Bioware's Canadian roots showing :D

Its quite realistic for bears though (not the hyper-aggressive AI); thick and tough hide with thick fat padding, a mountain of muscles stronger than 5 men combined, claws as long as human hands, and speed freaks who can reach in excess of 60km/h (or 37.5mph).

Ouch. Remind me to bring a fifty cal if I ever go hiking in Canada.

I had a bear completely ignore my party when it was within 5 feet of us.

... Of course it was in hot pursuit of a ram.

Seriously!

And whatever happened to "you can hunt bears out of an area?" If I thought I could eliminate these scourges with an extended hunting campaign, I'd do it, because god damn are they ever frustrating to encounter.

I thought it recalled someone saying you could exterminate. Didn't see that unless I needed to kill some astronomical number of them.

I absolutely love the look of the Orlesian Great Bear. Reminds me of this photo that reveals what lurks beneath that fur.

Sadly, the Great Bear is so large that the its swipes fail to hit my characters. Only their stomp does any damage.

Additionally, the hides of both types of bear make for the best coats.

The bears in this game are awesome! I had one battle with two knight templars and two templar archers.. Out of the woods comes a bear. Lo and behold no more knight templars. My party took out the archers and bear. That was a satisfying encounter.

Watching wolves attacking the enemy is also fun! My party simply has to do clean up!

LOL! I noticed this as well.

At one point as I stopped to fight a relentless bear... I ended up fighting around 7-8 of them. + a few canines. It was hilarious. I felt like I had entered an epic survival mode of me vs the horde. xD

I just stick on a trainer now, the AI cheats so much, so why shouldn't I to even things up?

My Assassin Inquisitor loves the bears in this game. She has been making coats out of them form about 8th level. And yes you can hunt them to near extinction, damn it.

Cheats? Are you absolutely positively sure, you ****** cheater scum?

Yeah. Cooling down, there's this small doubt at the back of my mind - do you even use your brain while playing?

A game like DAI, when something doesn't work, it means thoroughly rethinking it usually solves the problem, as long as it's not a bug.

Well, at least it's obvious how your brain works - or, better said, how it doesn't.

My brain works perfectly fine thanks. I feel entitled to do what I like, especially when MOBs spawn right on top of me while I'm already in the middle of fighting a MOB!!! It's MMO problems in a single play RPG. So yes I have no problems at all using a trainer to even it up when crap like that happens. The combat is actually pretty decent when those spawning bugs don't happen, aside from abilities not firing when you're a melee character.

I'd rather fight Bears than Druffalo.

It's the Skyrim influence shining through.

The skyrim bears couldn't swim.

Worse if you're near a spawn point or there are wolves in the area. I've attacked a group of bandits and gotten attacked by wolves mid battle and then a bear.

Haha, I had a similar ordeal with a great bear then two standard bears with bandits thrown in at the end needless to say it didn't go so well for my poor Quizy.

I see. Being a coward is your national sport then.

Not everyone plays this game the same way. If someone wants to use cheats, then they're within their right to do so. I really don't see why it should bother you so much how someone you've never met should choose to play their game.

So if we could get back on topic - I agree, but the same could be said of wolves and hyenas too. The problem is, is they're close enough to spawn in, they're close enough to spot you. I have been incredibly grateful that my first Inquisitor is a Rogue. Stealthing through the Hinterlands and Emerald Graves has been a godsend.

Has anybody else noticed that bears seem to be the most determined enemies in this game?  It's to the point that I wonder if somebody at Bioware had a bad experience with bears or something.  Humanoid enemies don't general engage unless I get within a certain radius or attack them first.  On the other hand bears seem to be hunting me, from the top of the bandit castle in the Hinterlands I watched one come over a hill and head towards the castle entrance to get at me.

This isn't really meant as a complaint more an observation.

Don't ****** a bear off - protip.

One of the developers was almost attacked by a bear a few years ago while cycling. So maybe thats why bears are relentless.

I wouldn't mind bears if it wasn't for the ridiculous 360° AoE and the near-inability to get out of its way (same goes for bruiser type enemies). It's illogical to have characters who were nowhere near the point of impact lose most of their health in one fell swoop. Even if I immediately tell any melee characters to leg it when I see the bear rear up, they never get out of the way fast enough. As much as I enjoy the game story-wise, the combat is pretty bad and the tactical camera could use a complete overhaul IMNSHO.

I wish Bioware's ability to design combat mechanics had improved along with their writing, but BG2 still trumps everything else by a mile in that regard despite AD&D being a pretty crappy system.

I had a bear run from me right after recruiting Iron Bull. He literally ran away from me.
