People can leave for several reasons:
They have other things to do
Don't want to play the same level or enemy
Too much lag
Want to review their challenges
Want to level up a character
and so on...
Maybe a few are butthurt, but score isn't dictated by N7/CP as we all know, I find some high level pugs play without gear, or crappy weapons and so they get outscored as I do when playing a goofy set-up sometimes.

With the passage of time, I've come to believe that the OP wasn't actually looking for serious or rational answers to his question. ![]()

Argh, fooled again!
I believe you are underestimating the instant damage that kit does. It's the Carnage triggered FE's and follow up incendiary Reegar (yes, even on PS3) that melts stuff pretty much instantly, as well as doing supplemental (and not insignificant) AOE damage.
Edit: Obviously map / enemy combo plays a significant role in these comparisons. For example, on Glacier vs Reapers, this will match almost any kit in the game for damage output
Uhm. I do not think I am, actually. Sure, it is dependant on map/enemy combos. But although there are specific map/enemy combinations in which a setup like that would shine, it would still get trumped on the vast majorities of combos.
The upfront damage you're talking about is divided in the FE one and the reegar one. The 6+6 FE one is nice, but I'm sure you'll agree that many kits can produce a much higher AoE damage than that. The reegar one is stupidly high, but it suffers from two fundamental flaws: it is quite short ranged and, mostly, it is single target (or mostly single target). While that allows you to be super effective against the four bosses, it will be way overkill against pretty much anything else, and you'll only be able to kill one thing while other kits are killing many. This makes you less effective at killing high budget enemies, which is what you should be trying to kill most of the time.
Even in the perfect map/enemy situation, which for that setup would arguably be, as you said, glacier/reapers, it can be outshined easily by some kits. And even a reegar GT can, and will. Let's say you've found an average reapers late wave spawn, something like a brute, two ravagers and a marauder.
You, as a GT, proceed to pulse flamer as shortly as possible and then reegar away. To wipe the spawn, you'll need at least the time to fire the entire magazine while switching through the 4 targets, and I'm not even sure you can divide the magazine effectively enough to wipe the whole spawn. But let's say you do. You'll also need the time to reload the gun after that.
I, as a Vorcha Sentinel, proceed to pulse flamer and then throw a single cluster grenade in the brute's face. The result is that everything's dead right away, apart from maybe the brute on a sliver of health. Who do you think is killing faster? Not to mention that I'm not taking into account my gun yet.
Against Geth and Cerberus those setups you mentioned lose so much power it's not even funny.
No matter how you go around it, high dot broken cheese is always inferior to high powered outright killing machines, in team matches. And even in solos, it still cannot match loadouts made-in-heaven like a Talon GI.
My PC mustard race 2 cents, of course, nothing more.
Well I do love my shooters but as far as RPGs go,I'm pretty medieval...in fact my favourite RPG is probably Dark souls,so I don't think that's gonna be an issue.
Anyway thanks,I'll be giving it a shot.
Glad to hear it! ![]()
It's weid Moadrin, but I've never felt any of those was an issue in the story of ME1. This thread has apparently developed in sort of a lobby for this forum right now, so why not, let's talk about it. I'll write what my thoughts and feelings on what you say were, right next to it.
Yeah, that's true.
It's just that ME's story makes no sense starting from the first mission. Even leaving aside that Sovereign and Saren could have ended the entire conflict before Shepard even arrived on the scene you run into logical errors.
The Normandy was doing a milk run while testing their stealth systems and was supposed to pick up the Prothean Beacon on Eden Prime and bring it back to the Citadel to be studied. During this mission Nihlus was supposed to evalute Shephard to see if they are Spectre material. Soooo... no one knew that Sovereign and the Geth were on Eden Prime, so what exactly did Nihlus want to evaluate? The Normandy lands, Shepard signs a form while the crew loads the beacon into the ship, then says good bye to Ashley and then they fly back to the Citadel. There would have been no action, no engagement, not even time for a training exercise.
It is made pretty clear, if I recall correctly, that the Eden Prime one is the first of a series of missions in which Nihlus will evaluate Shepard. The Prothean Beacon was a very sensitive piece of technology, and although the mission had the potential to be a total "milk run", it was still a critical mission in which many things could go wrong, given the nature of the cargo. Besides, despite what you are proposed throughout the series as Shepart, you cannot expect 100% of any spectre's missions to be serious firefights to overcome galaxy-wide threats. Some of them will be milk runs, some of them will require social interactions, although I'm sure most of them will be very important. Taken into account that the Eden Prime one was not going to be the only evaluation mission, I don't see what's wrong with Nihlus being there to start the evaluation of Shepard in what could turn out to be a totalk milk run (or not). I'm sure a spectre's capabilities off the field are just as important as his shooting scores.
After being made a Spectre (without anyone on the Citadel checking your credentials) you're presented with 3 main missions: Get Liara, Geth Attack on Feros and Geth Sightings on Noveria. Ehm. Geth. In Citadel space (or close to it, in the case of Noveria). And no one does anything about it? That's like having a confirmed attack by IS terrorists in Alaska and sending in your newest FBI agent, solo. Unbelieveable.
What does it mean, without anyone checking your credentials? I'm sure the Council knew exactly who you are and had checked your credentials multiple times before and after the start of the game. After all, you were the second human to ever be granted the opportunity to be evaluated as a Spectre, as far as I know. Surely they know about your credentials already? Anyway, about the Geth in Citadel space. As you said, Noveria is out of it, and there had only been sightings: your job was likely to investigate these sightings and report, although you obviously end up doing a lot more. Furthermore, the Geth had had no interaction with the Council races at all since they were created by the Quarians, as they had never ventured out of the Perseus Veil. Eden Prime was the first real contact with them, and although it was clearly hostile, it is clear that the Council was in need of more information about them and their motives before it could opt for an all-out war. One should also take into account that the Geth forces alone were likely no threat whatsoever for the Council as a whole. About Therum, I seem to recall that noone mentions Geth until you arrive there: there were suspicions it could be them, but no tangible proof. You were likely sent to investigate and, once again, gather information. Besides, Therum was a human (and therefore 3-rd grade, not even second at the time of these events) colony of barely fifty individuals: the council probably cared less about that than they did of Noveria.
There was no reason for Saren to have the cloning facility on Virmire. There was no reason for Sovereign to use the Geth as attack force. And there really was no reason whatsoever to find the Conduit, which made Saren's attack on Eden Prime pointless, too. Why go looking for a backdoor if you can use the front door just as well?
It is made quite clear during the game that all the normal relays leading to the Citadel, which form what you call the front door, are controlled, and that a frontal attack through them would bring Saren, Sovereign and the Geth in conflict with the whole Council's fleet, a battle which they had no chance to win.
Sometimes you get these stories because the writer(s) didn't take the perspectives of other characters into account. The ME story only works (kinda) from a protagonist viewpoint. The moment you place yourself in the position of the villain you realize that Saren as the top Spectre could easily have walked right into the Council chambers at night, fixed the damage the Protheans did 50.000 years ago and then allowed Sovereign to signal the Reapers. Boom, game over. And that was possible -years- before Shepard even became a topic.
That is, assuming the damage the Protheans did was reversible and that Sovereign, and Saren, knew how to do that. That is likely not the case, otherwise the galaxy would have been overtaken years ago, yeah.
And let's not get into the nonsense they call ship design. Or why Joker is doing every single job but engineer on both versions of the Normandy, despite there being at least a dozen crew members.
I don't follow you here. Although ship design in ME1 might be stupid, that's hardly what I call a logic flaw in a game. It was just an afterthought for me, really. Same thing can be said for the fact that in the whole ME trilogy the pilot is the one that works the main guns as well, at least in frigates like the Normandy. Not really believable maybe, but does it really take away enjoyment from the game? I know it didn't for me.
Or weapon design. No ammo... but thermal clips. Suuuuure. That's why the Typhoon is ejecting bullet cases. And the Falcon creates mini grenades out of pure energy.
Now you're just drifting away into ME2/3, aren't you? ME1 had a heat mechanic which actually made quite sense, I think.
Anyway... I don't want to deconstruct my favourite games... but each of them had their flaws. They were still more than worth their money and I spent a lot of time with them. Really good games. They could have been better though.
Of course, we can definitely agree on all this
I popped in on occasion to see how old friends from here were doing, nothing more. You are right though, I don't need to come here which is why I just made the request to delete my account. Later people!
