I find him far too preachy. Total hypocrite when you realise he is responsible for it all.

Compared to everyone else it just feels like he has no personality. Just bland. But he's not bad imo

Solas has the best banters with the Inner circle and a massive set of extra conversation trees with Female Mage Lavellan. You need to keep him constant in the team, and keep changing the other two around to get everything. I keep changing my team every time I go to camp for potion replenish. Keep Cole around whenever possible to get all their banter

He must be one of the most responsible Mages I've met so far (apart from Wynne and Morrigan). I respect people who have respect for their culture strangely enough, I dislike my Nigerian heritage. Other than that, I don't have muich to say.

I liked him.  I thought he was really interesting.  Especially after the end and finding out that he is actually Fen'Harel.  I am really looking forward to seeing more of him.

His stories about the fade were always interesting to listen to, and his banter with some of the other characters are pretty funny.

Since I apparently overlooked this thread back in its day, I'll join the necro in my usual rambly fashion. :P

My opinion on Solas is probably best described as "conflicted". He is a complex and divisive character by intent, I think, so that is to be expected ... and it does not help that he is basically two people: Solas-as-Solas and Solas-as-Fen'Harel. And the behind-our-backs revelation of the latter makes it easy to wonder if anything the former ever said is genuine or if he was merely using us from start to finish. Solas-as-Fen'Harel definitely marred my opinion of the character overall, but I'm trying not to think about it too much for the moment because there is a lot we don't know yet. That said, I really dislike Bioware's tendency to wave 2-k3wl-4-u characters and mysteries and cliffhangers in our faces and then leave them hanging for months and years. It works on some people, but for me it is supremely off-putting. So I'll try to talk only about Solas-as-Solas for now.

He is flawed: arrogant, prejudiced, judgmental and hypocritical. He's also compassionate, eloquent, able to respect different viewpoints, and willing to learn and change his mind. Unlike some, he is not a "static" character. He is challenging to others and challenged by others -- that is no small part of what makes him interesting. I really love his interactions with Cassandra because they illustrate the best qualities of both characters so well. Instead of lunging at each other's throats as many others might in their position, they display thoughtfulness, integrity, respect and open-mindedness in slowly forming a seemingly-unlikely but sincere bond.

Another big part of what makes him interesting is his unique knowledge of and fondness for spirits and the Fade, and the abiltity to be a catalyst for others on these matters if they are willing to listen a little. I really never cared about these things one way or another until one of those early Haven chats with Solas, the one in which he first advocates for viewing them as people in their own right and potential friends. Despite the fact that Solas himself was still pretty "meh" in by book at that point, it made me curious, made me wonder what it would be like to interact with a spirit in that way (I never played DA2 or DA:A, so I never had the Justice experience). And it also made me want to know more about him, both on a personal level and to see what I could learn from him on these matters. Looking back, I love how that early talk perfectly laid the "Wouldn't that be awesome?" foundations for meeting Cole.

Cole not only lived up to that (he quickly became my new #1 Bioware character of all time), he also brings out a side in Solas that no one else can. The two are pure poetry together, both in terms of writing and acting, and I was extremely happy for both of them to have found such a cherished friend among the Inquisition. I could listen to them for hours, and come away not only feeling oddly soothed but also with new insights into them both, and honored to have been given a rare glimpse at another world. This friendship is also what I use to keep my Solas-as-Fen'Harel dislikes and suspicions under control, because I don't think even the Dread Wolf could deceive Cole so completely and for such a long time ... and Compassion incarnate would not bond so deeply with a character who is a bad guy at heart. See also: Cole and Blackwall/Rainer ... and Solas' own apology after hypocritically blowing his fuse at our fake Warden.

Overall, Solas-as-Solas might be my #3 character in this game. He trails my new all-time favourites Cole and Cassandra by a significant distance, but his positive interactions with them definitely helped put him in my good book. (Though given how Cass hates liars, and how Blackwall's much less severe lies affected her, I expect she'll make a strong claim to being the first to rip Solas-as-Fen'Harel a new one, verbally at least, when we learn the truth about him IC.) The biggest stain on that, though, is the balcony scene which I really, really loathe because it brings out his ugly side at a time when I expected better from him and wanted to imagine my Inquisitor sharing a sincere friendship with him instead of that "exceptionalism" BS. It doesn't help that, if memory serves, it's the last cutscene with him so there's no positive personal moment between that and "I'll be off now without so much as a goodbye or an are-all-you-all-right, and certainly without any explanation".

Still. I do want to think that friendship was sincere and that even now she and the others he grew close to aren't meaningless to him. It was a very different friendship compared to her sisters-in-all-but-blood kinship with Cassandra or the deep trust, affection and wonder she shares with Cole, but it was no less valuable for being hard-won and slow to build ... because it felt that he respected her and stood by her despite their differences, trusting that she chooses her path carefully and for good reasons, even when he would choose differently. Having someone like that to bounce ideas off and receive criticism and advice from is important to any leader, IMO.

I have thoroughly enjoyed most of the DA romances I have played. Alastair, a rivalry romance with Fenris, Cullen, and Solas.

Fenris romance was amazing and in my head canon I didn't like a couple aspects of Hawke's appearance in DAI because to me I can't see anything separating those two.

That being said the Solas romance was equally amazing in different ways.

The way I played my Daisy Elf Mage Inquisitor she wanted the truth and space delivered more of it and knee more of it than anything she had ever come across our imagined, especially given the fact that she was in line to potentially be her clan's next keeper. I just felt that all that lore was irresistible and made Solas irresistible. I know she would be upset at sine of the half truths and double speak but he was so kind and gentle while pricked that I think she would really forgive him given the circumstances (him being Fen'Harel).

I just know that of he goes "dark side" or wants to take over the world and BW brings back the Inquisitor I hope that either through consequences of past decisions (drinking from the well) or by choice you can opt to join him.

Would be even sweeter if you are running around trying to figure out what is going on, chasing "something" (Solas) and then because he still loves her he appears to get one night, reveals all and gives her the choice; join him or he will leave her to try to stop him.

I am fairly sure we will be seeing Solas again. I really hope that BW does right by him and any romance he had. If the Inquisitor isn't in the one we see Solas in again and the was a romance I hope we see and get a sense of how much he cared for her, and not in the seemingly mopey way that it seems you get from Alastair if certain road were taken or not taken in DAO (never did a play through like that, being this only on clips I have seen from the games of others where I get that impression).

Bottom line. I love, love, love the character of Solas and everything about him. His look, his demeanor, his attitude, his voice actor, etc. One of the best written characters of DA thus far.

Apparently the wards would have weakened anyway. So it was only a matter of time.

Flemeth is at fault for saving Hawke.

lol. It's The Warden's fault for killing Flemeth and forcing her to rescue Hawke as part of her survival plan.

Warden doesn't have to kill Flemeth.

It was Morrigan's fault, for being Morrigan.

Many people speculate if Solas will ever need the Inquisitor's Anchor in the future and it will be our choice if we hep him or not. It's really creepy when you think many of us may have NO choice if they drank from the Well...just imagine that drama...  And I'm not writing about the Inquisitor only. We all know freedom of choice is probably on the highiest place in Solas's moral codex. Just how far can he go to fulfil his plan, I wonder...? If such a situation will ever take a place, ofc.

Well he killed Flemythal , well at least he thinks he killed his only old friend left.

When you think he's afraid of dying alone , ...

At this point he's capable of anything besides you do get the creepy lines about him in DAI , something about him not seeing current people in Thedas as "real".

But I don't think he's going after the anchor , ...he wanted the orb and power.

The anchor has its uses but you still needed templar or mages help to close the Breach.

The only reason he may want it is if it's a key to a special eluvian he needs to access .

About the Well , I don't think it's going to cause trouble with Solas.

If he destroyed Mythal soul to empower himself , it doesn't give him control over the Well.

If Flemythal did send a piece of herself through the Eluvian , whoever get the piece , gets the leash.

It's also possible that piece of Mythal could boss you around through the Fade even without a host.

Solas is one of my favorite characters! My "canon" party is my human mage, Solas, Varric, and Iron Bull. I love the party because it includes one of each race and class (mage getting an extra spot because mage
