Does any race or class make more sense story wise?

I haven't gotten to play much the last 7 - 10 days and I'm feeling a little disconnected from my character, I haven't even left Haven so I'm not that far in so I'm going to roll a new character. What I'm curious about is if the people who've finished the game or have progressed far feel as if any race or class fits the story particularly well.

Obviously I don't want any spoilers or reasons why you feel if one does.

Elf would probably make you the most connected to the story, but it doesn't make more sense to be one than a Human, Qunari, or Dwarf.

I hear Elf mage has the most relevance story wise, extra points for being female who romances Solas.

Any of the races can work, just depends on how you play them and a bit of headcannon.

I had a good time playing as an elven mage... my Inquisitor's race and class were both discussed and explored at various points in the story, so I was pretty satisfied with that setup.  I think human is also probably a good choice since the game was originally planned for a human-only PC, but regardless I'd still say that mage is the best class to choose.  Non-mages don't seem to fit in with the arcane aspects of the setting IMO... what do warriors and rogues know about spirits and the Fade?

Agree with elf mage. Both race and class are getting a lot of comment and you can go a lot of ways with both in terms of role playing that fits the lore and world.

Thanks for the replies every one, my favourite Origins character was a Dalish Elf and I loved the way it connected into DA2. I never heard that Inquisition was originally planned to be Humans only.

I think human Mage is also a good choice, since you'd be a circle Mage which kind of dumps you directly into some of the plot points - just different ones from elves.

Trying out an elf Mage now. Glad to see there's some noticeable differences.

I'm going to invest time in the game as an archer, and find out.  I promised myself that i'd have to pick a non-human character for the role. Maybe Qunari just to play different.

In regards to race, I noticed being human opened some political doors due to the character having a noble background in regards to some choices. Also being a mage opened some choices. I admit I picked human so I could get the extra ability point.  It was a mercenary decision on my part.

Has anyone played dwarf yet and noticed any choices pro or con?

Qunari gets some really fun commentary made toward them - I've only just started after finding a face I like (thanks @N1mh :D) but already there's some cool comments from Varric and even my character about her race, such as when the opening intro breach portion is about to conclude and you're being talked about as the Herald.

Also - Sera romance as a Qunari xD

Female human warrior. You're there as a Chantry bodyguard, then after the accident, you continue to fulfill your purpose, serving the Divine and stopping the war. Being female makes you a more acceptable candidate for authority in a Chantry institution and Herald.
