That might have killed the fun of the reveal, though. Which is probably why they went with bald hobo as opposed to dreadlocks smirky guy from concept art.

You might be right but all the way I felt like authors were trying to ensure in every step he is not Felassan! No, totally different. Like he was created not to be Solas but the main goal was not to be Felassan.

I really like Solas if I'm going to be honest. At first I was fairly "meh" about him but that Haven segment easily landed him in the role of my male elf Inquisitor's best friend and guide.

After seeing the ending I think it will be very interesting to see what Bioware will do with him.

The only thing I disliked about Solas is how strongly he disapproves of the Wardens. He doesn't care that the Wardens were manipulated by Corypheus to summon and bind demons. Okay fine, I get it, he doesn't want people messing around with spirits in general, no excuses.

I believe the old gods are the ancient elven gods ,after Solas trapped them .

Dragons who are asleep since forever?

Flemeth , an ancient elven god can turn into a dragon.

With the well , Morrigan also learn how to shapeshift.

It's possible they were trapped in their dragon form , and their minds were trapped somewhere else , I guess in the golden city.

Then the blight in the city act like a link , and once they are tainted their soul gets back in their bodies.

My main point is Solas hates the wardens because they are killing those gods he trapped , and I suppose if he chose to do that , and not kill them in the first place there's a reason.

He mentions a couple of times , the wardens have no idea what they're doing .

Also Mythal /Flemeth saved one of those old god soul...

I adore him, he's become my favourite character of the series. I really relate to him and what he represents, we'd get on SO well in reality.

I'm surprised by how many actually like Solas. If I have to listen to anymore of his whinging about about how great the elves use to be, I'm getting my inquisitor to punch him again. It's amazing how someone who is suppose to be so smart and wise of both the world and the fade manages to to screw up at every possible turn.

He sealed away the elven gods and the "forgotten ones" for whatever reason, (I personally doubt that it was for solely noble reasons) and the elves nearly wiped themselves out by the wars it caused. He awakens and tries to use the orb (I'm guessing to free the other gods), but can't, so his brilliant idea is to give the orb to Corypheus, who then uses the orb to punch a hole through reality to try to get the to the black city again. Even after these royal **** ups, he still feels that he's to important to be killed for his actions. "I should pay the price, but the People, they need me.", do the elves really need you Solas, you seem to be the problem.

I think the dialog between Sera and Solas, if Sera romances Lavellan sums up Solas pretty well

Solas: I'm not surprise you were drawn to the inquisitor, Sera.

Sera: Why, you fancy her to?

Solas: I meant that it would seem natural that you would desire another elf.

.

.

.

Sera: My point is is that I'm with her because she's her, not because she's elfy

Solas: Do you dislike your own kind so much

Solas is nothing more than a racist, wrapped in a supremacist, wrapped in a moron.

Yeah I remember in Creatwood encountering a woman who talked about joining the Grey Wardens. I said I thought it was a good idea but both Dorian and Solas disapproved I found that odd really. Yes a huge number of wardens are not needed as there is no current blight but surely even killing small groups of darkspawn that attack the surface is still helpful. I'm not entirely sure why he's against people joining the order, Dorian I wondered even more so about, but honestly if it's just because of the  mess with Corypheus and manipulating spirits it seems petty of him.

Grey Wardens are needed for future blights, but they can also help defend people against smaller groups of darkspawn, at the very least they make a noble sacrifice for a greater good. Have they strayed from thier path? Sure but tell me of a group in Thadus that hasn't been host to some kind of corruption, what they should have all been destroyed because they dreamed of sparing future generations from having to deal with the threat of blights?

As to the woman, sending her to the Grey Wardens at that point seems like madness to me too, because we know something is up with them and they've all disappeared and they're hunting one of their own. I always tell her no so far. For her own safety.

As to his disapproval of keeping them - It's fairly obvious Solas hates the Wardens because they willingly (yes, they were tricked, but they were not forced to this course of action) turned spirits into demons by binding them and bringing them into this world, leading to the murder of lots of spirits/demons. Solas loves spirits(/demons) and hates when people mess with them. That's like his whole deal. (I mean, he has other deals, but nothing greater than that - he also loves knowledge, enjoys helping people, especially elves, etc. But spirits come first.)

Solas blames the Wardens for their actions and also hates that they consider the spirits demons and don't think of the evil in THAT part of their actions.

Solas has also likely learned a little bit about "The ends justify the means" in his own life and actions and seems legitimately skeptical about that in terms of the Wardens. It's not about killing the Old Gods (he even says he hopes killing the last of them truly does end the Blight). It's mostly about what they did to spirits and, because of that and the Wardens' history, which I'm sure he's read up on/seen in the Fade/seen while he slept/whatever, and the many, many dark Warden choices where the ends justified the means (read The Last Flight, yeesh), he's eager to see them made unnecessary. I don't think he misunderstands their necessity. But exile doesn't mean the end of the order.

Woah. I would really like to know where this outpouring of 'Oh my god Solas I get your benevolent and amazing kind shining soul of beneficence!' is coming from. We really, really don't know anything about him. We only have that really ambiguous ending where he may or may not have killed Flemeth/Mithal. He is the god of trickery after all. And he might see the ancient elves as his people but he's downright bewildered when you talk like the current elves are his people too. So redemption quest? Maybe? Taking the god of trickery at his word seems... not smart. But assuming he is seeking redemption, for what exactly? And more specifically who is he seeking to redeem himself for?

He's an interesting character in my mind, definitely doesn't mean he's a GOOD one though.

Solas is the stereotypical gamer archetype. Lost in a fantasyland (fade) and is very clingy and lonely, I mean you get approval by just talking to him.

Try to play as a proSlavery"Chantry" Inquisitor and come here again to tell how easy is to get approval with him xD

Solas is along with Dorian my favorite companion of the game, both of them are on par at the Top of my companions list. Althought for obvious spoiler reasons Solas is (or will be in future games) more insteresting.

But considering my first main playthrought was as a Human male mage Inquisitor with profreedom views and a very open mind on the Fade and spirits, always willing to learn new things, Solas, Dorian and me got along very well, we are buddies :D Also, as other users has mentioned, Solas and Dorian banters on magic and how differently do they use it are very interesting for those interested in the magic and fade aspects of the DA lore. And with Cole as the fourth memeber of our party since I became a Knight Enchanter (so I didn´t need a warrior tank anymore) we have a lot of fun together and the banters are very interesting between them.

He's my least favorite, but having done his companion quest I started to like him a bit more. He's far too serious for me. He's very interesting though.

I like how calm and collected he is, it makes for a nice contrast to all of the screwed up mages we've met so far: Jowan, Anders, Merrill, etc. Actually I rather like all of the mage companions in Inquisition; none of them are blood mages and they all seem to have their goals squarely in-check. Solas just has very calm and relaxing demeanor about him, he would make for an excellent therapist imho.

On my first play through I didn't think very highly of him. His know-it-all attitude kinda grated me. But we shared a lot of the same views when it came to blood magic, so that was a plus for him. But his hypocrisy on some things annoyed me too. And then the jerk

Spoiler

On my 2nd play through I had romanced him. I had decided towards the beginning of my first run that I was, so I was determined to see it out. And I admit, I had a huge chip on my shoulder. But as it progressed, my heart warmed up to him. His know-it-all attitude still annoyed me, but I got to see another side to him that I couldn't playing as a human.

Spoiler
. If it wasn't for the ending, I would say Cullen was going to have some competition when it came to romances.

Overall, I like him. I liked having someone around in my group that knew as much as he did. I liked roaming around doing quests and hearing the lore behind it (I'm a lore junky when it comes to games I play). Now if he could tone down the know-it-all attitude, we would probably be the best of friends. As it stands: we're good friends who shares a lot of the same views on magic. It's nice having someone around that feels the way I do
