He must be one of the most responsible Mages I've met so far (apart from Wynne and Morrigan). I respect people who have respect for their culture strangely enough, I dislike my Nigerian heritage. Other than that, I don't have muich to say.

In the words of a Skrit "Skrit kill it!"... I hope I get to face him down in the next version, seriously. I don't like that char at all "my people blah blah... my people blah blah"... gosh, stay in Skyhold till your number is called. This is how I treat him and Viv.

Speaking of Solas, after the endgame, there's this elf in Val Royeaux that says a woman named "Mythal" appears in his dreams.
Solas or Flemeth is communicating with the elves? For what reason?

That's interesting. I was wondering if there were other signs of the "waking up," other than our temple quests. Makes me want to look at the pantheon again and figure out who's next.

Solas is probably one of the best characters that Bioware has produced to date.  He and Mordin Solus (name similarity coincidence? Hmmm...) are easily 2 of my top 3 favorite characters.

And Loghain, agreed.

The more I learn the more it makes sense as to why he is so unassuming and hidden. You can't look at him and see a dread wolf, only solas. He is intriguing to say the least. Amazing character.

Did anyone else find his "heady blend of power, intrigue, danger and sex" comment about The Game and the Orlesian Court...kinda...OOC?

He let slip a bit of his original identity, so your question is kind of ironic.

What interesting is how he and Sera are alike. They seem total opposite but even though she is out for herself and to get money, she also has viewpoints that are similar to his. Her stance on nobility reminds me of him. He doesn't like people who abuse power. Also, she doesn't seem to care about being an elf. She cares about people. She tries to help the little guy. That's who she looks out for. He seems to be the same way. She may not 'approve' when you do good deeds like him but her red jenny was her way of trying to help people just like he has his way. And she's not an elf elitist. Nor is he. He might come off that way at times, but really he is focused on helping other, giving them their freedom, that sort of stuff which she seems to also feel that way though she comes off as self serving at times. They really aren't different at all despite seeming very different. They seem to have similar values and attitudes on things which make it really interesting.

He definitely seems like an arch villain type. Any means to an end type person, and his end I believe from his convos is a spirit and demon infested world.

In his mind this would be good, but reality would be very bad.

Arch villains generally don't approve of small acts of kindness and giving up power rather than forcing your will on others.

I believe his argument would be that the Veil is doing more harm than good, and when you see things like the Blights and the Breach threaten the entire world, it's hard to argue otherwise.

Abominations running around and spirits taking control of people seem worse.

I hope they aren't leading us to a Mass Effect type ending of hybrid organic / machine but with people/spirits.

Demons try to possess people because they want to see the material world through their eyes. If the two are merged there's no incentive. In the same way, madmen like Corypheus and the Venatori come close to wrecking the world because they're trying to manipulate a scarce resource. Give that resource away to everyone for free and their ambition becomes meaningless. Certainly there will be unforeseen consequences (it's Solas, after all), and a new set of problems, but his plan- if tearing down the Veil really IS his plan- isn't entirely nutty. Furthermore, judging from hints by Sandal, Flemeth and Morrigan, it's a change that may be happening anyway, so Solas may just see it as hastening the inevitable and shaping the outcome to help the elves.

Well, in my first evening of gameplay, I told a friend that I didn't trust him because I was getting an Anders vibe--not that I thought he was going to blow anything up, just hiding somthing, possibly lying and with his own agenda. I wasn't entirely wrong.

My inquisitor started taking what he said with a grain of salt when he appeared to find the idea of bringing down the veil interesting.

As to the ending, it remains to be seen who is in control and what they plan but I trust Solas about as much as I trust Flemeth--not much. I have no faith that what they want is something that would be widely considered positive.

Do I like Fen'Harel? Umm, yeah! I'm psyched that they went this route. Totally did not see it coming. But I didn't use Cole much in my first playthrough...

I was a bit sceptical about him in my first playthrough (before I found out who he really was) and he wasn't at all like I'd expected him to be. But I've warmed up to him, I think he's a really interesting character now. His romance arc is really good, too. At least until he made me cry  when he ditched my inquisitor :(

I don't think he'll ever be the main villain, but I think it's a safe bet we'll see more of him. I quite like the whole Fen'Harel thing.

Solas is kind of meh. I would punch him if I could muster up the desire to ****** him off enough, but that would require me to actually use him as a companion, and there is only room enough for one smug mage in my party. Vivienne fills that role nicely.

I honestly disliked him so I never had him in my party and barely spoke to him. Imagine my surprise when I saw the ending  -_-

Like "Wait why is he picking up the destroyed orb? I knew he was fishy and could not be trusted!"

And then "...oh... still don't like him  -_-"

I'm near the end of a play through where I actually befriended Solas (I punched him in my last play through). I admit, I like him. He has his flaws and I don't regret punching him but I liked his insight into the fade. I ended up agreeing with him about Cole  and not just to get approval points. On one hand I like Varric's idea of making him more human but does the world need one more vengeful human in it? I also liked his personal quest. Kirkwall mages proving once again why they needed to be put down. I let Solas do it.

He is kind of "meh" to me. He can be incredibly interesting and great when it comes to past events and the Fade, but everytime he opens his mouth about the present situation of the world, I want to punch him a little. Still, he isn't a Fenris (who is one of the main reasons for why I made only one Hawke in DAII).

Solas has a lot of knowledge and powers, but he strikes me as a deluded Revolutionary : instead of having a firm idea of the world he wants to create, he simply wish to tear down the actual. And we have seen how it ended the first time he did it : the fall of Arlathann and the rise of another tyrannical Empire in its place. Plus, he seems stupid some times. Seriously, who in their right mind who give power to something like Corypheus ?

And I don't believe that tearing down the Veil is a good thing. It has been created for a reason : when the Magister went into the Black City, they unleashed the Blight upon the world through the tear they had done into the Veil. Whatever atrocities is still trapped into the Fade would probably be unleashed in full force if the Veil disappear. And I don't think that destroying the Veil will automatically grant magic to everyone; it would more probably mesh Thedas and the Fade, changing the very laws of reality for most of Thedas inhabitants, driving a lot of them crazy or to their death, when spirits and demons will begin to manifest with violence because some mortal simply didn't know how to react to them.

I started off being intrigued by him, but the more I saw of his personality, the more his prejudice and hypocricy started to overwhelm his positive qualities. Complex character, but not one I'm eager to see more of. I hope Flemeth/Mythal is in the driver's seat when we see him next.
