Is anyone else disappointed with the variations in the armor? Don't get me wrong I LOVE the game, the crafting, and the customization, thought I feel the variation to the armor is very lacking, at least for the Qunari, as I've only had three different variations of armor. I compiled a list of what could be added by patches and/or free DLC.

  • Qunari-restricted heavy armors (anything with the large pauldrons or Qunari-themed armor like in DA2, with of course the customization)
  • Qunari helmets! Iron Bull gets an awesome helmet, but our Qunari Inquisitor doesn't? (the face-paint is kind of cool, but some of make you look like a drag queen or a mime)
  • Heavier armors in general (I really loved the Juggernaut armor from Origins and the ones like it, i.e. Cailain's armor, Dragonbone armor)

Feel free to post any other suggestions. :D

I feel like Heavy Armor is all the same and most of it is rather ugly. I was hoping for more "fantasy" style armors at higher levels like the Warden armor or the Dragon Preorder armor. More like that, same with weapons. But all the craftable stuff looks the same, just gets a higher "tier" as you move up which ends up making your character look the same.

I was very disappointed with most of the armor, especially the stuff for Warriors. It seems that the armor from the older games had a lot more variance to the way it looked.  You would THINK that they could have done some awesome stuff here.  And what is up with the horn thing on the heavy armor?  The only armor I really care for is the rouge stuff.   There is some great looking armor there.

Yep, little choices, not enough schematics for some stuff we see in game.

The older games did not really have any more variance in the way armor looked. Origins only had, what, nine total?

It would have been nice to have a bit more "heavy" armor or qunari styled armor, but the game was intended to have character based armor styles. Could have been done better, but they tried something new-ish and will learn from for the next game.

EDIT: Also, If it's in the game it would have been nice to be able to craft them in a way similar to Templar and Warden where they don't have upgrade slots, but more mat are used. Maybe they can add it in? I dunno.

You can un-restrict crafted armour using Silverite, I believe but yes, the general range of armour is limited to half a dozen models at most. I'm particularly disappointed with the lack of full plate armours, the best I've seen being the Warden Heavy armour but that is only mid-end armour and by the time you find Templar Commander armour (assuming you want to look like a Templar Commander which isn't very immersive) pretty much anything you craft will have a higher armour value.

What is most dissapointing is that Bioware led us to believe that if you liked the look of a particular piece of armor then you could simply use better materials and make it as viable. Didn't happen. So in the end the player is rather limited in what to choose from, especially if the player also wants to put on gloves and boots.

What variation that is in the game is more or less ignored because of this, as most players will be using T3 sturdy battle[something] armor. Dissapointing, yes.

indeed, separation of item design shape is a big issue. There's plenty of decent weapon designs which will never get a look in because by the time you get them they're obsolete.

Being able to customize armour designs by adding arms and legs only works if you can actually acquire those schematics. RNG just makes for frustration.

RNG is fine until late game.  It would be good to have a schematic shop for EVERY design.  Or, if this sounds boring, we needed to have the ability to destroy our gear for schematics and parts.  Make our destroy inventory button worth something.  It would also allow players to make the decision on keeping a great unique weapon, or risk re-engineering it to potentially make a better one with the same look we want.

I like both these ideas.  I really hope the people at Bioware check these things.

Exactly, there should be a schematic for every weapon and armor in the game. I don't see why this wouldn't work. Sure not everything will have upgrade slots, that's fine. But if I can buy a "Refined Greatsword", I want to find the schematic so that I can use that awesome looking sword but with good stats.
