I found jar of bees very helpful when I used it. When I fought the 3 Wyvrens  in Crestwood, I used jar of bees causing the Wyvrens to go in a frenzy making it a lot easier to kill them. I used the jar on one of dragons one time and it drove the dragon crazy. The dragon was stil hard to beat even with the bee's.

 

Haven't tried the tears of dead

Pitch Grenade is amazing. I always toss one at giants, or at dragons when they are doing any AoE attack. Anything sitting in that pitch will deal only 1 damage to your party most of the time on NM.

Take all three. Pitch universal and powerful AoE/CC, Bees for bosses and other single target threats, and Tears for fast attacking archer for example. To upgrade them all will take some time but the stuff needed comes from exploration/questing.
