The BEST banter is with her and Dorian about magic.  I hurt laughing so hard!

7:24

  :D

Well, at least I want to be familiar with Dorian's tool *too off-topic...*

This banter really shows her innocent stupidity and naivete in some ways.On the outiside she might be vulgar and aggressive, but on the inside she is sweet and insecure.

I really like Sera as a friend, because I understand her.

She is a psychopath with no character development....

Sera is like Jack / Subject Zero with no character development or character arc...

I don't have DAI. but I don't think you know how to use Psychopath.  Neither Sera or Jack are psychopaths, given that they are willing to help you with your mission in their respective games.

If either of them were psychopaths, they will never join you due to they rather preserve their own asses by any means including siding with Demons or Collector if it comes to it. Also they would have little interest in helping your character out if pressed.

This is really what got me to like Sera and where it all clicked for me:

Sera: You know, you shouldn't make fun of people just because they're scared of magic and you can scare them back.

Cassandra: I take it you think I'm frightening?

Sera: Not naked. You're well fit, but you're all armored up and fierce. What do you think some stable boy sees?

Cassandra: A Seeker on the side of righteousness.

Sera: Here's what I learned in the alleys: "Aaaaaugh, Mages! Aaaaaugh, Templars! Aaaaaugh, Tevinters! Aaaaaugh, hungry!" When you're little, everything is "Aaaaaugh"

I still find it funny how many people detest Sera for not changing her views for the PC's benefit, she's there to pretty much represent the common view on things, is likely that most peasants in Thedas have similar views about things

She calls them stupid beacuse she doesn't know how to outwit them since she doesn't think she is smart enough to rationally debate with them. She isn't confident in her own intelligence and generally thinks sofisticated words and arguments are mostly lies, and she is right. Her beliefs are threatened and she feels too vunerable without her beliefs so she defends herself with profanity and by calling others stupid. It is a self-defense mechanism to protect her own insecurities.

I think it's innocent in it's own way and kind of cute (nohetero).

i think we are all well aware of how insecure she is and that some of her boasting and posturing is based on insecurity, but its very obvious that she has an inflated and deluded self-image and is very good at rationalising to herself, something that the inq even has an option to point out to her. She also suffers from internalized racism. Ya i get it, you dont want to be "elfy" but even suggesting she is an elf or not even anything related to her when you talk to somebody else or make choices for elven rights she gives you major disapproval, and yes i have seen that pathetic cookie scene, but the reasons for her behavior are so ridiculous, that she comes across as even more of a child afterwards.

uuuuhuuuh, have we been playing the same games, or reading the same books? because none of the characters ive come across act like an emotionally stunted and intellectually disabled brat , not even the "peasants".  Its not her views that are the problem its the way she handles said views and treats the people in her vicinity. Look at mother Giselle or Cassandra, they are both faithful andrastians and frequentlly and forcefully talk about it, but they are able to accept other people's boundaries, so no having "common" views doesnt excuse your "behavior" in enacting said views.

How many choices for elven rights are even in this game? The most I can remember is Briala, but Briala is a snake like the rest of them. She seems to have no problem with you helping random elves throughout the game.

Not to mention she also calls herself stupid in some scenes (romanced Sera opens more to you tbh). That means she thinks she's stupid and she knows she isn't that intelligent because of what you said exactly.

Kinda sad to think how low she thinks of herself since she can be pretty on spot with many things.

have you read the masked empire? She is very very passionate about helping her people, thats all she lives for, in the book. Every choice she made, every alliance she made/and ended up breaking was for the betterment of her people. She risked her life and did her outmost, she was pushing  and pushing celene to give the elves increased rights, eventually she broke it off with celene when she realised that she would never give her people the freedom or the rights they deserved, Does that sound like a snake?`thanks to her elves were admitted to universities and allowed to trade in the upper cities, were given greater respect, and celene even went to a highly esteemed university to chastise them for not accepting a gifted elf ,all on her behalf . bioware did a huge retcon of her character.  Freeing her people, thats all she did and lived for in the book. She could have lived the good life and just accepted being Celenes "pet" but she never did, because of her ideals, her passion and ultimate goal.

I've read the book. Unfortunately, neither the Inquisitor or Sera did the same. Basically, the events therein and the characters' motivations are not something that can be divined by any of these characters, so I must ignore them and judge strictly from what happens in-game.

she was also "very" gutted about Celenes decision to purge that alienage. it put a huge strain on their relationship and Briala didnt let it go. The rebellion started because of a noble killing a popular man in the alienage. Briala pleaded with Celene to let her kill him so she could spare her people and put the rebellion down without harming the alienage. Celene couldnt wait and went ahead and purged it, because of political drama, that i wont get into. Very soon after that they broke up, partially because of  Celenes decision, but bw never mentions that, because they intentionally want everyone to look like a total snake, to make the choices seem more "muddled".

I had the luxury of never reading the book. She is a snake as presented in game. I imagine, in the lull between this game and the next, I may well pick them up, but as it stands right now, all I have to go on is what's presented, and what's presented is that Briala is in it for herself, that what she does may help the elves is a side effect, rather than a goal.

Briala isn't exactly an angel, she cared more about herself getting personal power & getting petty revenge on Celene in the end, even if it ment sacrificing her fellow elves who she claimed to care so much about

Regardless of her motivation, I saw someone who was willing to use her own people to advance herself. She's not exactly the most righteous of freedom fighters. I suppose it's a byproduct of Orlais' crummy political game, but she's just as much a player as the rest of them.

Briala has done far more for "the little people" than Sera ever has, who got her so called "friends" killed, remember? inciting a rebellion she couldnt be bothered to lead or deal with, and is most excited about getting paid for jobs, and doesnt even take responsibility for it. Sounds like Sera is just as fine using others to advance herself, and for petty reasons and even pettier "rewards". What effort apart from idiotic pranks has Sera made to help the "little people"? She sits around comfy in her pajamas, and eventually admits herself she is only in it for herself and wants to earn coin again, while Briala drags herself through every mudpool there is for her people. Her entire life has been in constant danger, Bioware made her look like crap in that one instance, so im giving you the whole picture and now you are coming at me with this bs. Ye, she isnt perfect, and she sent this chick who hated her for being celenes "pet" into a bad situation. The woman didnt even know the whole situation and judged her based on that, so Briala could have possibly seen her as a threat, but she went into that alienage and snuck in together with her people to kill that noble, she took a huge gamble on her own life, something the elven woman never mentioned. The fact that you lied about reading the book to add credibility to yourself, is pretty cute.

Gotta stop you right there; she didn't get anyone killed. She doesn't plant agents like Briala, that's not how Red Jenny works. It works the same way here that it worked in Origins and in DA 2. Only in Origins and DA 2, we're the "Friend" that these people are contacting. People drop hints, knowing that there could be consequences for their actions. This is born out in Sera's little personal quest after the march War Table mission:

You don't have to watch the whole thing to see it, the proof of my statement is in the first minute of the video. They don't know each other. How, exactly, is Sera sending her people to get killed if she doesn't know who they are?

Briala does far more of the heavy-work than her "agents", but either way Sera is only in it for herself, while paying lip service to little people rights. She doesnt make any effort to help anybodies life get better, aside from her own, and she is perfectly fine lazying about in skyhold doing nothing. Her main reason for this red jenny nonsense is because she is too weak and immature to do something and earn her living productively. Its obvious shed never be able to hold any kind of responsibility, so it makes the robbing and the pettiness seem justified when you tie it into a phony little "robin hood" bow.
