I honestly didn't care at all for Cassandra or Josie. They just didn't interest me in this game. They weren't bad characters per say, I just felt 'meh' towards them. The two characters I would've liked to romance (as a male) would have been Sera and Scout Harding.

I'll also put up my favourite romances from the series:

DA:O = Leliana (although having watched videos of Zevran's romance, he's pretty awesome too)

DA2: Merrill (hands down she's probably my favourite, if only because her VA and lines were just amazing)

ME series: Liara (having replayed ME1 recently, it was kind of cringeworthy in the first game. But taking the series as a whole, this romance was great in the way it developed over time)

So based on this, I would say I probably prefer:

A ) the funny/sarcastic/don't take everything so seriously ladies (Sera, Merrill),

B ) The innocent/don't know a whole lot about the world/joy at finding new things (Merill, Liara)

C ) Mysterious/got something to hide (All of them to a certain extent)

Edit: I should add, that while I did put above the types of ladies I THINK most attract me in videogames, it's hardly conclusive, and is based on my own biased perceptions. I don't think that these are the sole traits that make a woman attractive, or that it is universal for all people to feel the same way I do, just that these are the most recognizable traits I noticed from those characters off the top of my head.

But if I were to be honest with myself, I would have to say that I am disappointed by the romances with DA:I for people playing as heterosexual males. Not because there was a lack of choice (it's the same # as pretty much all of their games), nor because the romances in the game lacked in 'quality' (this is easily proven by the large # of people who have praised both Cassandra and Josie's romance arcs). I love the way the romances were handled, and how it essentially did not end with sex being the 'main goal'.

But as I've said previously, I just didn't care at all for Cass or Josie. They didn't interest me on a romantic or friend level. But I'm excited for whatever romances Bioware comes up with in the future, whether it be through DLC, or in the next game itself.

I've romanced Sera (female human Mage) and Josie (female elf rogue).

I think they're both really great. I think Sera is my favourite (as I think Sera has the best story arc overall) but Josie's is really sweet.

I like that Bioware didn't have a sex scene for Josie as it wouldn't fit with the romance story but I like that Sera's does (and it is VERY Sera).

The only thing that I think Josie's romance is missing is any form of comment (I've not heard any in party banter). I'm not talking about that my they were both women. It's set in Orlais and Ferelden who don't seem to care much about that.

BUT given the way people react to my Inquisitor as she was an elf you'd think they'd be some comment on it in terms of the romance (Josie's work for the Inquisition certainly does). And that is controversial in Orlais and Ferelden (the same too if its a mage, dwarf or Qunari).

I'm probably going to go back to Sera with my dwarf and (especially) Qunari Inquisitors.

I also think the Leliana / Warden romance is amazing and sweet - if you harden Leliana it seems that the only good, bright thing left in her life is that relationship.

For the future: Scout Harding for sure (little bundle of murder) but I'd like new characters.

The only thing I'd change is remove the flirt button from characters you can't flirt with (or change them at a certain point and change it to be friendly. The comments to Cassandra at times don't come across as flirty more friendly and teasing.

I like most of the romances for the DA series; Leliana and fWarden, Morrigan and mWarden, fHawke and Isabela, fInqusitor and Cullen, mInquisitor and Cassandra. They're nice with some great moments in the dance of romance but none of them quite hit that ...kind of epic feeling of an undying love. L&fW came close enough but not quite reaching it. The only chars that nearly reached it are the ones from ME3.

How about a friggin dwarf romance. 3 games and one major expansion, and still no love for dwarves. It's even worst Inquisition because Varric and Harding both easily could have been made romance options for other dwarves.

Give me a female Qunari mage romance option. I don't care if she is bi or straight long as males can romance her. ideally give her Olviia Wilde's looks, and a hate for the Qun. The main plot could be nug wrangling for all I care as long as I get to romance her.

And as for the romances in DA:I. I haven't done them all. From best to worst that I've done; Solas, Cassandra, Iron Bull, Josephine.

I think I'm going to try Dorian next, but I haven't thought of a character yet that would go well with him. Plus I really want to side with the Templars in my next run since I've only done it in one of four playthroughs (Calpernia is way cooler than Samson), and I find dialogue with Dorian in the mage quest to be too important to miss if I want to romance him.

Cass's romance is really sweet, and has a lot of really cute scenes. I adore how she has a romantic side under her tough exterior

Cullen's was better than I expected and pretty cute. He was definitely the "prince charming" of the male romance options, but there's nothing wrong with that. He reminded me of Alistair in some ways.

Solas is really the best option for a female elf. His romance integrates more into the story than any other (imo), and I feel like it's a good choice for getting the most out of future DLCs or DA games considering the epilogue.

I haven't done Dorian's romance, but I've watched videos of it and it seems good. Iron Bull's has been disappointing for me so far, and I couldn't finish Blackwall's. Haven't even looked at Josie's or Sera's romance.

Regardless, I'm glad they added in Solas and Cullen as romanceable characters. For me, they have been the best straight female options in the game.

As far as future romances go... I really want more diversity in the female romanceable characters. Almost all have been humans, and the rest elves. A dwarf or qunari option would be great.

So far Cullen's romance has been my favorite. I fell in love with Bull toward the end of my first play-through, so my second inquisitor romanced him. However, I tired of it quickly after Tough Love, so I returned to Cullen. This time I am going to romance Solas and I have a feeling I'm going to cry.

Solas. Just... Solas.

I want some closure and a possible happier ending to that in future DLC or games.

If he ends up becoming an antagonist in future games, I want the chance to help him find redemption even if we have to stop his plans, the way we could for Loghain in DAO. (Or, heck, let him do what he wants if it isn't too unreasonable like the Architect in DAA.)

If he shows up in a future game with a different protagonist, I want the Inquisitor to be able to make a cameo and confront him (as Hawke could to help deal with Corypheus), particularly a Lavellan who romanced him.

I want their story to continue and have some semblence of closure, as a Male Warden could with Morrigaan in DAO (later Witch Hunt and DAI).

Actually, I felt Warden Alistair & HoF felt pretty epic as well. It could be my bias after all, because it's still my favorite romance (Cullen's comes close), but hearing Alistair longingly talk about how he can't wait to reunite with her made me feel all tingly and warm.

Romance with Harding, where we get to do forward scout missions together, explore new areas, sneak around, that sort of thing.

since i've only completed dorian's and solas' romances so far, i can't really comment on the rest, although i do still plan to romance cullen, sera and iron bull.

i love both dorian's and solas' romances for different reasons.  i just fell in love with dorian from the moment i met him - i simply adore everything about him.

i love solas' wisdom, intelligence, his stories and that, despite his true identity, he's still far from perfect and he still makes (rather catastrophic) mistakes.  on top of that, i also love the passion in his romance scenes.  i think he won over dorian by a margin because he is so important to the story and his romance seems doomed - i'm very much attracted to tragic stories.

i know that cullen's romance is going to feel like alistair v2 for me (the sweet, awkward ex-templar thing all over again), but the main reason i'm interested in romancing him is because i like how he's grown as a character and in a way, i feel proud of him XD

i'm a bit sad that sera is the only female LI i'm interested in in DAI.  i'm still undecided with cassandra (i like her, just not interested in her in that way) and joesphine's is just too sweet for my liking.  i think one sweet romance with cullen is all i can stomach for one game xD  i'm also undecided with blackwall.  again, i like him, i just don't know if i'm interested enough.

Cullen is been said to be prince charming and in a way he is, if you forget his drug addiction, his willingness to chop heads off and to torture, he also is still quite rash in some situations until you make him to step back a bit and think ( I think he is sort of like Cassandra in some ways)

I found his romance to be the most subtle, nuanced and complex (for a BW game). I'm not coming from a fan perspective, since i never payed much attention to him in previous games and at first I was expecting/afraid that the whole thing would be quite cheesy. He could have been a really cheesy character, but to my surprise he bypasses almost all cheesy moments.

It's not that his romance is the best thing ever, it's that he as a character imo was handled very well. He doesn't have that extreme personality that my angst-radar picks up with all other male characters in DA. I don't find the extreme angst or broodiness appealing, especially in games it often comes off very one-dimensional. A plot where you discover something about a character as you get to know them better imo is much more interesting and Cullen's character plot did just that.

As for Cullen....he has great sense of humour, which is always a plus. Also, I found it really adorable that flirting with him always would end up in awkwardness (Cassandra seems to have the same element, they both become quite dorky and it adds another layer to their character). His issue with lyrium and his outburst adds an interesting dimension to the romance and his character and becomes a part of it. That particular scene was really well played by the VA. I wish that instead of the kiss you could choose to play chess games with him (which was another really clever scene) or watch him organize a battle, or invite him to hunt dragons.

I'm on a third run of the game, so I haven't played though all of them, but from what I've seen I enjoyed Cassandra's the most, with Dorian being a close second.  Currently doing a run with Josephine, and it seems cute/sweet - not really to my taste, but done well enough that I'm sure it'll be appropriately cutesy for the people who like that.

I started Bull's on my second run, and I was entertained while I thought that he was a pure humour/comic relief character, but once I got to the point where I realized I was supposed to take him seriously that became a firm "no" from me so I reloaded and avoided him (when I take him seriously, he reminds me too much of a friend who's fine to hang around with but terrible to the women he dated, so that ruined Bull for me).  But again, it clearly works for other people, so good for them.

I haven't played a female inquisitor yet, so I can't comment on Sera/Cullen/Solas.

I completely agree with ThreeF. For me Cullen's romance was more mature than sweet. I liked that it wasn't an angsty option even if his addiction problems could have easily go down that route and that it added some nice dialogue options if you are playing a mage. As I grow older I find angsty characters less appealing, that made DA2 male characters a bit of a pain.

Also more chess!

On my second play through I romanced Blackwall but after too much drama my Trevelyan was more than a bit angry and ended up making him serve the Inquisition, which ended the romance. Now she is romancing Josephine. If you can describe a romance as sweet it certainly is this one.

... it would be nice if we could have a polygamous relationship with 2 or more of the romance options (for instance the ability to form relationships with both Cullen and Dorian at the same time (a little disappointed I was not able to get with Dorian))...

I understand that players will want what they want and I don't really care for the most part. However, I will say that with this specific example both of these men are likely to prefer an exclusive relationship. I don't know if it comes up with Cullen, but one of the Dorian dialogs has him actually referencing the Inquisitor being involved with someone else (if game conditions are met) and how that would bother him (Dorian) to be seen as interfering with that.

If we're going to have any sort of polyandry in the DA series I think it would be best to have a person with that as part of their character to begin with.

I really enjoyed the approach to romance in DA:I. I felt like there was a great selection of characters to romance, and none of the romances felt out of character.

So far I've experienced a romance with Blackwall, Josie, Cassandra, and Sera, and I loved that they all felt completely different. From what I've seen of youtube vids, all of the other romances also seem different, well written and character appropriate.

However, the only one I really want to romance at this point is Varric. I can't tell you how disappointed I was when, after rolling a female dwarf inquisitor specifically to seduce that sexy dwarf, I discover he's not even an option. After two games of teasing I'm expecting him to end up on my list of unrequited virtual love, but I can dream.
