Is there only a few classes out there that can hack it at the perilous difficulty without having good gear?

I promoted my archer a few days ago, and he was certainly not cut out for perilous, I`m working on my second character now, a tanky templar, and he doesn`t seem like he will fit at perilous either.

To be fair I don`t have close to the best gear yet, but everytime I join a fairly successfull team they are basicly all Arcane Warriors and Elementalist, I`m I fair in my assumption that these are one of the few classes that cuts it without godlike gear? And if so, which other classes can do this?

Archer not good for perilous?  Your pulling the agro before the tank gets it most likely.   We had a mishmash group of people who didn't talk to each other who were only 17th level and got 5/5 killed all the trash but didn't have the lasting power to out manuever the demon boss as we were extremely hurt by that time (only 2 alive and almost dead by the time trash was dead)

Perilous seems to be about play style, and supporting each others roles.  I would open with full drawing the biggest target, the tank would scoop all the agro (legoionare aoe taunt) and then the keeper would do his keeping while dps got the outliers and worked our way in.

I have good gear, I don't know about the rest of them.  We ended up with the essential classes, but it was a pug, and I went from 17th to almost 20th in that one game.

I probably played the wrong way, found a good team now, good tactics etc (you don`t really need a tactic on the other difficulties..) and now it goes much better.

Archer is pretty low-tier for perilous (assassin and Hunter both perform the exact same job, better), and Templars are better dpsers than tanks

All if the mage classes, in the other hand, are awesome in perilous.

That's not to say you can't clear a perilous run with your two classes, but just know it's your team carrying you.

Legionnaire can make do without very good gear--especially if he's largely pulling and running around a corner.  For easier fights, a large % of his fighting will be while invulnerable.  Elementalist can also overperform hard without much gear.  Even if he's not doing oodles of damage, chainpanic is chainpanic, knockdown is knockdown, and barriers/freeze never hurt.

I actually don't mind Archer too much but only if you have some heal on kill accessories, a godly bow, and respect for the Templar Knights and Horrors.  If you get clipped with even one stray bit of fire, it can all go south.

My first Perilous clear was with 2 archers, 1 keeper, and 1 necromancer.

Try archer with fallback plan and not aggroing too many enemy ranged.
