Sera, because seriously she is awful.
Who was your most frequent bench warmer and why?

Cole is the one you WANT to take with you. He gives you such amazing insight into the minds of your other companions.

Vivienne is my benchwarmer. I just can't stand someone who puts looks on a pedestal above all else. She's a bully. ![]()

Varric because... you know, been there done that. Would much rather try out all the new companions.

I would have to say Sera. I just didn't like her that much compared to Varric who I was quite attached to.

Vivienne, just didn't find her useful or interesting enough.

Cole.
My PC is a two-handed warrior. I liked having a sword and board tanks and 2 ranged characters, usually an archer and a mage. So that left Cole out as I didn't want 2 DPS melee characters.

Blackwall because he's kind of dull and Vivienne because she's too arrogant and dismissive for my taste

In my first playthrough it was Cole, because I was playing with knives myself.

Least used companions for me were Sera followed by Vivienne. Bull and Cole were at least used once I think, Blackwall and Dorian I at least toyed with..
I mostly ran with Cassandra, Varric and Solas. Not because they were the greatest characters, but because I liked what they brought to the table. It's mostly because I think the 4 followers cap is too limiting, I would have loved to bring other characters every now and then (besides Vivienne and Sera), but I needed a tank, so only Blackwall and Cassandra came into question for that. I had Blackwall around a couple of times, but once I started romancing Cassandra I simply had to keep her in my party, it felt weird keeping her home.Furthermore, since my Inquisitor was a mage but I didn't want to play the support b****, I needed someone to play the "healing" tree so Solas had to do that (and his specialisation was more interesting later on than another knight-enchanter (Inquis) or necro-thumbtwiddler) and I got him first so he already was specced that way. This only leaves a rogue spot (ran once without one and regreted not having someone for lockpicking immediatly) and while a melee rogue seemed powerfull, I couldn't stand the micro managing so it had to be a ranged charater and Sera ... ugh no. That all lead to running my awsome (at least in my mind ^^) strike team consisting of cassandra and my inquisitor in melee and solas with varric in the back. I really wanted to fit Dorian or (The) Iron Bull in there, but simply couldn't, 3 followers is just too limiting for me in that regard..

Bull because I went Two-Handed Warrior with Reaver specialization. I guess I could have just given him a shield and one handed weapon but for whatever reason I preferred Cassandra and Blackwall for that.

A benchwarmer is someone on a sports team who isn't good enough to play but wound up on the team for some reason or another... they almost never see any action, and are the last resort for the coach or manager. And by that I mean they don't move from that spot unless everyone else is injured and the team is at risk of forfeit because they don't have enough players. Technically these players are even worse than subs or emergency players because there is never an intention to let them play.
Ahh list cloggers.

Blackwall, he is what? Exactly the same sort of tank as Cassandra? I tried to spec him up for 2-handed tanking and he sucks so freaking hard. Plus he is the most boring character plus the biggest wanker.

Wow. 2 shot on the Arishok! My arishok got kited around by my healer Mage Hawke for 20 minutes. Not sure that's any better though.

Varric was probably my least used, out of gameplay considerations mostly. I usually found better bows for Sera and better daggers for Cole before I found decent upgrades/schematics for Bianca.
Vivienne was part of my dragon killing team (OP KE spec, and all that) but other than that, she she stayed on the sidelines. She's a great character, but couldn't stand her attitude.

Vivienne was left at the keep quite a bit. She would say some valid things, but at the same time she could be a real stick in the mud. I dunno I usually take companions based on what I'm doing. If it is fade or elf business, you're in Solas, if it is politics bringing Vivienne, if it Tevinter shiz ur up Dorian, etc.

In order of least used: (not much to not at all)
Sera -- she's cool but I just wasn't that into her on quests (except for personal chats)
Blackwall -- Because Cassandra was my lover and my tank. I knew that guy was up to something, anyway.
Cole - Strange dude and all, but there can be only one dual wield rogue in my crew

I haven't used Cole or Dorian at all... but I will probably use them this time around.
I'm on my "evil" play through and I need a rogue in the group to open locks, so right now it's Sera. Even though she's not evil at all. There's an appeal to running around with someone who's completely insane. Although her banter with Vivienne is the worst I've heard.

I tend to stick to the same party of three on each playthrough. So everyone gets to be a bench warmer at least once.

In my first playthrough it was Iron Bull, even though he was romanced. Simply because he was a 2H warrior and I was a DW rogue. Don't need more DPS, need tanks! Gimme Blackwall or Cassandra.

Vivienne. At least Sera has some interesting banter, sometimes. Nothing Viv can do that Dorian/Solas can't, she didn't even know how to KE properly and thus kept dying... and she was constantly judging every single party member.
Never mind me, just handing out likes to people who correctly point out that Viv does, in fact, not have a clue how to Knight Enchanter. Particularly amusing after her little "welcome to the club, we're totally the best mages" speech after you choose the spec. Other KE mages are, Viv... You're awful at it, you fabulously dressed scrub.

Varric, sadly enough. His DPS was never on par with the rest of the team.

It was Cole. He was odd, and I really did not want to hang with him. Also, I figured with the bad AI behavior that he would be to mushy and be a potion hog.
