He was an intriguing liar (though not a convincing one), and I look forward to seeing where they take his character in the future. I was very happy I was never drawn to him as a romance, but I may actually go that way in an elf playthrough, in case it has any relevance in DLC.

He mostly bores me. I enjoyed Flemeth because of the aura she had. Smart, powerful, driven, ruthless, dangerous. She manages to portray them all. Solas is like some hippie artist boring me with his stoner interurptratation of the art. He might be right, he might be all the things she is, but damn so non threatening I can't take him seriously. I spend most my conversations with him thinking ok, ok, interesting, ok now shut up.

I'd I imagine given the chance he bores me enough I'd eventually make him display his power, even if it killed me, before I cared enough to take him seriously.

One of Bioware more amicable villains, I must say.

I think Bioware should have given him the ability to take a wolf form.

Very well written character, but if my Dalish Elf who romanced him ever found out the truth about him (actually Dread Wolf, and GAVE THE ORB TO STUPID CORPHY), she'd slit her own throat (as she may now be bound to him- eh, creepy, creepy, creepy!) and have her companions make him dead.

I like him well enough though- fascinating character- though I'm deliberately trying to ****** him off on my current jackass character.  Controlled him and made him kill his friend, even.  That should get me a punch, right?  Right?

My first character never romanced him (also couldn't do his side quests because of glitched quest triggers) but I am personally going to make a new character and have Sola's fall in love with her, she will drink from the well too because if Sola's loves her if he is the one who took Flemmeths power then maybe out of love he will free your character from that control, even if Flemmeth was the one who took control of him instead then maybe enough of his spirit/his willpower will be left and will fight Flemmeths control to free your character also from hers.

Knowing what know now this next character will be using that love to her possible advantage given hindsight of knowing now what he is and what has happened to him. After the ending I realized that those who romanced him will probably also have the most impact in a future DLC or game which he is present in and most interesting possible outcome to the main game in preparation for that DLC/next game...that alone is reason enough to make a female character that he falls in love with.

A villain? How so?

One more thing I think about Solas, dude plays a mean game of chess:

I respect him because he respects me. As an Inquisitor slave I trust my life in his responsible and skinny hands.

He is of a self serving mindset, I see solas for what he is, someone who had power, lost power and wants that power back at any cost. Anyone defending him simply hasn't played the scenario out in a reasonable manor. The "Old Gods" want the world back under their thumb. If their way was right they wouldn't have lost it in the first place. Just my opinion.

Solas's focus clearly isn't power in and of its self but protecting the people who ever he means by that even if he must use less than savory methods to do so and he is indeed a trickster but that doesn't make what he did show any less true just that not everything was told.

Solas is the equivalent of Hitler. He is set in a master race mindset. Watch his approval and disapproval rating in a second play. While some may sympathize he is the closest to a racist Dictator we've had in a DA game.

When i watched the intro video with Varric telling me "HEY MR DEKAR! you hate this guy" i followed that command ASAP.

But once i had played and finished the game my opinion on him is not that one... Solas practically became Morrigan WITH BRAINS. Most people who had read my posts will know that the only issue I have with Morrigan is she being incredible dumb, but Solas is a clever guy.

Approves of helping people in need. Approves of freeing the mages from the circle. Approves of exiling the Grey Wardens because of all the **** they did. Approves of asking questions. Therefore...dictator? Wat?

He  apparently approves of turning over the surviving knight captain to the men he harmed and mislead for judgment as well if you side with the Templars.

I'm not sure that is entirely fair. Do I think Morrigan makes sone interesting choices? Yes. But there is a huge difference in the two. Morrigan can only guess. Solas knows. It is like comparing some who can read with someone who had never been taught, and then calling the non reader dumb because he couldn't read. Just take Flemmeth for example, Morrigan doesn't even know what she is or what she can do. Silas apparently knows how to kill her without much trouble.

I don't know enough about Solas to call him clever, he knows to much. It is like playing poker against someone dealt the best hand and then saying wow you are good at this. No you just had all the cards.

I know, his post made no sense... what is next? calling Sera an humanitary genious? or calling Varric a good writter?

well i could had agree with you if i didn't see Morrigan being still NAIVE and foolish in DAI like if she had never learned anything... I'm not labeling someone that doesn't know how to read, I'm labeling someone that actually learned to and still drinks the bottle that says "poison, DO NOT DRINK!"

Personally I loved Solas, probably my favorite companion out of all three games. I'm not hopping on the Solas hate train just yet, I mean if he is an evil mastermind he certainly is nothing like one would expect. There's way more to this story then what we seen at the end of the game, all I can concluded from it is that Solas will be involved in the DLC/Next game.

Plot twist when I found out he was the Dread Wolf tbh

Totally made a elf that night to romance him.

I can sum it up in one sentence:

He makes me want to be an elf.

Seriously, there's something about him that I find both calming and irresistible. I love listening to his stories, he comes off as possibly the most intelligent of my companions, and he's a freaking badass (he single-handedly killed a dragon while Blackwall had his hand in his pants, my rogue was laying dead near the dragon, and Vivienne chose to run laps around the place). The man is like silk-encased steel. The videos of him did not do him justice, because I was like "blech!" before I played the game.

The only reason I may not romance him (and may never play an elf, because I know I wouldn't be able to resist) is the fact that I know the romance has a horribly sad ending. I don't like sad.

If you read more into who Solas is and what his true motivations were, you'll realize he is not evil at all.  He rebelled against the elven pantheon because he disliked the way they were abusing their power and the people.  Unfortunately, by banishing them in hopes it would have helped, it made things worse because the people went astray.  There's more to Solas than meets the eye.  Just takes some digging and investigation.

Course then you can argue he turned right around and abused his own power in the game story. Though part of me feels like he doesn't mean to be so deceptive, it just turns out that way for him.

If we're talking about just magic, then Solas is my favorite out of the 3 mages. He makes comments about ancient magic, spirits/demons, and the Fade and I honestly find the topic of magic in the DA universe interesting. In this regard, I find Vivienne to be the most boring out of the 3 mages since I'm not really just convinced of her magical expertise. When it comes to politics, especially politics involving mages, then I like having Vivienne in my party, but I digress.

The only thing I disliked about Solas is how strongly he disapproves of the Wardens. He doesn't care that the Wardens were manipulated by Corypheus to summon and bind demons. Okay fine, I get it, he doesn't want people messing around with spirits in general, no excuses.

However, when he made that comment about how the world doesn't need Gray Wardens anymore and that they're a relic basically, I was just disappointed with Solas. It's been what, 10 years since the last Blight, and he's already quick to dismiss the Wardens? Never mind that it was hundreds of years between the Fourth and the Fifth Blight.

Yeah I remember in Creatwood encountering a woman who talked about joining the Grey Wardens. I said I thought it was a good idea but both Dorian and Solas disapproved I found that odd really. Yes a huge number of wardens are not needed as there is no current blight but surely even killing small groups of darkspawn that attack the surface is still helpful. I'm not entirely sure why he's against people joining the order, Dorian I wondered even more so about, but honestly if it's just because of the  mess with Corypheus and manipulating spirits it seems petty of him.

Grey Wardens are needed for future blights, but they can also help defend people against smaller groups of darkspawn, at the very least they make a noble sacrifice for a greater good. Have they strayed from thier path? Sure but tell me of a group in Thadus that hasn't been host to some kind of corruption, what they should have all been destroyed because they dreamed of sparing future generations from having to deal with the threat of blights?
