idk I like it as much as to be expected but I'm not hot on all of the companions, not too fussed about the main story, quite a lot of fetch quests and the combat is running stale.

I wanna play through one of the older DA games but not sure which one. I liked 'em both, preferred 1 and didn't replay it because it was so damn huge. Same for DA2. Which one is more worthwhile replaying?

Yeah, they're both pretty bad in a primitive way compared to Inquisition.

I find DA:O to be the better game, but you could always play both.

I know exactly how you feel!!!! I'm deliberating myself whether to have Spaghetti Bolognaise for dinner, or Pizza. If it's pizza, it'll be takeaway. Dunno what'd be more worth while, though.

DAO was great for its time,  I think you’ll find the combat incredibly slow going back to it now.

DA2 was junked by many people because of its lack of scope and recycled environments but the combat and tactics were near damn perfect (for playing nightmare), also great cast of characters. Shame is wasn’t 10 times bigger !!

Inquisition has me intrigued though, the scope in mind boggling, with a few tweaks like improved tactics, auto attack, point and click, pick up all loot and so on…..   it could knock the previous titles into the dust…

Just wanted to see if there was a consensus on overall playability of the first two games in comparison to one another. I thought DA2 was unanimously known as the worst of the two. After visiting this forum I'm finding out that's not the case (None of my friends are into DA so I'm new to the scene so to speak). I remember like DA more just because of it's open worldliness and not being on rails, but I can't remember the combat system of either very well.

DA2 I seem to like less every time I play it. The only companion that I really liked was Varric, the combat has the annoying "one more wave" mechanic to it, and the environments are reused way too much.

Of the two, I would say Origins is the far better game.

The combat in Origins was really stale compared to 2 and would feel stale compared to this game as well; though the story was more epic.  Personally I really enjoyed the second game, though the last act felt incomplete, every act leading up to it was really good; they did some very cool stuff with your story and the characters were mostly pretty cool. ( I didn't care for what they did with Anders' character, however, he felt really pathetic throughout most of the game.)  If I were to play any one of them again (though why not play both if you have the time?), I'd probably play the second game, since I enjoyed the combat and most of the characters more. (Though I did miss Leliana)

Play Origins, and then play Neverwinter Nights 2.

Skip Dragon Age 2 for the remainder of your lifetime.

I enjoyed all of the games honestly for what they were. DAO was good, felt like the world was a bit small and "on the rails", but also had a decent level of challenge, and the tac cam and tactics were great.

DA2 got away from this a bit, but improved on the combat.. I liked the story as well as the characters in 2 a lot.

Inquisition so far seems good, but I haven't played enough to have the most educated opinion.

My thoughts though, just play the game and enjoy it for what it is.. there will be no game that has everything that everyone wants, so may as well enjoy it for what it is. Obviously there are some glaring issues with Inquistion that have been stated up and down these forums, but overall its good. Not "amazing" like some people expected, but good.

I've played Inquisition for seventy some hours and I find myself wanting to go back and play Origins and 2 again...not because I am unhappy with Inquisition (it's awesome), but because I want to do the whole thing in sequence, as a mage.

Curse this franchise!  I'll be done with all these playthroughs just in time for the next installment at this rate.

Maybe I am really cynical, but I cant help but feel like this is just a "Moaning about my opinions on Inquisition" thread in disguise. It does seem like that, DA2 and DAO are different games and its not hard to just pick one to play, not so hard that you need to start a thread to ask the question. Again, maybe I am just being cynical, but it sure feels like you just wanted to express your dislike for Inquisition and covered it with a unnecessary question.

Wildly enough, certain plot developments in this game have pretty much ensured I will never touch DA2 again.

Even if that weren't the case I'd prefer Origins. It felt closer to the games that made Bioware such a treasure to me in the past. Also, even though I have my perfect Warden playthrough already, there's always mods and player made quests to explore as someone mentioned above. Sadly, ever since the EA takeover, they seem to have developed an anti-mod stance. That is damn sad considering they pioneered the whole toolkit thing in the first place, if I recall correctly.

Anyway, bugs and glitches aside, the story and gameplay this game offers is pleasant enough and much more involved than DA2. But once I get that perfect playthrough there will be absolutely no reason to pick it up again. Origins will always have that, for PC players at least.

I'd say go with Origins first, and then DA2... the sequel isn't really that bad if you can overlook some of the flaws and enjoy it for what it is.  Not the easiest thing to do, I know, but it's possible...

Origins is still my favorite in pretty much every way, although inquisition comes very close. I'm really loving it.

I actually enjoyed the game (Just completed it).

Thanks for the opinions, I may go back to DAO as I remember a lot less of what happened in that game than DA2.

For me it's been pretty even, played DA:O twice, as much as I disliked DA 2, I played it twice (once bugged pre DLC version, once patched with all DLC) and I plan on playing this twice.

Sometime in the future however, I find that I think DA:I is the better game, so this game will probably see a third playthrough at some point, DA:O and 2 are retired.

Storywise DAO is lightyears from DAI and DA2, so dao sounds a good place to start.

They're both acquired tastes, IMO.

It's best to just play them both without any expectations.
