So it seems like all the Red Lyrium for Varric's quest is in some dwarven cave or something that I can't get into.
Do I need to do something to get through the door?
Or do I need to wait till a certain point in the story or something?

Apparently there's some quest that opens it, either Red Templar or Red Waters (different sources), but I beat the game and never once got that quest to trigger so I have no idea how to get in there either
You know, I finished this quest, but I don't think I ever had to go through that door to do it. Now that I think about it, I wonder if there are more than 12 red lyrium veins, because I don't remember going back to storm coast at all. I had 8/12, and I couldn't figure out how to navigate the storm coast. But I started doing other quests in the western approach and exalted plains, and I destroyed 4 more red lyrium veins that I happened to run across to complete the quest. I don't know. I'll have to think about this...

There are, because I completed the quest Seeing Red without ever going into that part of Storm Coast

Well, I'm glad you confirmed so I know I'm not crazy. After a while, the hours spent playing this game start to blur together...
It's a Quest for Iron Bull, talk to your companions a lot while in Skyhold.
Wroten by Qwii: This door will get opened later for you after you've done some other war table quests and some zone quests elsewhere. Don't sweat it for now. Your OCD to complete the zone will happen my young padawan ...trust in the force. also there's already a thread posted here about this. Not sure of the title but if you peruse these forums you'll find ithttp://forum.bioware...ost-red-lyrium/
