I just installed Mass Effect 2 and it installed just fine. When I got to the starting screen I clicked to start a new character and on the first loading screen it freezes. The sound continues going but the screen remains at the initial loading screen with a frozen image. No matter how many times I try to play the game it remains like this.

mycomputer specs are

Operating system: WIndows 7 64 bit

Processor: Intel Celeron 450  at 2.20GHz (single core.)

Ram: 4GB

Video: nVidia GeForce 9400 GT 512MB

DirectX 10

I just finished updating my video card and i made sure no other unnecessary processes were running. I don't know what else to do. some advice would be much appreciated.

same problem. im reinstalling now. if it doesnt work though where do i extract that english.rar and how do i know its not already been installed somewhere in ME2?

You would extract it into the root Mass Effect 2 folder, it already has the proper folders in it, same with the other RAR files.



And you can check if it is already installed by looking at some of the files in it and seeing if they're already installed (not including docs folder).

I just discovered that if I put the ME2 registration code in the Download Manager then it downloads the game automatically. If a reinstall doesn't work then I'm gonna see if the download manager works better. If so then i'll just play it this way. The good thing about downloading it through the manager is that it doesn't require a disk in order to play it.

Edit: Didn't work how I wanted it to i'm afriad. some of the files weren't as big as the ones on the disks but when I tried to do as you asked. They didn't work so i'm just gonna try to do the download manager since I have no clue what i'm doing.

Alright, after trying what you suggested it went where it was supposed to, but it still freezes at the loading screen every time. the file is 11.4 GB in size so I can assume that everything has installed perfectly. Unfortunately the problem still remains. I don't knwo what else to do.

I can actually get down the hallway and almost to Joker to speak with him when I freeze. After about 15 seconds it comes back but the text is all unreadable with choppy graphics. I'm going to add to this so we can all have one thread.

Asalis you can replace loading movies by the empty ones. this allows you to play. But game will run very slow each time after it play prerendered movie. removing bik files does not solve the problem. Something about handling those movies does not work proerly on a singlecore cpu-s.

CHyatt26, seemes like overheating or a video driver errors.

So then what am I supposed to do? I cant exactly upgrade the dell. Not unless i want to void the warranty. Even then i doubt it will solve the freezing issue.

Well, some experiments shown, that game runs pretty fast on Athlon 3500+; 2Gb RAM; Geforce8800GTS (allmost at max settings, much faster then ME1 in fact) but if you try to watch a tactic simulation movies or any prerendered cutscene, game freezes like hell. Save\\load and all back to normal untill next movie.

Myself I'd buy an entirely new system though, doesn't seem worth it to upgrade the xps 450 unless the parts are very cheap. You'd probably need a atleast a new mobo, cpu, and maybe psu.

I have the same problem.

Some people have this issue on dual core processors, so i think is not single core problem.

But mostly a singlecore, and some people with P4+hyper threading don't have this problem. I've tried reinstalling codecs (installing divix H.264 insted of ffdshow). Disabling ffdshow. Installing most recent videodriver. Even deleating all files in movies folder - no change.

It does generate a good file and im baffled by how it did it... If it works then your good to go... if not... reinstall (for the 1,000,000th time) and keep searching....

I myself am going to try and reinstall my operationg system... I was one of THOSE that chose to upgrade from vista and not a fresh install

guys copy and past that .... in atext  save as .xxe ... open it up with rar. and drop it in ur my doc bioware mass effect 2 folder

Does this actually work? I've never edited anything inside my games spec's before and im afraid ill **** things up.

I got the same problem but i dont get how in the world u do all this ^
Can someone explain to me a little slower?
I can 100% play games like Crysis, Dragon Age: Origins, Fallout 3, and Just Cause 2 on all high.
but Mass Effect 2 just doesn't seem to work
