Ok since the last thread got derailed by intolerant misogynists (no matter where you go there are always some) I would like to take this chance for a fresh start, but before we begin I think we should lay down some ground rules.

This is not a thread for you to enforce your bigoted prejudices, this is a thread for those who enjoyed the romances and wish to provide feedback and ideas for Bioware to improve their romances in future games, everyone has a right to equality and women are gamers too, so please try to treat each other with respect.

Hopefully we can start fresh and continue in a civil and mature manner. Now that is out of the way lets get on with the thread.

I must applaud Bioware with for the romance options as it was a good first step in the right direction, I loved Cullen's cute awkwardness and how Blackwall constantly felt unworthy of your affections as if you were some sort of goddess, I did feel Solas was a bit full of himself though and Iron Bull felt more like a casual fling.

If I were to make a suggestion I would probably have to say it would be nice if the romances felt a bit more empowering for the women, it would be nice if we could have a polygamous relationship with 2 or more of the romance options (for instance the ability to form relationships with both Cullen and Dorian at the same time (a little disappointed I was not able to get with Dorian)) and it would be nice to see your companions compete more for your affections.

I was also a little disappointed with the options for male Inquisitors, I felt they were a little too pretty and quite frankly a little easy, it would be nice to see them play harder to get and even spurn the main character's advances more often as surely the writers can come up with better reasons for the female companions to be in the game other than as eye candy for the male players.

All in all it was a good step in the right direction, so who was your favorite romance in Inquisition and what would you like to see in the series future?

Solas, as for future DLC, that's probably obvious ;)

So far I've only played through once and romanced Cullen, which was a very sweet romance.  They addressed all the issues I had concerns with in his characterization in the interactions with him.

My second inquisitor is romancing Blackwall which started slow and was kind of bland to me, but now that he's starting to open up a little and admit his feelings (even if he thinks you loving him is a mistake) it's beginning to get interesting.  I'm not too far (only been to the Storm Coast and gotten the first kiss) but it's fun.

My daughter romanced Iron Bull, which she enjoyed immensely.  He seems to be a lot of fun from what I could tell.  If you press the romance and don't treat it as a fling, he displays some really emotional moments and commits as strongly as any of the romances.

Next for me will be Dorian, then Cass (both with male inquisitors of course).  Then if I have another play in me, I'll romance Solas.  I love the Solas character, but I don't do angst well and there is just so. much. content. I don't know if I can reach that point.

Oh god I hope not, Solas had a far too high opinion of himself, who does he think he is breaking off the romance with the Inquisitor? I am the Inquisitor, the Herald of Andraste, I should be the one to say when the romance is over not some elven hobo.

Favorite? That's hard Cullen, Dorian, and Iron Bull all had romances I enjoyed. Though I haven't quite finished the last one. As far as what I'd like to see more romances. I know it takes a lot of work, but I'd love more variety or ability to choose between more than 1-2 per run. It increases replay value for me. If that's not possible more interactions between myself and my romanced character. I want more scenes and development.

Just write great characters, only romances if they fit story-wise.

I rather take great characters like Mordin Solus over romances any day.

I'm only about halfway through, but I did manage to get to the first romance scene with Cassandra. It's miles above the other romances in Bioware games, so well writtne. Cass has very cute side to her that she never shows, good stuff Bioware. Shame about the dialogue bug that is plaguing the game at the moment.

All the romances were great, and this is coming from someone who generally doesn't invest much thought into the romances.

For DA4 I want to hook up with a legit Tevinter magister. Not a nice magister though. I want a blood sacrifice enthusiast slave owning magister. Let's get some lawful evil babes in this game.

I've only played the Cullen romance and the Iron Bull romance, but I've watched the others on youtube. The Cullen romance is bloody good. The Iron Bull romance is a lot of fun, too. The Solas romance looks good and I'll probably give it a try in my next playthrough (unless I go for Cullen again). After that: Blackwall and Cassandra, I wish my femquisitor could romance Cass.

I watched the Sera and Josie romances and wasn't too impressed, but maybe they're more fun when you go through them with your own character.

The only full romance I experienced was Cassandra's, but I greatly preferred Scout Harding's.  Too bad it didn't go anywhere.

Hi, been lurking on the forum for a while, love this thread thank you for starting it. I enjoy the romances in Bioware's games (loved them in Mass Effect too), for me it gives another layer to the characters makes me more invested in them. I am still playing through options so far only had the one romance with Cullen. Would love to be able to romance Varric.

Oh and as someone else said the writing of the characters needs to be good and to fit the romance, no romance just for the sake of it.

As for me well I am an ancient female gamer, who loves games with good stories etc...

I won't be romancing anyone in this game and that's a shame.  The romances with Morrigan and with Leliana in Origins set the stage for games companies to copy as the player agonised over Morrigan's decision and her child and the consequences of this on the story or Leliana's trust to reveal who she really was to the one she loved.  It was high drama all the way and people have told me that the same held true for the male companions.

So who came up with the brilliant idea of making the companions in this game both race and gender selective?  Lazy programmers?  This is a single player game.  I don't care if you people out there romance the companion of my choice whatever race or sex you are...  This is not an MMO!  I will never see it.  So, I don't like Cassandra and I don't like Josephine and really... Am I alone?  Major fail.

OK I'm sure you don't really believe what you wrote in the opening thread, but...

In summary what you are saying is that women in relationships should be treated like goddesses and have all the power where as men should have to work hard and romance ugly women.  Why for example shouldn't a male inquisitor be chased by one of the ladies, I would have thought by your tone that you would support sexual equality.

(the male romance options where certainly not too pretty... I have never played a game before were I was romancing less 'physically' attractive women than I do in real life)

Sadly I feel the opening post is just laced with prejudice and misandry and the tread should closed.

So far I have romanced Cullen, Blackwall and Solas.

By far, Cullen is my favorite. It was amazingly sweet.
But, I will say he almost had competition. He was my first romance and then my second play through was Solas. I went into Solas' romance with a chip on my shoulder because of how he leaves at the end. But as the romance progressed my heart warmed up to him and I had the hope that being in a relationship would give me some kind of different ending or that he would give her some kind of last words or even reappear at the end after the deal with Flemeth. Imagine my disappointment... I felt absolutely terrible for my Lavellan for putting her through that heartbreak. If it hadn't of ended the way it did I would have probably said Solas' romance would have been my favorite. A pray for a DLC where he comes back or we go hunt him down. My Lavellan misses him and wants answers!

There is always one isnt there? I would say your problem is that you have such a skewed perception of equality due to society putting the heterosexual male on such a high pedestal that any move towards true equality seems like punishment to heterosexual males, I am not asking for heterosexual males to be punished I am asking for equality and a little bit of respect towards female gamers, is that too much to ask?

The irony of this is I would say similar same to you... you have grown up hearing constantly hearing that "girls are made of sugar and spice and all things nice", that women are oppressed, that men are privileged that you view of society is completely skewed from reality.  I will give you one fact (according to the crime survey of England and Wales), men are more likely to be the victims of intimate partner violence within marriages, the rates are the same co-habiting couples, women are more likely to be the victim of partners and ex-partners they don't live with.  Did you know this?  I'm guessing this is contradictory to your world view but it is non the less true.  The reason for this is that we don't see male victims and ignore female privileges so we end up with a distorted view of the world (wealth is by far the main source of privileged not gender).  Anyway I will leave you to your thread.

Iron Bull is my favorite romance just because it's hilarious.

Future: Still Varric. I know it will never happen, but if there is someone I want to ride that's not Bull, it's that furry dwarf. unf

Um, your OP doesn't sound very fair. A way I've learned you can tell if something is fair or not is if you change the two around and see how it sounds. So with your OP:

If I were to make a suggestion I would probably have to say it would be nice if the romances felt a bit more empowering for the men, it would be nice if we could have a polygamous relationship with 2 or more of the romance options (for instance the ability to form relationships with both Josephine and Cassandra at the same time (a little disappointed I was not able to get with Sera)) and it would be nice to see your companions compete more for your affections.

I was also a little disappointed with the options for female Inquisitors, I felt they were a little too handsome and quite frankly a little easy, it would be nice to see them play harder to get and even spurn the main character's advances more often as surely the writers can come up with better reasons for the male companions to be in the game other than as eye candy for the female players.

See what I mean? Reversed, it sounds very unfair to female players, thus when normal it sounds unfair to male players.

To answer your question, my favorite romance was Josephine and I'd like more romances handled like hers was, except not have them pair up with someone else if neither are romanced.

Leliana...

They said in an interview that past romances are intentionally left out because since it's a new main character every time, they don't want to put players in a position where they would be "cheating". It was in this months Game Informer.
