Has anyone else had this issue with Bull?  Both my husband and I have encountered it on Xbox One.  When not being directly controlled, Bull almost never uses abilities that build up guard (and, as a result, has some epic tanking fails).  Yes, War Cry is enabled and favourited.  Cassandra and Blackwall use it and Challenge like pros.  But Bull just kind of ignores it, wanders into the fray, and gets worked over. 

 

Anyways, I was wondering if other people are having this issue, and/or if there is a workaround besides remembering to switch characters and manually activate War Cry at the start of every single fight. :/

I'we kind of noticed the same thing whenever I try to tank with Bull. I have no workaround to offer though, sorry...

weird. Is he S&S? In my last playthrough he tanked like a boss. Built up guard and everything =/

I'm having the exact same problems with him. If I micromanage him it's fine.. and if I hit 'y' for attack-my-target he generally uses skills... but seems to forget to use Shield Bash a lot. Seems to be something wacky with his AI in that he loves auto-attacking and that's all.

 

What I've seen suggested is changing his ai pattern so he's set to defend a rogue/mage, with the rogue/mage set to follow him. Or similar.. apparently that might help - try that and see. I haven't been able to test that yet myself.

I have charging bull and challenge set to preferred along with a weapon that gives guard and his guard keeps up with Blackwalls, he also is set to just follow Blackwall.

I have the same guard issues with IB.  I have found no solution other than micromanaging.

I just tried Cassandra, and it was so amazingly awesome I'm never going back to IB. She was using taunts as soon as they came off CD when appropriate (ie challenge on mobs hitting me, WarCry when in range of multiple mobs, etc), was generating guard without any issue's and was using skills on enemies as they came off CD.

 

No idea what is up with Iron Bull, but his AI as either 2-hander 'tank' or SnS 'tank' is useless as he hardly ever actually uses any taunts or skills at all. This is fine if you want to micromanage him and/or just play a warrior while the rest of your group do their own thing... but if you want an ai tank he seems to be useless.

I had the same problem for a few hours. It happened after i toyed around with the behavior settings, and resetting it didn´t work.
I exited the game, booted it up again and voila, problem solved.

That might work for you.

He still drops fast with full guard up so no worries

BUll is the best tank for me, it's Blackwall that doesn't tank well at all, Cassie does okay buy still goes down too fast. Bull taunts, holds agro and, keeps guard as much as he can, when we need it. He doesn't on easy fights (his level or lower) but even one level above him and, he's the best in my game. Just make sure you enable his abilities and, have him on defend the Inquisitor.
