Up to this point I`ve only salvate dupes, but clearly there can`t be any point stock pilling low level commons even thought they are not dupes?

Do not save low level gear. If you have a higher level better quality item of that category. Your inventory cap is 200 items so make sure you clear out room.

Stack on as many materials as you possibly can, so when they finally make changes to the item system in MP, you will be fully prepared for it.

Nope, unless you like the "rush" of binge salvaging a million recruit dirks at once. I can only see if this increased the potential to RNG generate better crafting mats. So far I have not seen anything that would indicate that, so go ahead and salvage away.

Just be cautious to not salvage anything your other characters are using. I've done this to a really good staff once -.-

They might implement a system to improve lower leveled uniques, so I'm going to hold on to some of the more promising ones.
