We know now that despite how mysterious and sinister Morrigan seems to us she is always honest and usually truthful.

Leliana seemed trustworthy and virtuous when she introduced herself to us in Origins, and she had the appearance of a nun or something.

Then we played her DLC quest... hmmmm.. It raised a few questions. But then we thought, "Nah, it was all in the past, and as she told us at the campsite, she has changed her ways completely."

But in this game... holy ssshhhhh. You can't take the gangsta out of the girl.

It's so funny to me that in the end Lel is more devious and deceptive than Morrigan, despite their appearances when we first met both of them.

How many times did Lel warn us about Morrigan in Origins? Maybe Morrigan should have been afraid of HER. Hahaha.

You can return Leliana to her Origins self with the right choices.

Why bother? She needs to be vindicated in the blood of her enemies!

Yeah it felt like the writers took liberties and automatically assumed everyone "hardened" Leliana,

Justinia dying did that for her. Hardened Leliana in DA:O still isn't on the same level as DA:I Leliana.

And, judging by her dialogue, if you have a Warden who romanced her and died, that did it long before Justinia did.

Hardened or not 10 years of spymastering is plenty of time to go full "M" like Leliana has.

She was hardened since DA 2 -_-

I dunno she admits to doing unsavory things while serving the Divine...

I like Leliana and believe she's trying to do good but this game does make me wonder if we really ever knew her in Origins.

I couldn't really tell from the two minutes she spent speaking with a stranger, honestly.

I'm sure the unscrupulous things she had to do with her work began bringing out the bard side of her again either way, but Justinia seems to be what knocked her right over the deep end.

Justinia used her because of her bardic skills. It was part of her life that Leliana had wanted to get away from but Justinia pulled her back in.

Yep, hence Justinia's 'I'm sorry, I failed you too.'

Whole thing is actually pretty bloody sad

I'm not very far into the game but I feel my Leliana began to smile more. I like that she is not creepily bubbly here than she was in Origins, but she does seem different than she was in the beginning of the game. I was nice to her in all our banters and told her people werent disposable, she looked like she was ashamed. Maybe I am changing her..? But OP you are right, Morrigan does seem less vicious than Leliana at the beginning of the game.

It makes sense to me for Leliana to be like that. She's a spymaster. Wouldn't really do for her to be all truthful.

Also- I found Leliana incredibly annoying in DA:O. I love her in this game. Even if I did accidentally turn her into a

They really did turn stereotypes on their head with Morrigan and Leliana.

Morrigan seems like a nasty cynical b*tch, but is really just an abused teenage girl looking to belong in the world, and who lashes out because of frustration that she can't figure out how to do so. If the Warden took the time to work through her issues, and if she had Kieran she becomes a much nicer person.

Leliana seems like a sweet, perky, young woman, who loves fashion and cute animals. But as revealed by her personal quest in Origins, and elaborated on in Leliana's Song and Inquisition, she's actually a cold blooded killer who loves nothing more than the thrill of murder and deception, it's in her nature. Her turn to the chantry allows her to do everything she loves, but justify it because it's for in her eyes a legitimate cause. The Leliana we see in Inquisition is closer to her true self than the one in Origins.

Not really a surprise though.

Some people just have a hard time accepting that Ms. look at the pretty colors was actually Ms. stabbity stab kill kill. Leliana was and will always be a cold-blooded assassin without the Inquisitor's intervention. Playing it off through a facade of cute innocence is part of her training.

Morrigan is and has always been brutally honest. She often obfuscates the truth so that she doesn't have to lie or be annoyingly vague like her mother.

How? Which choices determine this, because it certainly isn't the one during her personal quest... >_>

Yes it is...

Don't let her kill Sister Natalie in the Chantry. Also picking supportive and "don't go on a killing spree" dialogue options throughout the game helps.

I was a mild mannered, I believe/no blood spilled, type of Herald so that's what ended up happening with her for me.

Yeah, it was definitely like this from Origins.  The rude character is actually the innocent one (if shady) and the warm character is very much not innocent.

I told her not to kill Natalie. She said, "no, I have to be ruthless", and did it anyway.

Which is why I asked, because I can't think of any time i led by a vicious example... figure it's probably something obscure.
