I would never finish the game if I had to choose between my Warden and Hawke. Nope.
That choice would be too easy for me.
Warden all the way.

Perhaps that was the original intent back when that sequence was first conceptualized, but I doubt the dialogue is proof of it.
Oh, I agree with you. I'm just finding ways to justify the Hero of Ferelden showing up in a future expansion.
Personally I'm arguing for a return to the Hero as a PC and return to silent protagonist for the duration of said expansion/dlc. I'd be willing to live with it if it was the only way to make it happen.
If this was their original plan, I'm glad somebody talked them out of it. Choosing between my Warden and Hawke? Pfft... this would be the last BioWare game I ever bought.
Gratuitous tragedy is gratuitous.
If the game was to have the Hero of Fereldon in the game, I'm sure Morrigan or Leliana, if romanced, would be very upset the Inquisitor chose to leave him/her in the fade.
I actually would have loved having to choose between Hawke and HoF.
I don't see how they could have ever put a voiced Warden in the game without upsetting a good chunk of players though.
I used to feel like this, but I actually think they did a good job with the Inquisitor so I'd be open for an attept with the HoF.

I could see them doing it for a DLC where the primary attraction is "you get to see your warden again", but I don't see including it in the main game to be worth the resources.
Also, and maybe this is just me, but I have to imagine that if this was the Warden that suddenly the entire scene would take a major shift in tone and go from heart-wrenching story of one of your beloved characters sacrificing their lives so others may live, and instead becoming your three protagonists teaming up to layeth the smacketh down on the Nightmare.
This is a good point. Any boss fights after this would feel pretty anticlimactic. As it is I'm now kind of wondering if the final fight will be anticlimactic...Also, and maybe this is just me, but I have to imagine that if this was the Warden that suddenly the entire scene would take a major shift in tone and go from heart-wrenching story of one of your beloved characters sacrificing their lives so others may live, and instead becoming your three protagonists teaming up to layeth the smacketh down on the Nightmare.

This is the best argument I've seen. Yeah, how do you even keep playing after that? A teamup of all three protagonists fighting the bad guy? That's it. There's nothing left, now. Nothing could top that.
Please stop the horse is dead, there is no reason to keep beating it.
To be honest HoF vs Hawke would be way way more tough decision than Stroud vs Hawke. Stroud vs Hawke seemed pretty cheap when comparing to other two possible outcomes with Loghain and Alistair, not to mention that whole "Hawke and Warden disappeared at same time." would make more sense.
"I'm sorry Leliana-, I left your mute boy toy that kept staring off into space in the Fade."If the game was to have the Hero of Fereldon in the game, I'm sure Morrigan or Leliana, if romanced, would be very upset the Inquisitor chose to leave him/her in the fade.
"I'm sorry Leliana-, I left your mute boy toy that kept staring off into space in the Fade."
"Why would you do that?"
"Because the voice in my head that tells me what to do says it likes Merrill more than you....also he was just staring at the nightmare from beyond without saying anything."
"Who is Merrill?"
"I have no idea."
Don't know what Merrill has to do with anything since I don't care about the character and neither would my femquisitor if she were ever to meet her
So much reaching. The Wardens title in after DAO, i Hero of Ferelden, so no I doubt that wast he intention.

Except their disappearances are not connected,

The joke is, that the voice in his/her head is the player. Ranadel preferred Merrill to Leliana and thus tells the Inquisitor to save Merrill's lover over Leliana's.
I'd bring the game back to Gamestop and get 5 dollars back from the Deluxe Edition if Bioware forced a choice between my Warden and my Hawke.
