The only tier 3 helmet schematics for mages that I found was the ugly seers cowl that prompted me to hide helmets and the useless Inquisitor hat. -.-

Aight, thanks for the heads up.

Now that I have names for the item, it makes it that much easier to track down =)

There is an orlesian mage hat, t3, that I got as a random chest loot from Cradle of Sulevin. No superior version yet, but I did get the superior warrior one from there.

Battlemage cowl.  As far as I know, you can use the "chest scumming" method at any Tier 2 chest and if you're patient, you should get the schematic.  I spent almost three hours yesterday scumming the chest in the Redcliffe Chantry and I finally got it.   You could also try the two chests near the broken bridge in The Hinterlands or the chest in the south of The Fallow Mire next to the tower / windmill.  I'm sure others will chime in with their favorite Tier 2 looting spots.  Between scumming for the cowl schematics and the Inquisitor's Helm schematics, I'm done saving and reloading for a loooong time.

Just curious - precisely how do you know which tier a chest is? Is it based on area level?

Never been able to figure it out with any consistency.  Usually I'll save before approaching a chest, save and reload until I get a schematic, and that schematic will indicate the chest's tier.  I was in a room in Redcliffe Castle last night that had one chest giving Tier 2 loot and another giving Tier 1.  If there's method to the madness, I don't know what it is.

Still Ruins in Westren Approch has mostly tier 2 with the occasional tier 3 schematic. Cradel of Sulevin has been purely tier 3 (I have gotten more than a few superior/masterwork armor and weapon schematics). I think some chests will adjust to level, but there seem to be specific areas for certain tiers, which the community is figuring out.
