So who will be the returning companion in DA4? (Noticing a Pattern)

DA:A - Oghren returned from Origins
DA2 - Anders returned from Awakening
DA:I - Varric returned from DA2
Each game has had one returning companion from a previous game(I'm not counting Merrill). So, of the DAI cast, who is most likely to be returning in a game most likely set in the north of Thedas somewhere.

I'd rather see more DLC story for Inquisition than news on the next Dragon Age.
Agreed. I'm hoping it does well enough to receive a full expansion.
However, if I were to bite... I'd say probably Dorian or Iron Bull, given that we're probably going North in the next installment. Frankly I'd rather they take a turn and bring Scout Harding in as the next companion.

Well, Dorian seems the obvious one. Iron Bull has relevant connections
LI status could be an issue. Though it didn't stop Advisor Leliana
Vivienne and Cassandra are surely out because of potential commitments. And likely Solas cos spoilers. Blackwall would be awkward too I guess.

I too vote for Scout Harding and I haven't given up hope on Charade.
If we're going to Tevinter then Felix would have been a good choice. I'm not sure about Iron Bull or Dorian because we've have past companions back but never the LI ones. Leliana and Morrigan were part of DAI but they weren't party members.

I'm sure that the next game will be the one to break with this tradition. In fact those willing to lay money on these odds should consider Scout Harding to be the dark horse candidate for elevation to full party member in DA4. Too much expressed love for her gives that character the insiders edge for inclusion down the road.
Of the current nine companions & three advisors, eight could potentially be romance options and I agree that this excudes them from any possibility of rolling over. Of the remaining four, Leliana is a write off for the several obvious reasons. That leaves Varric, Vivienne and Cole. We won't likely see Vivienne repeat as she too can end up as Divine. Varric has already rolled over once, and unless Bioware opts to manifest a "threepeat" the only other viable candidate that could potentially return is Cole.
To me that suggests that should another game get underway, what we'll most likely see is a scenario similar to Merrill and Isabela getting a promotion to full squad member in DA2 after a previous minor supporting role. There are other possibilities from Inquisition, but Harding is where to lay your money down!

Given that the devs have stated they intend to move north in the next title, that really only leaves room for Dorian (who mentions going back to Tevinter) and the Iron Bull. All of the other companions have already stated at the end of the game they are staying with the inquisition or moving elsewhere in Ferelden/Orlais.

Put me in the Harding camp, though I would also love Charade and Sutherland as party members.

I also don't want anyone returning as a party member again.

I don't get the Harding love, to be honest she was just there for me. I'd rather have a new, female dwarf character.
I also don't want anyone returning as a party member again.
I think adding Varric as a party member was a great choice on BW's part. Each time they've had a returning character to link the new game to the previous game. I really wouldn't doubt if Varric comes back for some reason. And definitely wouldn't mind having Dorian or IB as a returning companion.
Although it's probably unlikely, I have to vote for Scout Harding, too. She's seriously the forbidden fruit of DA:I. I flirt with her every chance I get, hoping that she'll be receptive. BUT NO. Y U DO DIS BIOWEAR!?

If Dragon Age 4 gets made, I think Harding will be a companion by popular demand.

Don't know how many people came across this, since so many people seem to hate Sera, but the last of her War Table ops does have Charade as a Red Jenny in Tantervale.

With the rumours that the next game may be heading to Tevinter, there's a solid possibility that Sten, Fenris & Dorian may come back as they have the biggest ties to that region of the world.

Probably one of the least important companions. Cassandra and Vivienne most likely won't be back, they're way too busy with other things. (SPOILERS) If you've seen the ending, chances are Solas will not be returning as a companion. I don't see Varric returning for a third game (as a companion anyway) so I think it's safe to say he won't be the returning companion either.
So we've got:
Cassandra
Vivienne
Varric
Solas
Cole
Dorian
Iron Bull
Sera
Blackwall
In my opinion, it could be any of them. It'd be interesting to see Cole again, and it'd make sense given his nature. Scout Harding seems to be popular demand as well. What do you guys think?

Varric is the only one I want to see returning. Perhaps Dorian if he's serious about change in Tevinter. A bit of a revolution there could be badass. Otherwise Varric.

It should either be Iron Bull, or Iron Bull. If those aren't possible, my third pick is Iron Bull.

None of them. Give me a completely new cast of companions. Not because I don't like the ones we already have, I just want more room for fresh characters.
I would like to see the return of an associate character like Scout Harding though.

If a companion HAD to return, hmm...
Damn thats tough. Not Varric, he's already had two runs. Cass might be out of the picture given her potential of being Divine, as for the rest...
Cole? Eff, I don't know.

I don't think we have any way of knowing. Oghren and Anders were out of left field, only Varric was foreshadowed.
Hell it wasn't even supposed to be Anders originally, it was gonna be Velanna coming back.
