120 to create .iso's, then deamon tools to run the first disk. If you leave the second disk in your cd try, it will auto run and not ask you to insert a new disk.
the installation of mass effect 2 has failed **** SOLVED*****

I wonder. Is just this an isolated incident, that is only affecting a few people? Or are all the PC's install CD's messed up like this?
If its the later, maybe this should be sticky'ed or an official response be made.

I've tried installing with cd1 mounted with daemon tools but I'm still getting Installation Failed. It runs through without prompting for a cd swap like torrin described. My error doesn't specify the actual reason though it just says "Unable to find a data file, or disc has been removed."

It turns out my cd2 is just bad. I tried copying its content but had a read error and tried creating an image off of it and it tells me it has a bad block. When i took a look at the cd there was actually smears and scratches on it... I just took it out of the box brand new half an hour ago.
Unbelievable
Now I'm getting the torrent of cd2. I probably would have been better off just downloading it in the first place >

lol thanks I didn't even think about it till I read your post. I went to the store and exchanged it and when I opened the exchanged copy, i **** you not, there was adhesive material stuck to the edge of disc 2 but thankfully it installed ok. Whoever packaged this batch that went to my gamestop needs to be fired.

Nice, I waited 30 minutes in queue for chat support. It suddenly went from 7 in the queue with a wait time of 1 minute to "your support request has been canceled." Now I get to start again!
Your position in the queue: 257. Estimated wait: 29 minutes, 48 seconds.
Please wait while your queue position is calculated...

I didn't have any problems with installation, just the Cerberus Network.

im still having problem installing mine. both discs are fine i can copy and do whatever with them however my installer is still getting data error's havent tried the virtual drive yet, i have reservations about those. but ive tried lyssols method and im not sure if i did it right.
i copied all the files from the first disc into a folder Mass Effect 2, then i threw all the files from the second disc into the same folder and im still getting problems, although i am farther that i was before in the installation.

I put in disc 2 and press retry but doesn't do anything.

ok it seems that when i try to copy disc 1 i get an error. I am using poweriso, i'm not positive if i am doing it correctly but since my disc drive won't even read my dvd, wouldn't it not read it to copy it either? Sigh, this is frustrating

yeah if your getting errors simply copying the files to the computer. then the disc is bad.
Im starting to see a trend
I think Bioware skimped on the quality of thier DVD's or quality of the burning software ie: burn speeds, etc
People are getting errors all over the board, different files etc but it all seems to boil down to bad discs
Since MANY people are confirmed able to install fine off the DVD's
I think the best solution is probably to just go back to your store and exchange

Made it past the disc swap using the above method. Used Power ISO instead of daemon.

I had the same problem and this worked for me. Thanks so much, I was ready to snap my discs in half and just torrent this hah. Its kind of ridiculous something like this happens when you pay 50 bucks for a game and the pirates get it to work no problems. Eh....

This sort of bull**** shouldn't happen in this day and age especially from such a large publisher and experienced developer.
I followed lyssol's instructions though all you have to worry about from Disk 2 are the files in the Data folder EXCEPT for the autorun directory. Remember, the disk is setup with a basic launcher/autorun so it can tell you to put disk 1 in. I love that.
What I did was just copied all items in the Data directory (select all) except the autorun directory (control-click that sucker out of the list) and clicked No when Windows asked if I wanted to replace any existing files. You could just try the overwrite option to save yourself some clicking...I have a feeling it won't matter.
Run the Setup.exe and let 'er rip. I'm glad I got this thing discounted down with some promotional credits...paying $60 for this sort of amateur development mistake is ridiculous. Probably should check the Cerberus stuff...maybe they put a wet towel in there instead of the actual card...

This is frustrating.
Trying to image disc 2 : hit a bad (unrecoverable) block.
Back to the store I go.

Ok, so I went back to the store, and of the new package, this disc 2 is even worse than the first one, this one will only read maybe 1/4 of the time I put it into the drive. I'm trying to copy the entire disc, it won't even begin to image in daemontools (I'm no stranger to it). Jesus, this is terrible.
