Not sure where to post this, but as this is combat related...

I am having a fairly big issue where my 1 warrior tank, well specifically Iron Bull, is not using any of his aggro-attracting skills.... even with 100% stamina. Am I the only one? Or just not doing something right?

Note - this is on Normal, not hard/NM... and have no interest in anything harder than Normal, as I don't feel like trying to micro-manage my characters (and I personally find Normal hard enough).

I have him setup as a SnS warrior with both Challenge and WarCry, with them both set as "preferred" which to me should mean he'll use them whenever they are off cd and he has stamina right?

Problem is - he doesn't. I've seen him wailing on enemies, no barrier, no guard... and enemies starting to head towards the rest of the party. I pause and switch to him and see that both warcry & challenge are sitting there ready to be used, along with shield bash, and he's on 100% stamina... but has just been auto-attacking. I have to manually get him to use them.

I have to say, I don't recall Cassandra having these issue's... but it's been awhile since I've used her. And frankly, next time I play I'm gonna ditch Iron Bull... cuz even though I find his intra-party banter amusing, and the whole 'look' of quanari melee tanking... his AI is absolutely 100% useless as a tank as he seems to hardly ever use any of his abilities.

What I am wondering about is - does anyone know if each companion has AI that has preference for a specific type of fighting (ie Iron Bull for 2-handed, Cassandra for SnS, etc), or have I just been hugely unlucky with Iron Bull's tanking?

My Companion AI for all characters is set to on, set to use stamina/mana until down to 20%, use potions when under 30% health & keep 2 potions. They are also all on follow / controlled character - I find if I try and set anything else there's too many times when one, or more, ai controlled group members just stand around doing nothing because the conditions aren't met fully.

I generally set the tank to follow himself, targeting-wise, with only the taunts and something like shield wall set to preferred. I think the ai is the same under the hood, but I couldn't prove it.

From what I've seen they won't taunt until the mob actually attacks and does damage to someone else.

Thank you for the replies.

1 thing I have found is if I press"y" for group attacking my target, it seems to nudge Iron Bull into actually attacking and using skills more often. Although I have seen him use Challenge on an enemy and then just stand still... so looks like his pathing AI is going wonky at times for me.

I will try tinkering with the defend/follow settings... thanx for the link HooDooMagics. Might be just what I need to help sort matters out.
