you cant just grab the second cd and paste it into the folder.

you will just overwrite the other files. you acctually need to go into each folder of the second cd and copy the files into the same folder location in the main folder.

Alright guys, try this one on for size, my computer will just get data errors randomly, sometimes disc 1, sometimes disc 2 but always before I finish, which, of course erases all the progress installing the game I've made so far, I have tried making ISOs of the discs, but that doesn't seem to actually solve the issue. I have even tried manually extracting the .rar files onto a folder in my computer, which almost works, but the menus are bugged up and the game crashes right before what I assume is the character editor, any further ideas would be appreciated.

while iso's should work, if they didnt then try the way I did it.

Dont try extracting all the rar's that will just drive you nutz

just make a folder and paste all of the first cd into it

then go onto the second cd and carefully paste the data folder contents into the same data folder you created when you copied the first cd.

then when you install it should work.

so paste ALL the files of the 1st cd into the folder, but ONLY the stuff in the data folder on the second disk? Then what do you do? Do you take the cd's out and run from autorun in the folder or do you leave the CD in?

well lyssol, I guess I should thank you. It kind of works, its the farthest I've gotten so far, but it still ends with "data error" around 11%. Also, when I try to open the english.rar with winRAR it says "unexpected break in archive"...so I think the disk may be corrupted. But that wouldn't make sense, because I exchanged my game for a new one, and BOTH of the second CD'S have the same corruption?? I'm sure ME2 is a great game, I just wish I could play it.

The workaround using Daemon seems to have worked. Thank you so much!

Strangely using an .iso of disk 1 with disk 2 in the drive didn't work for me, but wanting to try it before I used both disk 1 and disk 2 .iso files I tried physical disk 1 in drive with disk 2 .iso mounted in the virtual drive and that worked like a charm.

So I guess my problem is that my disk is corrupted so nothing will work....has anyone else had this problem?

I'll try to post my own issue here with the hope that maybe someone can identify the problem:

I can't install ME 2 at all. I am running Vista Ultimate 64 bit on a single 2 TB HD with no partitions. Each time I try to install, it gets to exactly 13% and stops. It gives the Failed to install, not enough disk space error. I have 1.5 TB free....what the heck do I do now?

I run setup as admin. Turned off user account controls. Install to a different directory...what can I do?

Grand, apparently a lot of discs are getting returned. Bioware may have skipped quality control and pushed the DVDs out with poorly burned images and other issues. Like lyssol and I both have said, if you can't even copy everything from the disc or image the disc, it's a quality control issue.

Kohort I haven't seen that "not enough disc space" error, maybe try freeing up ALL the ram you got (close all programs that aren't needed) and try then. If that fails try my way or lyssol's way.. Beyond that can't really help.

I started my own thread on this, but I'm getting the dreaded "data error" during installation on my Windows 7, 64 rig. To test the quality of the disks, I installed the game on a Vista laptop and it worked fine. So I'm not sure what to do. I could exchange the game, but if it installs on my laptop, it seems like it should work.

Well torrin, I'm glad its not just me. I ended up trading it in for a new copy three times at Gamestop, gave up, and now am downloading from Steam, hopefully that'll work. XD

seems like im in the same boat as some of you, i have taken lyssols way and copied both cd files into 1 folder, excluding the 'autorun' folder from disk data folder 2 and the files outside of disk 2's data folder. I have then tried installing from the setup file but i still get that request to enter disk 2 which doesnt go away. Before i tried this way i decided to change to .isos and using daemon i mounted both cds which true it did get rid of the message from coming up but it is here when the data failure error appears when its near the end. Any ideas anyone?

rich ....some people with your particular problem had success with keeping the first disc in and iso'ing the second CD then.

Jesus christ, this kinda stuff shouldn't happen with a game that costs 50 euros. My Disc 2 has a bad block too, gonna return tomorrow.

Wow!!! I am having Disc problems too! In a weird way....Hope this helps others..

My Computer is Brand new (1 month old) I have never had any problems reading DVD's till Dragon Age Disc 2 - 9x.1 % and Mass Effect 2 Disc 2 - 94.1 %!! How weird is that?! They were both in 90 %'s!! (oddly both Bioware games!) I have had no problems with any other Game from EA or DVD's/CD's

When i tried to Install Dragon Age a month ago and got the "No Data found or Disc removed Error (When i knew on my old computer it worked!) Luckily i had a Spare DVD Drive (Of my old computer) So i put it in and Bam! Dragon Age installed perfectly on my new computer, never gave it any other thought or had any problems with others and put my old DVD Drive back in(Stupid idea)....

I just purchased Mass Effect 2 Collector's Edition , Disc 1 Went fine and omg i get the same error as Dragon Age again on Disc 2!! 94 % It gives me unable to read data or disc removed error again, this time i dont have a Spare DVD drive to swap back in as i sold my old PC.

I tried to copy the files to the Hardrive to test the DVD and it failed again, so i thought my Disc 2 was damaged, but thought it was odd that Dragon Age, and Bioware and same issue, so i used my laptop (Not good enough to play) To copy Disc 2 to it's hardrive and it worked!!

So the problem is my DVD drive just does not like Bioware's DVD's or something, Its weird cause i have HAD NO OTHER Problem with an EA Game or Other DVD's but these two titles, Both Bioware, My drive is a Samsung SHS223C

My advice for others getting Disc errors is to check on another computer first, and any ideas on how i can make a copy for Disc 2 using Daemon tools on another computer so i can isntall it on this one? I really dont wanna have to take Collectors edition back, they have sold out and i personally dont think it is gonna fix this problem

How about burning the disk 2 iso to a Dual Layer dvd then when you go on your other computer you could just rip the .iso off of the disk with either Daemon or MagicDisk (for MagicDisk which is freeware, its the Make CD/DVD image).

OMG I have been trying for 1 month to get ME to install since I upgraded to 64bit Win7 and I kept getting data errors. Tried epanding the .rar file which worked in vista (dual boot) but not Win 7 but then I found this post and followed the instructions. Still got data errors during install on disk 2 but I think that was it asked for disk 2(I hadn't mounted the iso for this) but I have just tried it in Win7 and there was an install success notice. Fingers crossed it runs.

after searching the dialog.rar directory on disk 2 i have found that it is the following file that is probably causing the error due to it being corrupt :/:

E:\\data\\dialog.rar: CRC failed in BioGame\\CookedPC\\BioD_Nor_101cockpit.pcc. The file is corrupt

do ya think i could replace it with a duplicate that isn't corrupt?
