That absolutely means nothing. Different kind of game for different strikes of folds.
Edit: Besides, need I remind you that this game is overpriced?

You speak the truth. I don't know how EA is reaching the price points of any of their recent games to be honest. I wouldn't have minded paying $50 for the game on any platform but $60-70. Uh...

I never put anything past EA, no matter how brilliant or stupid it might seem.

Dragon Age Inquisition from what I've heard is selling quite well, but below expectations (no figures cited, just various commentary from people with sources around the interwebs).

It's still a franchise, and hopefully Inquisition has got Dragon Age back on the right path at least.

If history involving EA has taught me anything, below expectations isn't good, no matter how decently it's selling.

This is not a surprise to me btw. I knew Bioware would have an uphill battle to climb commercially with this game. They burned a lot of bridges with DA2 and ME3.

In the UK, which I think is where the numbers the OP is talking about are from, that's not really true, at least on PC.

I mean, currently on Amazon

DAI is £47, Far Cry is £36.50, AssCreed is £34.50.  Though you could get DAI for £40 on pre-order IIRC

Ahh. Fair enough then. I assumed it was priced everywhere like it is in America, where virtually every new title is $60.

It's almost 80 bucks in Canada due to stupid inflation.

The price does match content you are getting though, if i buy Far Cry 4 i will just play the single player campaign and never touch the game again. DA:I will be played lots, 100's of hours. And i think this game will have better legs than DA2 and sell more in the long run, it is way better quality.

Yes or probably in this incarnation, maybe next time it will be an MMO.

DA:2 sold better than DA:O in it's first week. So i will say no.

BioWare already have one MMO. Are they really likely to want to steal customers from SWTOR, in a market that's already over-saturated with fantasy MMORPGs?

Considering DA:I began as an MMORPG, yes they most certainly may try

DA:I will probably have decent legs, but how many copies they sell before the end of the fiscal year is gonna be important I think.

I'd be worried if DA:I doesn't sell at least 3 million copies before then. That's just a guesstimate on my part, but I think it's pretty obviously that the game and it's marketing had a very large budget.

Am I the only one that kind of hopes so? I haven't had an MMORPG suit my tastes since EverQuest died. I really miss it, and the newer ones are just meh.

Let's agree to disagree on this. Back then there was no recession.

There was no recession in the early nineties?

Must remember to tell George HW Bush and the members of the Exchange Rate Mechanism.

I guess the reason I feel the way I do is because of other games I also got this year. I have Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call and Person Q Collector's Editions. I paid $80 for both games. For Final Fantasy I got the game, Soundtrack, I believe some character cards and a case for my 3DS. For Person Q I got the game, Soundtrack, Tarot Cards, Art Book and a case for my 3DS. I can honestly say I got my 80 dollars worth for both games. Not to mention that both soundtracks are physical copies. For Dragon Age I got the Deluxe Edition and everything is digital but the actual disks. To me it doesn't compare money wise.

I live in Canada and back then I was around 3 or 4 years old. I'm 27 now.

"According to retail monitor Chart-Track, it had sold almost the exact amount of launch week copies as 2011's Dragon Age II."

That isn't bad at all. Dragon Age 2's launch week sales were pretty decent - it's just that Dragon Age 2's sales dropped very rapidly after a few weeks.

So if in a year the sales are still as big as DA2 could that mean that the franchise is finished?

Thank goodness it's up to EA and not you. Otherwise we'd certainly not have DA4

Well he's not wrong. If DA:I in the long run has similar sales to DA2, that's not good at all.

This game has had a much better reception from players. So hopefully that'll keep it selling longer than DA 2.

All this, pretty unfounded, speculation is worth very little, EA's next quarterly results will tell the real picture and will likely give accurate sales numbers for DA:I, until then its a rather silly discussion.

I think what might be impacting the UK numbers is that it had already been out for a good few days before it was released here and there was quite a lot of scaremongering about PC crashes and general bugs by that point. I know of at least 3 British people who decided to hold off their purchase until the bugs were ironed out.

I admit I wasn't as focused on the launch for DA2 though so don't know if it had the same issue?

I suppose a price cut in the holiday and positive feedback would bring a lot more of sales for this game. Probably around Boxing Day.
