I Looked upon the throne of the Inquisition, and it was empty.

I like the fully upgraded Enchanter Throne--the serpentine like dragons on it are a nice touch.

I like the Fereldan throne but will full upgrades nothing beats judging people from the Chasind.

Doubly so with the way you slouch in it like Conan.

Has anyone investigated the throne effects? I thought it was purely cosmetic, but a few minutes ago Vivienne commented my throne (andrastian) and said it looked very good and fitting. Are there other effects for the other thrones?

Count me as someone who is also unimpressed with the thrones.  The problem that I have is that the only ones that really 'fit' with a qunari or dwarf inquisitor are the Inquisition and Dragon Maw thrones.  Otherwise, it's kind of weird for my big qunari mercenary to be sitting on a mage throne, even if he did ally with the mages.  I like the look of the Ferelden one (prior to the upgrades), but again, they aren't Ferelden, so it just seems off.  It's not the end of the world, but I was pretty much just 'meh' on the thrones in general.  Also, wish there could be a dwarf throne.  That would have been great for my Carta dwarf, even if he was a surfacer.

The sitting animation depends on which throne you use.

Personally, I think the Circle throne looks awesome, but only when fully upgraded. Just by itself, it's crap.

The Inquisition throne is the best all-rounder, I think. I don't like the texture of the backrest on the Dragonmaw Throne.

It depends on the Inquisitor but current dalish mage who has kept the Inquisition throne mostly because the others don't really fit. Banner and windows are both dalish as a sly way to remind people of her origins, Andrastian decor because as ugh as the Herald of Andraste thing is it is the means she using to fight Cory, mage curtains as a nod to the alliance and Free Marches 2 bed because if you open the windows and close the bed's curtains it's almost like sleeping in a tent.

My Dalish elf mage is a boss in sitting upon her enchanter throne. I also enjoyed the Dragon Maw Throne.

 

My bf used the Ferelden Throne, but he complained that his qunari gets beer belly effect sitting on it.

Where do you get the upgrades?

Resource gathering missions. Each has a chance to return one of the two upgrades for a given throne in addition to the resources.

Inquisitor throne upgrades come from "Gather Coin".
Qunari Bench upgrades come from Hissing Wastes Resources.
Orlesian throne upgrades come from the Exalted Plains, Emerald Graves, and Emprise du Lion Resources missions, as do Andrastian throne upgrades.
Chasind throne upgrades come from Fallow Mire Resources.
Enchanter's Seat upgrades come from the Hinterlands.
Ferelden throne upgrades come from Crestwood.

I use the Dragon Maw throne, but ONLY after a dragon has been defeated.

I prefer the Chasind Throne. It gives my judgment scenes a savage quality.

I choose the Orlesian throne every time. It's just so elegant, especially with accessories.

I really like the Ferelden one, although I think none of my future Inquisitors are going to be using it.

I love the mage throne (fully upgraded, you need to farm resources in the Hinterlands). You get it from Vivienne after completing her personal quest. I don't know why but I always have to get it first before judging anyone xD. 

Pity we can't sit on it whenever we DESIRE to, BIOWARE.

I always send Josephine for the war table resources mission for the accessories, but sometimes other advisors yield them too.

Can't say I'm really taken with any of them, so I stuck to the basic Inquisition one. It looks rather flimsy and underwhelming and the swords are pretty silly IMO, but thematically it was one of the only two choices that fit my canon Inquisitor -- the one being the Andrastian throne, and I noped right out of that after taking one good look at it. Sitting right under the image of a person dying in slow agony is not my idea of a good time.
