The funny thing is that Robyn Addison (Sera's VA) IS British.
never said she wasn't, I've been accused of putting on an American accent before, despite being from the heart of Dixie

I honestly wasn't attempting to throw anyone under a bus.
Looking to the past does not necessarily mean being stuck there, no, but it can. In my opinion, the Dalish do seem stuck. They care about the future of their people, certainly. I haven't and wouldn't try to dispute that. However, their vision of that future is to bring back their former glory. And in attempting to hold on to that past, they've driven themselves into a position where they have very limited options (as you describe). According to their versions of history, they largely blame humans for this, but in reality are just as accountable, if not more so. It's tragic, really.
Trust me, I don't see the elves as innocent victims by any means, but I don't think there is anything wrong with that in particular, it's not a destructive desire. It is ignorance though, believing all human kingdoms will fall and that they could just reclaim what was lost. I'm sure with the fall of those human kingdoms will also come the fall of the city elves who rely, however little, on those human kingdoms to survive. And if any human kingdoms fall the Qunari are more likely to step up if anyone were to. I agree, it is tragic.
What I don't get is what do some people here expect of the Dalish that would make them conclude that Sera's thinking is correct. What on earth would the Dalish gain by tossing their culture in the garbage to assimilate into human society? Their Keepers would be thrown into Circles, they would worship a religion that does not want them, lose whatever culture they have left in exchange for a culture that does not want them, they'll live in filth, and be at the whims of humans and not just nobles. I see far more loss than gain.
I don't hate Sera, more like disappointed in her character development. After the roof top cookie talk I can understand where she is coming from but that does not justified what happen at Verchiel.
All her personal quest leads to no further character development, she remains as someone who doesn't care about anything but her own self, who resents making sense or any growth. Indeed, Sera is never a agreeable girl, she is like a selfish child who is forever stuck in a tantrum state.
I really like Jack in the Mass Effect series, her cross game character development was great. Too bad Lukas Kristjanson didn't give Sera the same treatment in DA:I.
Eh maybe I'm giving her character too much credit, but she has never struck me as being someone who cares only for herself. She's not your cliche do-gooder character that's out there fighting for the rights of the downtrodden folk of Thedas. She's doing what she can wherever she can for those who ask, no matter how small or big the impact could be. The small things matter . . which seems to be the theme of Red Jenny.
As for her character development, I don't think it's such a horrible thing that it doesn't conform to the players image of what her character development should be. BioWare seem to be trying to make the characters and their relationships as realistic as possible. Realistically, not everyone is willing to change their view of the world for your approval, despite how hard you may try. Does it make her unlikable? Maybe for some. Does it make her a bad character? Not at all. It is what it is.
Ah I would never argue Sera was a bad character. Really I don't see many bad BW characters.
She's just..bleh for me.
But now I know Assquisitor can be a douchecanoe right back I'm far more okay with it.

To be fair, there's a scary amount of britain inside of british.
Not Lord British, that's someone else entirely.
Not saying there isn't, necessarily, a scary amount of britain *inside* of Lord British, just that it isn't required.
It's like they have Boston right next to Dallas ... how can that go wrong? Except for beltbuckles, beltbuckles are champion.
Also, if I have her *not* prank:
1) My templar commander trying to kick the lyrium habit
2) My disney princess diplomat (c'mon, it's like kicking a puppy, by Andraste's scorched naughty bits)
3) My psychotic spymaster whom I'm trying to de-harden from, like, all my DAO playthroughs
Can I recover with enough cookies?
It's because she has a very hard working-class English accent, and it's ruining the fantasy of a lot of people (the fantasy that all British accents sound similar and are all beautiful). Then there is the fact that she is a sociopath, and lots of people can't get past that.
I, for one, think that Sera is adorably random.

Has he made up with Lord Scottish? Last I heard, they had a spat.

<le snip>.
Yah, I've done the pranks before, hence the provided details. ![]()
Despite the writer saying "These are awesome!" I ... don't find them awesome.
I've been pranked, watched pranks, and pranked ... it's generally done for petty revenge by the instigator, if not the executor.
So (because I've already said 'hence' once), question if it's on primary relationship path or just an approval builder.
How was Nutcracker?
Has he made up with Lord Scottish? Last I heard, they had a spat.
Lord British is ... oh, nevermind, you scamp! Run along and play! ![]()

So, question.
I've never not done them, so far, so I don't know for sure. If you're on a roll with the Red Jenny missions, likely so.
Thanks for having a go at it anyways...almost out of the Hinterlands.
This round it's Templars (first for me).
Wish us luck! ![]()

Good luck, the Templars are a pain in the arse.
I won't start it until we both have Stealth Strike, so we can duo introduce them to the wonders of constructive dentistry.

every British person I know has said she sounds like an actress putting on a bad accent....
just throwing that out there
I was skeptical about Sera in the start, now? She's my favorite character.
I think there's the opinion that she's a sociopath. One I disagree with: quite strongly, in fact.
I don't think we've yet to get a companion in the Dragon Age series that I could honestly describe to be a sociopath, not even the very morally ambiguous Morrigan in Origins. Sociopaths go far beyond what any of these characters exhibit. Even the characters that kill for money seem to have some kind of moral standard, and seem to care about the welfare of people in general (which, ironically, Morrigan seems to exhibit the least concern of the lot yet is beloved by many). Sera is no worse than, say, Zevran, or Sten, or Morrigan for that matter.

I doubt that person at school would object to opting out of killing a tower full of people, including children...or at least one would hope.

Oh man Morrigan had so many stupid evil moments in origins. I just shook my head and tuned her out after a while.

Heh, well a lot of things are easy to overlook when they're presented in a more alluring package. If a character can, with cool confidence and amusing indifference, object to avoiding massacring a swath of innocent people, being charitable, or promising to save some poor guy's lost daughter, we will probably love him/her XD
Sera's worst enemy is her fans.

Replace Sera with BioWare and it'd be right on the nose.
I loved her. Reminded me of a scared and confused little girl who was forced to rely on herself. Her being "closed minded" is just fine with me, after all she is a Lesbian and all of them are close minded (sarcasm if you couldn't tell).
I never laughed so hard or been so close to crying when she opened her mouth. Perfect character for me.
10/10

Evidently, the adult is DG.
I love her. Her and Iron Bull are the only real standout characters, personality-wise. I was so thankful to meet her because the others characters were so damn bland... Of course, My Qunari made her leave after she offed somebody without his permission.
