Why Cole... His story= either becoming a boy or spirit. What else is there, plus he is pretty boring to me. I'd prefer Dorian or even scout harding tbh, she seemed pretty cool lol
So who will be the returning companion in DA4? (Noticing a Pattern)

Varric or Cullen.

I could see Cole coming back, Solas maybe, though he seems like he'll take on more of a Morrigan/Flemeth role. I've seen some people speculate about harding, I mean maaaaaybe, seems like a stretch though. Cole seems like the most likely, just because he's by nature a drifter, and he doesn't have anything huge happen to him, he's not a love interest, and he doesn't have anything to do after the game ends.

as the rumors seem to be that we are going to Tevinter, either Dorian or Krem would be cool as returning companions and could also help fill in the "x happened in inquistion" expostion. ![]()

Nobody else makes as much sense. Bull maybe, but not if he's left the Qun.

Well, Dorian seems the obvious one. Iron Bull has relevant connections
LI status could be an issue. Though it didn't stop Advisor Leliana
Vivienne and Cassandra are surely out because of potential commitments. And likely Solas cos spoilers. Blackwall would be awkward too I guess.
well Blackwall could be dead, because of exicution, tho sadly that doesn't mean he couldn't have lived.
Iron bull could be turned into Tal- so his connections would be meaningless.
So looks like Dorian
Could be Sera...

Probably one of the least important companions. Cassandra and Vivienne most likely won't be back, they're way too busy with other things. (SPOILERS) If you've seen the ending, chances are Solas will not be returning as a companion. I don't see Varric returning for a third game (as a companion anyway) so I think it's safe to say he won't be the returning companion either.
So we've got:
Cassandra
Vivienne
Varric
SolasCole
Dorian
Iron Bull
Sera
Blackwall
In my opinion, it could be any of them. It'd be interesting to see Cole again, and it'd make sense given his nature. Scout Harding seems to be popular demand as well. What do you guys think?
I'm going with Cole. He's the only one not a love interest (so people can't argue about "why did they leave my Inquizzie behind..."), and, if the series is going in the direction the epilogue makes me think its going, he's the one it makes the most sense (to me) to come back.
Why Cole... His story= either becoming a boy or spirit. What else is there, plus he is pretty boring to me.
Cos of his relationship with Solas.

iron bull I feel will be a cameo, based on da:I choices he either is still a Ben hassrath or he is tal vashoth and fighting assassination attempts. Maybe he can be the npc you meet to create a story choice : pro inquisition reform or pro qunari assimilation.
if Harding is a companion its more to solidify inquisition influence, which based on war table quests puts you out there.
but I feel another civil war brewing and more intensive stuff with the OGs.
as long as I get to throw a goat at a tevintar magistar I'm down with anything.

Bull and Dorian make the most sense and neither have any real obligations.

Gonna go with the bandwagon, Dorian seems the most likely. He's well liked by fans, has no real obligation to stay in the Inquisition, we're probably going north so he isn't out of place, and his story is far from over (hell, his whole deal about reforming Tevinter was hardly touched upon).
Cole is also a possibility, albeit his story came to more of a close.

But if not...
Cole. Makes sense that he moves on to help more people.
Dorian would be hard because he can be with inquisitor or bull
Same goes with bull, but bull can also be with Qunari or chargers.
Varric already returned and Hawke is probably out of dragon age now.
Cassandra and Viv can be divine
Blackwall has way too many variations to be a companion
Sera was too easy to kick out to return and has a lot of hate on her.
Solas...I am guessing will be an antagonist.

The story would be in a bit of a pickle if Blackwall returned as a companion as there is the option to not get him out of his own pickle along with some resolutions to said pickle keeping him from being in a companion state post DA:I. Or I at least assume, I gave him the easy way out more or less.

I believe characters that will be returning, not necessarily as companions, will be:
Solas (this seems like the most obvious one)
Cassandra, Vivienne, or Leliana - whichever one is divine. If we are only in the North, I don't imagine we will see them in the next game, but a future game, surely.
Possibly Dorian, if he is leaving to 'rebuild' Tevinter. I believe he is the most likely to return as a complete companion.
Morrigan, and Keiran if applicable. They seem to be rather involved in the ancient elves arc.
I suppose it is also possible we will be seeing Varic again. I don't believe he will ever have a prominent role in the games again, but it is hard to imagine him never showing up.
With the epilogue slides, it as well seems to hint that there may be something with either Hawke/Stroud/Warden Alistair/Loghain if they survive. Although, the amount of resources it would take to incorporate the possibility of which of those characters survived makes me doubt we will be seeing them again.
Characters that I do not believe will be returning, at least not in a plot-heavy role:
Blackwall - he can die in his personal quest, and does not seem to hold much plot relevence.
Sera. I actually really liked her, but as is the case with Blackwall, she just isn't that integrated into the plot, as well as being disliked by quite a few.
I do not believe that we will be seeing a Tal-Vashoth Iron Bull again, but as a Ben-Hassarath, he may have some cameo role, if the next game incorporates the Qunari War.
Cole - and I hate saying this, as I would love to see him again. But, you can deject him multiple times from the Inquisition. I would still hope he may come up again, however.

Dorian, yes please! Are you listening Bioware? ![]()
This would be your chance to make up for the abomination that was Anders.

They already did that IMO, with Dorian. I think its fair to say though that he will be in the next game in some shape or form. He really seems the most likely given his dialogue about heading back, and bioware's about heading north.

Mother Giselle. She's a sweet old thing. I wouldn't mind her citing chants and giving warm encouragements to the party while we slice and dice our way through Thedas.

Dorian! Dorian! Seriously I am replaying the game as a dude just to romance Dorian. It would also make sense lore wise. Are you listening, Bioware?

I'd be quite the plot twist if Flemeth turned out to be a companion for the next game since the Dread Wolf stole her power. Let's not forget she has multiple bodies - I wouldn't count her out yet.

I just don't see Dorian coming back as a companion, though. I think that if we end up in Tevinter, he'll show up for sure, but not as a companion.
I think Scout Harding is an easy one. She wasn't technically a companion, but she was a fairly prominent supporting character and she had flirt options. My gut is that they put those options in to see what the reception would be towards a pretty female dwarf LI. She's been overwhelmingly positively received, so I would not be surprised at all to see her show up as a companion and LI in the next game.

I think Cole is the most likely one. Love Interests would be very difficult, Vivienne wouldn't really have a Reason to go north (whereas Cole doesn't really need a Reason) and Varric was already repeated.

I'd love to see Dorian as a companion again, or, if not as a companion, in a role similar to Morrigan in DA:I. He doesn't even have too many variables (I think) besides his LI status, so it could be plausible. And I just want to have multiple bromances with him, like I had with Varric ![]()
