If the Bottom Line demands it do you think there will come a time when the PC platform is completely abandoned by Bioware?

All of us on PC know of the awkward controls, bugs and etc. It has been said before; poor console port but not much to be done about it regardless.

What is potentially more interesting is a time when marketing and sales indicate that the PC market is no longer worth any attention whatsoever, or at least the juice is not worth the squeeze. I could see this coming, no matter how much PC gaming contributed to BW's success in the past.

I am and shall always remain a PC gamer so I guess if that ever happens I will have to stop playing BW games. Speculation of course but interesting to consider.

Good thing we have Chris Roberts to prove otherwise.

Oh, and Bioware should really send him a license to use Mass Effect species in a non-canonical manner!

I`m expecting completely opposite. Our new console overlords are not very powerful and are also very compatible with PC code (basically both are more or less mini-PCs with gaming focus). Ports will be easy to make and bring profits. Companies would be fools not to exploit a rather sizeable chunk of market that is easily within reach.

Not for the next game as that probably will be a MMO

'If' is different than 'is' or 'will be.'

'If' computer games are unprofitable, companies will eventually stop making games that can be played on computers.

But computer games are not unprofitable.

More to the point, having games on computers and not just consols will continue to be profitable in the future. There isn't a meaningful structural distinction between consoles and computers, because all consoles are is specialized computers. There's a relatively low cost in making a console game compatible for a computer, and a much higher user market in people who use non-console computers.

The video game industry as a whole is more likely to take a nosedive for broader economic reasons (like an economic crash that crushes consumer willingness to support luxury electronic applications) than PC gamers are to be specifically removed from the market.

Computer Gaming has had a new wind since services like Steam became popular.

All of us on PC know

We're not geth, "we" don't have a consensus on everything. I can live with the PC version just fine ; tactical isn't broken to me or anything. Sure, it's annoying, and I got bugs, crashes, but I must have missed the "holy glory day of complete, flawless games" 'cos I never met one in 8 years. Now, other people can't even play the game ; those are different problems, and my sympathy goes to them (no need to go berserk and forsake BioWare on 78 generations tho). Two, three, even a month isn't too much to wait for a patch if they focus on dealing with a lot of issues. That, and they worked on DAI for almost 4 years non-stop ; they promoted it, they still work on it, cut them some slack.

Agreed, though I think there are a couple parts of the UI that really do deserve some hate. Not being able to map more than 8 abilities, and not being able to switch weapons in combat (this is huge if you're a mage because you WILL run into enemies resistant or immune to your damage type). But those aren't PC specific, just a lot more excusable for controlling with a gamepad than a keyboard.

judging from DA:I, I think Bioware has already given up on PC.

The PC market actually is slowly increasing again now with digital distribution/DRM.    So I am not concerned.

Also, you have to kind of look at the PC industry as a whole.   Computer hardware technology is largely driven by the gaming population.    If game developers stopped making PC games, what do you think would happen to sales at Nvidia?

There are other pressures out there other than PC sales numbers that are driving games to the PC market.

If all PC players know that, then I guess I must not, in fact, be a PC gamer. Despite the fact that I've gamed exclusively on PC with KB+M controls since the Gamecube days.

I need to point out that you should say "All of us -1 on PC ..." because I dont have any problem with the controls. DA:I is not the first game that uses these control layouts and it will not be the last.

p/s: I do agree that tactical view is bad.

Well, Bioware did it before with Jade Empire, they are absolutely capable of it again. I shelved Bioware for years after that, looks like it may happen again.

The PC gaming market has rapidly expanded over the last couple years.  I've been a PC gamer for over 15 years now. I don't remember it ever being such a large market, maybe back in the Half-Life or Quake 3 Arena days.. but even then, the PC side of the market is still dominating as of late.  In fact, Forbes did an article earlier this year quoting a study that showed the PC gaming market is twice as large as the console market, and growing.  Read here: http://www.forbes.co...pc-already-won/

I personally think the PC market will only continue to grow, especially with hardware like Oculus and what not releasing in the near future.  Consoles will need to keep up with hardware changes, die out, or change so much that they aren't considered consoles anymore.  They are being affiliated more and more with 'casual' gaming these days, it seems, the more studies are being done within the industry.

Just my 2 cents.

this is a strange question, if the bottom line demanded it no games company would support PC or any platform that was not profitable. it's not just EA or bioware it doesn't matter what company it is, they are companies they are there to make money. if the PS4 platform didn't make companies money there'd be no games for that platform.

just look a the Wii U Bioware didn't release DA:I on the Wii U because they didn't see that platform capable of producing a profitable version of games like DA:I sure they could release some sort of port but overall they don't see the man hours put in to produce it turning a profit.

so IF the PC platform for whatever reason was not capable of producing a profit on games of course it would be abandoned and that's by many games companies not just EA.

That said it's hard to see how the PC platform would be unprofitable, especially now with Playstation and Xbox being much closer to PC's than ever before. just look at rockstar, when was the last time PC was a launch platform for a GTA game?

Rockstar basically "abandoned" PC a decade ago and yet even they still release PC versions eventually, so even they see profit in it.

This looks more like trolling and whinging than honest speculation to me. No, I don't see BW abandoning PCs.

EA's refusal to deal with Steam might make them think PC isn't profitable, but they just don't realize that Steam is essentially the console of PC gaming. Origin isn't going to compete with it, ever. It will take a massive changeup in their management though for them to ever come around.

Also their next game is very unlikely to be an MMO. I think they learned their lesson that the profit margin on MMOs these days (SWTOR) just isn't as high as it was when EQ and WoW were developed.

I'm not worried at the moment. Should it happen, though, I will simply stop playing games. I'll break my fingers trying to use a gamepad and I don't want an extra machine just for gaming. Gaming is fun, but it's not my life.

EA doesnt like Steam because Steam's percentage is too big and EA is big enough to run its own shop just like Activision/Blizzard does and it looks like Ubisoft is going the same way now. Just because Steam is big and most publishers use it doesnt mean its actually good for publishers or users (see return policy of Origin vs Steam for instance).

I also dont see Bioware abandoning PC as a platform mainly because there's zero incentive to do so, consoles and PC are now targetting the same hardware which makes development much cheaper and simpler and apparently the PC version has been very succesful at preventing piracy.

Seeing what kind of hardware is available for the gaming pc community, I rather doubt that.

I like tinkering and changing hardware as I do playing games and as an old woman don't really know any other hardware nuts I still think they are very much around.

Does ubi offer a return policy ?

Valve have terrible customer service yet everyone loves them. EA has great but are hated.

Console gaming in the traditional sense of having hardware present in a small box next to your TV is going to die very soon and much more likely than the death of PC Gaming.

Please stop talking about me when you complain and whine. The PC controls work perfectly fine for me.
