Could someone be nice enough to answer this!  :)

Yeah TXAstarte is right. Best way to upgrade Thrones is to do the corresponding material gathering missions. I believe it goes like this:

Inquisition Throne: Find the items during the 'gather coin' war table mission.

Andrastian Chantry throne: Emprise du Lyon war table mission/gather resources.

Feralden throne: Crestwood resources.

Chasind throne: Fallow Mire resources mission.

Qunari Throne: Hissing Wastes

Mage Throne: Hitherlands Resources

Orlais throne: Emprise du lyon resources

I can't tell what the hell that is...  could you have picked a bigger picture with better resolution?

Its the Iron Throne, forged from the swords of Aegon the Conqueror's vanquished enemies, melted in the fire of Balerion the Dread :D

Speaking of thrones, I wish the sitting animation didn't look so weird.

I hate how my female Inquisitor sits like a dude with her legs like 10,000 feet apart. Not cute.

And if you ever trip on the way up the stairs...who is next in line of succession?

Seriously, that picture may fit the story better, but looks godawful.

I used the default Inquisition Throne up until I killed my first dragon, then I switched to the Dragon Maw Throne.

I believe the rest of Skyhold is: Free Marcher theme, upgraded four-poster Free Marcher bed, Serault glass (a gift from my Huntress) and the rest is all Inquisition (banners, drapes, etc.).

As if those default daggers&spikes had no resemblance, at all....

I like it, though. The only one that makes sense to me. Inquisition is supposed to be the 'neutral' side, on it's own.

I know, right? The other one that makes sense in this respect is the Dragon Maw Throne, which I switched to as soon as I got to Skyhold, but after playing through a couple of judgments and wincing every time my Inquisitor used the frakking teeth as armrests, I switched back to the Inquisition model. By that point I actually had both upgrades, and I realized I liked the look of it a lot better, anyway.

But yeah, I honestly kind of wish they'd put the resources they devoted to Skyhold customization somewhere else, because I can't fathom why in the hell I would use anything other than Inquisition banners, heraldry, etc. The Inquisition is the organization I both lead and represent, so why would I have a banner with anything other than the Inquisition crest on it? Like you said, the whole point is that the Inquisition is its own entity, not beholden to anyone or anything else.

The only exception is the bed, since 1) there is no "Inquisition" bed and 2) that actually would be a matter of personal taste. But that bring up the other issue of what reason do I ever have to go up to my quarters there is literally nothing of import whatsoever up there once I've grabbed the Skyhold upgrade recipes.

Actually I adore the opportunity to tweak things about Skyhold.  In my opinion, the little details can be used to say things about your Quizzie.

For example, my throne is the Flaming Andraste with both accessories.  My drapes are Orlesian to show her ties and favor to the Orlesian Empress.  Her windows are Serrault Glass to show the honor shown by the Huntress of Serrault (My Last Court playthrough!).  My heraldry is Inquisition, but my banners show the Circle of Magi, to represent my mage's origins as a Circle Mage.  The Decor of the Great Hall is currently the imposing Andrastan golden-bronze statuary to match my throne, but I might experiment with that in the future.

In the end, I feel like you can show a lot of personal character traits through the customization details.

I am loving the Andrastian Chantry throne, but I admit to a part of my soul being crushed by the lack of a Dalish Throne option :(

I do like the bit about the glass, that's a nice touch. And I get where you're coming from about wanting to express your character, definitely. But for me personally, from a roleplaying perspective, it just seems... I dunno, off somehow. But hey, that's the nice thing, innit? My game, my choice; your game, your choice.

See I love that too. Me personally I just decked everything out in Ferelden style to show off my big respect for Lothering. But I do like the look of each different style, on my second playthrough I'm planning to make Skyhold into a Qunari palace.

Regarding the orlesian throne, has anyone noticed there's a figure that looks suspiciously like elven depictions of mythal?

I really like the Orlesian throne tbh. The picture of the Andrastian one looks cool but it looks nothing like it in person. Maybe I have to unlock the "accessories"? But if so I have no idea where to go to do such a thing.

I don't know about thrones but the best bed is the Free Marches II.

God it looks so comfy.  Looks good for sex too.  A shame Cassandra prefers it outdoors style though.

I went with the Dragon Maw version this time, as the Inquisitor throne had spikes at eye level for my Dwarf. While he is likely coordinated enough to avoid injury, I keep wincing at the thought of it (am a bit of a klutz, and preventing such accidents beforehand is second nature to me).

I prefer the Inquisition Throne (though I did try Dragon Maw for a while) but none of my options so far has me really amazed. My current upgrade has what I think is supposed to a brazier next to it but I keep looking at it and thinking, "cool rubbish bin." That said, I only have four unlocked so I am interested to see what else there is.

I wish they had a bones and skulls throne. Since they don't have that, I have to settle for the dragon's skull.

I honestly don't like any of them all that much, but if I had to choose one, I would pick the Andrastian one.
