Hi gang,

I recently picked up the whole series and am having a ball playing Dragon Age: Origins. I am confused about the keep and how to use it when I finish the game and move on to the others.

I'm only about 15-20 hours into Dragon Age: Origins and when I go to keep, the only thing I see is a default world state.

I am fully synced and logged in across origin.

Do you not import a world state into keep from Dragon Age: Origins until you have beaten the game? Am I not supposed to see my own personal world state until a game is over? All I see is the default world state

The Keep will never upload story data from DA:O and DA 2 (Only DA:I)

At best you can sync the appearance and name of your Warden/Hawke as long as you synced your Origin account. You'll have to manually pick all your choices so best to wait till you beat the game to do that.

Sorry for being confused again - I thought the whole point of the keep was to import decisions from DA:0 and DA 2 that would affect DA:I?

If choices in those games don't affect anything, then what's the point of the keep?

So if I playthrough DA:0, I can't use having done that at all for the keep?

I could have sworn I've read tons of threads of people mentioning how their characters from DA:0 show up as world states?

Someone in this thread said:

Your characters get uploaded to the Keep instead. In the tapestry you have the option to select your heroes (Warden and Hawke). Uncheck the box that says "Show Default Heroes" and you'll see your custom characters. Be warned though, it takes time for them to be uploaded to the Keep so you might not see them for several hours.

Also make sure your in-game settings allow for your profile data to be uploaded to the DA servers where they can be moved into the Keep.

I don't see any of my warden heroes there. And I thought based on this that selecting those heroes would actually do something?

Your DAO and DA2 characters should show in the Keep, as well as a record of any achievements or other items you unlock.  If you don't see them, it could be for a few reasons, the most likely of which would be a bad connection to Orgin while you are playing.  I would confirm that:

  • You have enabled the in-game options to upload data from DAO
  • You are signed into your Origin account when playing, using the interface provided in-game
  • You are not using the debug console, such as for mods or cheats on PC; this will block uploading of data from the game.
  • Your PC / console is connected to the internet

Unfortunately, having the Keep directly read your play data as you complete DAO would require patching that game, and would require players to still have their save games.  Given the time that has elapsed since DAO was first released, this is not always true, so that approach would not work for those players.  It also would not allow you to select choices in the Keep unless you purchased the DLC and completed those plots, whereas the Keep lets you import plots for this content into DAI even if you have not purchased it.

There are a few other reasons why the Keep was designed in the current manner, but in the end it was felt to be a better experience for the average player than the alternatives provided.

Also, the first world state you create in the Keep is automatically named "Default World State" and will remain so until you rename it, even if you customize your Warden and choices. (Took me a few weeks to figure that one out myself.)

If you're playing on PC:

-complete DA:O (do not erase the save files)

-start DA2 and import your save from Da:O without the Keep (just like in Mass Effect, if you played it)

-complete DA2 (do not erase the save files)

-go to the Keep and sync your Heroes (if they not show up, try this: Syncing Previous Games with the Keep)

-go to sjaakiejj's Save Game Tool (it will analyse your save files and tell some of your choices)

-back in the Keep, place your choices manually (if didn't buy DLCs, pick the ones you want)

-export you World State

-play DA Inquisition on whatever platform you want

It may feel useless to play these games because of the Keep, but picking choices there is nothing like in game.
