Am I the only one that does not think they were godlike?

Even Flemeth...who was defeated by the warden, only came back to life because Hawke kept his/her word. While Solas is about as powerful as Viviene or Dorian, hardly godlike. Corpheus got beat up by Hawke and crew

Even Dragonlance gods have planet busting power.

But in this game they are less gods and more just....beings.

You're not the only one. Not even Solas seems to believe in his own divinity. :P

Cassandra: Solas, if you do not mind me asking, what do you believe in?

Solas: Cause and effect. Wisdom as its own reward, and the inherent right of all free willed people to exist

Caasndra: That is not what I meant

Solas: I know. I believe the elven gods existed, as did the old gods of Tevinter. But I do not think any of them were gods, unless you expand the definition of the word to the point of absurdity. I appreciate the idea of your Maker, a god that does not need to prove his power. I wish more such gods felt the same

Cassandra: You have seen much sadness in your journeys, Solas. Following the Maker might offer some hope.

Solas: I have people, Seeker. The greatest triumphs and tragedies this world has known can all be traced to people.

Listen to Solas talk about the Elven Gods. You will find out they where in fact Super Powerful Mages. Granted you can easily miss that since it's Banter in the Temple.

If a so-called God can trapped or killed then its not really a God in the first place. Being immortal and completely unstoppable is kind of why people worship them in the first place.

"Solas: I have people, Seeker. The greatest triumphs and tragedies this world has known can all be traced to people." Great quote. Too bad Cassandra will probably never truly understand it. :(

I have a different perspective, they are gods or goddesses. Of course I am also a polytheist IRL. To answer your question you need to define what makes a god or goddess?

For instance in hellenismos(greek Polytheism) there are Nymphs which are spirits of local natural features. Many of them are just for local regions, ie mountains or rivers. Yet these local nature spirits are not anywhere near as powerful as the more famous olympians. That does not mean that they are not divine, and thus to me anyways if I am in a place that they are a part of then i make sure to also honor them in my offerings, prayers and activities.

I bring this up because the elven faith has always seemed more like polytheistic deities then others. If the elven gods were powerful mages, with unique magic. What prevents them from being consdered gods or goddesses?

P.S: why do you not talk about the Avvar Gods and goddesses :P

Hephaestes, Athena, Buddha, Jesus...or in the context of the game Andraste would like a word with you.  I mean I think I get your point - that if it can be trapped or killed then it isn't a god.  But your second point basically points out most of the religions in Thedas.  With the exception of Andraste and the Qun, most Thedan religions have gods which were quite clearly worshipped because their adherents believed them to have the traits you highlighted.  However, they were also just as clearly NOT those things, and yet many are still worshipped.

I don't thik that Fen'Harel is actually a spirit, nor ever was. Fen'Harel, according to legend, was not considered part of the Elven pantheon, nor part of the forgotten ones, so to me that means he was just a very powerful elf (Solas), which in time became legend, and then diefied.

I think the point is missed. If you went back in time with a tablet and antibiotics and did "amazing" things with them people would have probably announced you a god of some sort. Lore over time has a way of being distorted, maybe to the ancient elves, their gods were really just rulers, this is also mentioned in the temple as a possibility. If there is one real god it would have to be the Maker assuming he actually exists. The elven and Tevinter gods would probably be more like demi-gods than real actual gods.

Weren't the old gods of Tevinter just dragons? That doesn't really constitute a god in my eyes. Though personally I think Solas was holding back in combat so that he didn't seem suspiciously overpowerful.

Theres a few places where cole brings up very old things and solas quickly diminishes them, especially where he talks about an old foolish mistake to save his friends....  I.E. separating the gods, and possibly creating the veil....  Dorian also makes a mention in his banter about the orbs being found throughout tevinter lore pre blight
