Reminds me of Phoebe from friends. Rude character that adds absolutely nothing to the plot.

Cause immaturity is really NOT attractive in any way.   Fart noises stopped being funny at age 12.   She's about as close-minded of an individual as you can possibly get and even puts down or makes fun of anyone or anything that doesn't believe as she does.  She tends to hate all people of a certain class or race based on very arbitrary notions from just a couple examples.   They also didn't bother to write any background for why she may have developed these miserable personality traits so one is left to assume that she is just terrible person.

Navasha, I think Sera is a tad like me.. I never bent to the wills of proper society age bracket behavior teachings and if you don't cave into those teachings you're called immature. I live for me not to please society age bracket rules on what I can and can not do..

I like her myself as I've said many times but she's a wonderfully written character becasue as you can see she elicits more strong opinions both positively and negatively than pretty well any other character in the game.

I particularly like the criticism of her that she 'won't change her mind!'  One of the few non lemming characters in bioware games in which after a few convos Hawke or shep or the warden have not totally changed their companions values.

I found her enjoyable.  I feel like her character helped break up the "save the world" grind.  I wish they would've made her bi-sexual.  She would've been a fun romance for a few of my inquisitors.  Instead I got super cereal Case & super annoying Josephine.

Yeah, I don't get the hate for Sera either. During my first play through I didn't use her much, so was kind of lukewarm about her. However, in this, my second play through, I acquired her at earliest opportunity and have made her a staple party member. She's a hoot and I love her banter with Solas and Blackwall. My Inquisitor is a female elf mage, who's in a relationship with Blackwall. Only yesterday, while running through Exalted Plains, Sera says to Blackwall: "I saw you and the Inquisitor doing it in the loft." Completely cracked me up. :)

Sera has her good points. She's funny, she's quirky, and she lends a voice to the common people of Thedas. She believes the Dalish are supid for trying to cling to the past while living in the woods, thinks of anything remotely related to elvhen culture as "too elfy" and is by and large just the average city girl who sees nothing wrong with living as human. It's a perspective we don't see often, and it is a bit uplifting to see someone so willing to assimilate into human modern thedosian culture so willingly for no other reason than they simply want to. Or were raised that way.

But based her conversations, it seems that she was once a child that was told constantly that she was "wrong" in some ofrm or another. Probably along the lines of she wasn't 'elfy' enough, or that she was 'stupid' for not acting a certain way. A good and "real" backstory that adds a decent amount of character. But she is a character that has yet to develop past them.

All that time being told she's wrong if she didn't conform to their views and now she has grown up to the point where she is desperately insistant that others are "wrong" or "wierd" if they don't conform to her views.

Her conversation after the Temple of Mythal perhaps best demonstrates this. You must conform to her views otherwise she can't be with you romantically. Or if you are her friend, you get massive approval drop. Not even if you do not believe the Creators were legit gods and that you think the Temple might have a bit of historic truth buried in it--you have to admit the temple was full of demons otherwise she becomes distressed with your relationship. Distressed.

Now this would be one thing if it was a romantic relationship, I mean if you don't feel comfortable in it she is more than free to leave it. But she doesn't even try to gain any sort of understanding or unspoken agreement if you were/are her friend. All of your companions were willing to accept, or at least tactfully ignore whatever religious system you may have, but with Sera the mere existence of your faith may distress her even though you may never bring it up.

She is so disturbed that your faith is so different from hers she instantly becomes less comfortable with you. Not because of how it is expressed or how you let it influence your decisions, but because of what you believe. And this is not just applicable with your religious system, it is applicable to how you are born to how you were raised. If your not "normal", your "weird" or "scary". With most of her approval gains being tied to being or becoming "normal" in her eyes.

Perhaps when she is older she will become more mature and thoughtful on the matter. Or at least tactful. A character with her backstory clearly has the potential to be a strong character.

But for right now, she is a child that needs to grow up.

I like her because just like any real person she has flaws.

SWTOR's comp system was ok but companions had crafting bonuses so some people had to pay closer attention to certain comps (maybe even a faction and class alltogether) if they wanted certain crafting bonuses.  And for years companions were locked to trinity roles.  If you wanted to run a tank companion but your favorite comp (personality-wise) was a healer or straight DPS then you were SOL.  If you wanted to run double dps but your favorite comp was a healer you can switch them to dps but they wouldnt do as good as a pure dps comp.  Thankfully they updated the comp system so that now you can take whoever you want with you and you can assign them as a tank, dps or healer.  DAI i think is a step above SWTOR because you have zero companion bonuses so you can take whoever with you that you want.  Once in the Hinterlands i make sure to clear my way to the Crossroads right away so that the quest will update and say go to Val Royeaux.  At the same time i make sure to set up camps or close rifts so that i get 4 power.  Once i do all that and am level 4 i immediately pick Sera up cause she's my favorite comp.

I hope that BW keeps on creating DA companions in the next game that have no passive bonuses that they give you simply for being around or for leveling their affinity.  And make their personality, how they get along with you and other comps and dialogue the only thing that determines who we take with us.

I feel bad for participating in this necro (), but I just want to point out that this is likely true? Danarius used the name Fenris for its Tevene meaning, "little wolf." And since we know that the Fen in Fen'Harel means wolf, I'm pretty sure it's just another linguistic artifact cribbed from the elves. Like a loan word.

Most translations of "fenedhis" have it mean something akin to, ah, wolf crap or wolf...genitalia. Solas, Dorian, and Fenris all use it.

Yeah that makes sense. Although I guess it's also not impossible Solas decided to switch from Elvish to Tevene in that conversation because Sera had been mocking him for speaking it.

Me personally I don't find her attractive because he hates herself as an elf and she talks bad about elves, and the killer part where I took her to the Temple of Mythal she doesn't want to accept her elven heritage. Sad.

Given that "elven heritage" is a combination of dodgy mythology glorifying an oppressive society, and longing for a past that never actually existed, I'm not sure why it's bad to not want anything to do with it....

Sera is one of the few sane elves we meet. She knows that stuff is all crap and wants to build a better world rather than just whining about the past.

Sera ? Build a better world ?

Sera is an immature and childish person who spends her time playing pranks on the nobility. She also reminds me of people who hate themselves, as in they hate the ethnic group or racial group that they are born into. I can understand being indifferent to it but Elven self-hatred is ridiculous, as ridiculous as White self-hatred IRL.

She also does not actually want a better world, she just wants a world that she can live in and perform her trade:- "Got to get things back to normal for coin to flow again."

Finally, a companion that causes more controversy than Loghain!

98 pages, my God.

And she didn't even have to kill an army or sell elves to do that!

I'd never deny that she can be childish, but underneath that exterior, she's one of the few people that seem to recognise the real issues of inequality that plague Thedas and is actively working to address those problems by weakening the corrupt nobility that oppress the rest of society.

And given how stupid elven culture is, I don't see whats wrong with hating it.

I've got news for you:- Her actions do not weaken the nobility, they simply result in annoying the nobility which gets innocents killed, as we see in her personal quest.

At times, yes they do. Other times, based on things like her war table missions, and hell, even her introduction, her actions do harm the oppressors. But in the end, at least she's trying to make a difference. She can see the real problems with the world, and she's doing the best an orphaned elf with very little in the way for training, education or influence can do to fix them. Whereas the "proper" elves just wander around whining how the past was so great (it wasn't) and how things were better for them (back when they were slaves) and how everything is the humans fault (some of it was, but elves were hardly blameless themselves).

And what did the nobles do to deserve the attention of Red Jenny? you mention Sera, innocents and other parts of her group annoying and pranking nobles.  So we know what Sera and friends are doing...but you left out what nobles did to deserve all those things.  Ohh and just to make sure you dont forget about any nobles....

1) arrow in my face noble - what did he do to deserve that?

2) Lord Mother Pus-Bucket - what did he do to deserve that?

3) You - if Sera were to "get" you then based on your actions so far what would she do to you?

4) random pranks - What did Josie, Cullen, and Leliana do to deserve their pranks?

5) drive by pies - what did those people do to deserve that?

If i forgot any feel free to add, but try not to leave out any details.

Ohh and another thing too in regards to the "she did not weaken nobles" comment?

If you were a noble and word gets out the nobles throughout the land are getting assassinated and its rumored that they got killed because they were mistreating their subjects would that make you think about how you treat *your* subjects?  When you are judging the box in Skyhold one of the options is to make the skull perform public theater and so on.  I've read that the purpose of the skull was to remind other nobles of the consequences of their actions should they get out of line.  Pretty much the same concept as Red Jennies plonking nobles who do bad things.

Nobles is 90% of  the problem they take while beating down. Vaughan kidnapped Elven women simply because of his nobility. Pus bucket tried to kill Sera and only after his flunkies was killed he cries "Wait! This is all a misunderstanding".  Sure,a ambush is always a misunderstanding. Arrow in my face shot fire at the inquisitor without reason. The inquisitor had no idea who he was. A grand Duchess  wanted the Inquisitor dead and his hand removed.

Nobility always punches down.

The jokes was to boost morale of the troops after a bloody battle that ended in a rout . Cory won that battle since Haven fell and had to be destroyed  by avalanche  to buy time while the Inquisition and some refugees fled. The herald was left to face Cory and possibly die in the process. In case you missed it there was still people in Haven that was killed in the avalanche that stop the approaching Red Templars from pursuing the fleeing Inquisition and the refugees that was fortunate to escape Haven before it fell..

Think of this.. Those that went with the inquisitor fled  when the dragon/Arch Demon appeared leaving the Inquisitor to fend for his or her self against Cory and his pet.

I wasnt asking those questions because i didnt know...i wanted Bayonet Hipshot to think about why Sera, Red Jenny or the innocent commoners would do those things to nobles.  Notice how Bayonets posts about annoying and pranking nobles doesnt have any mention of why they are deserving of any of those things?
